Dude you saved about 15 years of memories for me and my family. The piece I missed myself in this WD My Cloud madness is that this is a UNIX drive (Would have never occurred to me). The fact that you supplied an easy solution to that issue, on top of super clear instructions... forever grateful. Best of luck in everything you do. Signing up for your channel!
Hi Thanky you for all the steps, but the file its not like pictures and video file that i put before ? how to retrieve the file after opening with the paragon software please help
You are my patron saint! I can't thank you enough for saving years of my children's photos and our family memories. This drive has been hiding in my basement for years because I couldn't save it, but I wouldn't part with it. The hours you spent making this video literally changed my life. Thank you.
This has to be one of the best Instructional RUclips Videos I have ever seen. I followed the instructions to the letter and saved years of data. Thank you for such well explained concise instructions.
Thank you so much for this easy, step-by-step approach to divorcing yourself from WD's Network Attached Storage system forever! That proprietary piece of crap has been problematic pretty much since year 2 I owned it. I will never use one of thier products again. I don't know how many countless hours of research you must've put into being able to map out and find this work around, but there's a special place for you! You are a saint! All my data files transfered sucessfully. Thanks again!
You sir are a complete life saver! I can’t thank you enough for putting this content out. I followed this step by step and was able to save 15 years worth of family memories :-). I will add that I am operating on a MacBook Pro so I downloaded the Paragon program that is compatible with a MacBook. I will also add since I am utilizing a laptop, I needed a SATA to USB adapter. If you go this route, ensure that you get the adapter that has a power cord. You will need that added power to actually power the hard drive. Thank you again man!
I ended up dropping my WD My Cloud network drive and something broke. However, followed your video, hooked up the hard drive to my PC and with the paragon software, boom, was able to transfer the data. Ten years of priceless memories with my family saved. TY!!!
Mr. Nikunj, thanks to your video I saved the data trapped in this WD MyCloud... there are no words to thank you for the information you make in such an educational and easy-to-understand way. Thank you very much.
I love you man. I've been dealing with my bricked mycloud for over a week. All I need was your advice in getting that paragon reader. Thank you!!! you saved all my files!
Thank you … you saved me countless hours of research in trying to figure this out. I had the flashing red light due to a failed firmware update. For those who followed this tutorial and was unable to mount the drive, I found that it took a few attempts by either unplugging the usb or disconnecting and reconnecting the power. Worked a treat and saved 30 years of memories… thanks again
wow - you saved my day. After my wd live crashed i had no chance to get on my datas. It always showed me that i would have to setup the wd live new and all users had been away. I tried also easeus data recovery, but i got ony an output with 100k of pictures, unnamend and not in the original folders, so i didnt know, in which folder i had sorted them originally. You tip with the Paragon Software saved my day and i could access now all my files within the original folders and names on my wd cloud live. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing this! Had an identical drive that stopped working a couple of years ago. I am currently backing it up thanks to your tips that you shared. Feels good that I finally get to recover those precious images and personal videofiles. Have a nice day!
Hi Nikunj, this video , though is about a copule of years old, but it still saves many from years of lost data, i cannot thankyou more, for saving me with such simple, detailed and lucid steps to extract data, thanks!
Many thanks! The MyCloud would stay on the network for about 2 minutes, then disappear. I followed your steps and am recovering everything now. What a relief!
The tips on opening the enclosure were good, I wish I'd known about the credit card trick when mine failed a couple of years back. As for the data recovery, Windows can now use WSL to mount Linux filesystems, so no third-party software needed. Alternatively, as I did back then, you can boot into a Linux Live image such as Ubuntu, it will be able to mount both the old HDD to recover from, and the USB HDD you're recovering to, just drag + drop.
DUDE! Thank you so much for making this video. Just managed to save a whole bunch of data I didn't even know was on it from years and years ago. I've been stuck on a blinking blue LED. One thing though- for me, since the damn MyCloud only broke after I unplugged the power cord without a proper shutdown, I was stuck on an endless "consistency check" because there were some faults in the drive now. After using that program, I did a scan with it and told it to repair the broken sectors, and now BRAVO it works just like new! Just so grateful this headache I've spent a solid working day's worth of hours on is finally cleared!
Thanks so much Nikunj - as the other comments have already said - this worked perfectly (with some slight adjustments for a Mac) and saved my entire Movie Collection and 1000's of photographs... Many Thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing this information. It's exactly what I needed, and just like you said, this is the only place where all of it was in one place.
Thank you very much, your video explained everything my drive was doing and I thought I had lost it all. I am now in the process of backing it all up thanks to you and your video!
Great guide, thanks for sharing it with people who might not know. My only critique: Laying the hard drive onto the computer sitting sideways like that is unnecessarily risky in my opinion. If by accident it falls and/or some of the exposed contacts on the drive are shorted by the metal of the case, I would be worried about ruining the drive. I'd recommend at least inserting it into the case properly or maybe getting an external USB 3 enclosure or docking station. Your data is worth that much.
Mate, as everybody mentioned, you're a lifesaver! Thank you so much for this video explaining in detail how to do it...I used the Zilkee device to connect to the drive and also the Paragon software...files are now being copied! God bless you, buddy! THANK YOU! 😊🙏🙌
I agree with the other responders! Your video saved a LOT of hard work and memories for me! Thank you so much for making this video. You've helped a lot of people. I'm certainly greatful!
Thank you SO MUCH! My drive was giving the same issue and your video guided me smoothly through the whole thing. The part about it being a Linux drive and which software to use for recovery was especially useful! Thanks again, much appreciated
I do have a follow up question: Given the HDD seems to be physically ok and readable, is there a way to get the NAS functioning again? I was getting the same red light as you. The drive IP showed up on my router, but if I tried to access it from my PC the windows explorer would crash. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I would like to personally thank you for your guide and it was really simple and easy to follow and allowed me to salvage data from the MyCloud like yours. All the best for your future endeavours. Thank again.
Mate, thanks alot, i swear i tried to understand this rubbish product and i was suffering moving my stuff, almost many years with no clue to wd trap, you set us free thanks
Thank you. I am currently copying 2.5GB of lost memories and stuff using Paragon on trial to mount the drives. I cannot explain why I am nearly crying with joy.
I'm going through this situation currently and starting to work through it but I had no clue about the Linux format thing. Genuinely helpful! (I can't say that about all how-to videos on RUclips)
Thank you for this. Worked like a champ for my 4TB My Cloud. Though I have a Sabrent 2-drive docking station, so it was easier to plug it into that. After installing Paragon Linux for Windows, and starting up the drive, it gave me 3 drive folders. The first one was a headache with a dozen or so popups that mostly wanted me to format the drive. After ignoring all of those popups, the second drive folder was the linux os, nothing to worry about saving there. The 3rd drive folder was all of my data with zero corruption. All that work for what was likely just a failed firmware update. Between the factory reset hack on My Book, and this failed firmware on My Cloud 5 weeks later, I'm pretty much done with WD. Thanks again bro.
@@nikunjmuglani Luckily I managed to get all my data off & onto a Seagate USB drive before I had problems this morning. Thanks for the video. I'm going to try it later to use it as a local drive.. WD have stated they no longer support the My Cloud (OS3) and suggest I buy one of their updated products running OS5. What? So I can update that too in a couple of years? Interesting. Is your dock also connected via usb to your computer or laptop? And did you use the same software as it the video? This gives me hope i can finally recover everything from my my cloud and then it will go into the dumpster.
I was so excited to find this video. Finally, after so many years, I would be able to recover my files from this old WD My Cloud crap. Then, at 13.40... My bubble of happiness bursts... I only own laptops PCs... I did download and saved your video in case, one day, I found someone who has a desktop computer. Thank you very much for sharing. Great job!
Thank you. You are a star. I had the solid yellow light issue and nothing would work. Managed to recover all the archives for my business. Backing up to Google Drive and My Passport in the future. I can't express how thankful I am after a few stressful days.
Thank you soo much!!! You have just saved my company with this video. 10 years worth important data on that wd cloud drive...my office work came to a halt after it crashed! Cant thank you enough!! This incidence opened my eyes never to trust these drives again!
Great work Nikunj. So easy to follow and the software solution is perfect. Saved 2 TB and 15 years of photos and videos. You're a life saver. Cheers chap.
I too have to add a massive thanks. The tip on the Linux drive allowed me to connect to my dual boot laptop and 'fsck" the disk. Once clean, I was able to recover my remaining data.
This saved me a lot of time and effort in getting my files back off the mycloud drive ! Thank you for sharing, you're an absolute legend ! The software you recommended worked a treat.
Going thogh reading all the comments from people who would have lost so much data memories and such without this video and it's saved me from using one I found that my mom purchased and never used I've decided to pull the hard drive out and use that alone in a drive case and format the drive for use as a standard external drive.
Thank you SOOO much! Same story as many others. My mother-in-law sadly passed away and there was no more delaying the inevitable task that I had been postponing for a year: I had to get those pictures off the old NAS which had crashed after a power failure. What caused some delay was the fact that I stupidly downloaded the wrong version of the Paragon software so initially the software couldn't find my WD drive. When I figured out that I'd installed the Apple version instead of the Linux version I was very very pleased to recover all those old family pictures. And I'll hopefully score some browny points with my wife!
Wow I have the same drive mine is a 6TB drive. Noticed just recently it will just drop off the local network for no reason. Fortunately I have a host of other drives. I will take your video as a wake up call and start redundancy back up immediately. I have close to 4TB stored on this already started moving some of the files a month ago . Looks like its time to finish the migration. scary situation to be in. Thanks for the how to video.
Thanks, my guy! Appreciate the tip about the Linux file reader; I wouldn't have gotten to that realisation anywhere near as quickly if I hadn't found this video. Have a great day!
Wow! Thank you! Excellent. Saved me hours of trying to figure out how to get into an old one. Apparently the new SMB client in Windows had stopped talking to the older SMB1. Your video saved the day! You rock my friend! You rick!
This was awesome! Thank you so much for the help. Saved me over $2k that I was quoted for data recovery. Didn't cost me half that for a fully equipped Synology NAS to replace the MyCloud.
Thank you so much for the software recommendation. I looks like it is working fine reading my data from my old MyCloud Drive which I placed in an external HDD Case. So much potentially lost data saved because of you and this video. Thanks again for making this video. YOU ROCK!!!
WD MyCloud 4TB NAS older hardware only supports the Cloud OS3 and doesn't support the latest Cloud OS5 software for compatible devices. As the only choice given by Western Digital was to upgrade to a compatible WD Cloud OS5 device. I debated for months to make a decision on my next WD NAS upgrade and disconnected the remote access through the web browser a week ago. Time run out and WD Cloud OS3 only devices' security updates support ended on April 15th, 2022. I wasn't pleased with the choices and the WD Red Nas 4TB hard drive inside the old device is still in good condition. I decided to go with Synology as my new NAS. I bought a diskless NAS that will arrive next week and two 16TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro NAS SATA HDDs that arrived today. Also, I ordered today after watching your video an enclosure for my WD Red NAS 4TB HDD to access and organize my data in the meantime. I already have Paragon extFS for Mac so I am ok on that front to see the Linus device on my Finder window. I can't thank you enough the dilemma of dismantling the WD Cloud and taking out the drive without damaging was adverted and it was a very fast process of about 10 - 15 minutes tops. Clear and Concise. Bravo!!
Thank-you so much for this video. I am a writer and with your assistance, I was able to successfully recover several of my stories (as well as several important databases and documents). Saved me from haveing to re-create all that stuff.
This MyCloud is the same as mine, and it’s going out of service with the change to OS 5. As such, after I save my data from it, I want to shuck it and convert it into a regular USB drive. This should help a lot. Thanks.
The old MyClouds are still usable. They just aren't supported any more and there are no further updates to the firmware. That means they will be vulnerable to attacks if the sharing over the Internet feature is enabled, so they've turned that off permanently with the final update that was sent out earlier this year. They are still fine for use on a local network until the drive itself fails. You can connect an external drive to the USB port and set it up as a safepoint using the MyCloud control panel. The external drive can be NTFS formatted, if you want, which makes it easier to read using a Windows PC. Setting it as a safepoint will make a backup of your files and keep it up to date every night. Then, when the internal drive eventually fails you can use the backup to recover your files. The original MyClouds aren't made any more. They've been replaced by the MyCloud Home, which isn't as useful. It isn't a proper NAS and doesn't support the SMB protocol. It only works when connected to the Internet. So the old MyClouds are worth hanging onto. It is possible to replace a completely failed hard drive with one of the same size or bigger - there are detailed instructions for installing the operating system that the small ARM-based computer board needs on the WD support site. You can then restore all your data from a safepoint drive and have the unit working again.
You are the bomb! I followed you step by step and am downloading a ton of lost business files that I thought I'd never see again. And pretty proud of myself for it too! Thanks so much!!
Your a saviour! Worked like a charm! All 3 + TB. Probably had it al backed up but Now I have it all for sure. Thankyou again. Mine did not have the RED Led prob, mine was the never ending ( 3 days +)flickering blue LED.

Your Video has been really helpful for me. I have just retrieved successfully my files from this 3 terabites hard disk. The MyCloud NAS just stopped working with no clue about what to do. Never again a piece of hardware of this type because is just to risky. Many Thanks nikunj muglani
Thanks for this video. This gave me some confidence to open up my WD NAS. But my problem was the network light on the back was not light even when the network cable is attached. But after powering down the NAS for 1/2 an hour, it came back online. So I did not have to do this. But this is the only video I can find on how to open this NAS. Good video.
EXCELLENT - EXCELLENT - EXCELLENT. Thank you. I spent so long researching and was just about to give up and I found your video. You would think there are more than just a few PC users who have a WD My Cloud that has been EOL-ed and need help getting their files. I'm very grateful. 20 years of photos and video are no longer lost. Thank you.
Thank you for the video! You mentioned the EXT file compatibility and Window plus suggested us the software to access the hard drive. This is equally helpful as the tutorial of how to take the hd out from the case. Thanks again!
Cheers. Mine recently went red on me. Was most of the way through backing up the data by plugging it directly into my PCs second ethernet port when it just decided I wasn't allowed access to my files anymore. Downloading the software now. Gonna reboot the PC in a minute with the drive attached and see how we go. Thanks for doing all the research and compiling it all in one easy-to-follow video. EDIT: Reboot complete. Everything showed up instantly, got it copying over now. Big thank you for the remote assist on this one.
Thank you Nikunj, you helped me rescue 3 TB of photos, documents & files which an external Data recovery firm wanted in excess of £350 to do for me. Top man, thank you.
the part not possible to unscrew was not actually needed to unscrew, instead grab the black part and unwind it as if it was a spinning handle - very easy. took me a moment to realize as well. my main issue with the disassembly was that the screw in the last step was different size in my case than the previous ones and I could not find a proper one
Great video, thank you! Although I certainly wouldn't have bought another WD product since they let us all down by ditching support for this original My Cloud product.
Thanks much for the video! I'm stuck exactly where you're stuck at 11:45! The 2.0 hex is too small and the 2.5 hex is too large, can't find anything in between. Did you end up taking that last metal piece out?
In my case the hex screw head was worn out so I bent the metal piece a couple of times till the time the screw became a bit lose and then turned it using a pair of pliers. 😂
Hi did you have to format your new usb drive ,and once you transfered the files to your new hard drive could you read then normally or did you need to read them with linux

FYI: there's a fantastic FREE bulk file renaming program (called "Bulk Rename Utility"). That can scan all your files and directories for "recovered" (or anything you want) and remove it
Thank you!! You saved my son’s baby pictures and videos. In my case when I downloaded the data the files format is not recognizable by windows, so right now I don’t know how to identify if it’s a video, photo or pdf. Any advise? Another program might work perhaps? Thank you!
Same WD MyCloud issue. I'm following your steps, using an SATA external docking station to USB3, but windows doesn't recognize my drives. When i go to the Disk Management found a "new" Disk1 (without partitions) and system ask to initialize them (MBR or GPT mode). Paragon is empty of drives. This could be normal? Should i initialize the Disk1? Already tried different PC's. Any suggestion? Thanks

When I figured out that I'd installed the Apple version instead of the Linux version I was very very pleased to recover all those old family pictures. And I'll hopefully score some browny points with my wife!
Thank you for that demonstration. I have a MyCloud that has reached the end of its support so I need to move to a more modern drive.
I didn't do it as you show, but it gave me an idea to recover my files and it worked great. Thank you.
Bro!! Thanks a million for this video!! Saved 3.4TB of data from a dying MyCloud drive...
Great info thanks. Got my data back from this old WD MyCloud drive! Cheers!
You rick!
Glad it helped 🙂
Thank You Brother It's Work but if i purchase new drive how to configure partition and all ?
This was awesome! Thank you so much for the help. Saved me over $2k that I was quoted for data recovery. Didn't cost me half that for a fully equipped Synology NAS to replace the MyCloud.
Thank you so much for the software recommendation. I looks like it is working fine reading my data from my old MyCloud Drive which I placed in an external HDD Case. So much potentially lost data saved because of you and this video. Thanks again for making this video. YOU ROCK!!!
Glad it helped 🙂
THANK YOU!!! Saved 27,497 family pictures and videos.
😊
Bravo!!
you, my friend, are fantastic! what a great video presentation. An absolute lifesaver!
Thank-you so much for this video. I am a writer and with your assistance, I was able to successfully recover several of my stories (as well as several important databases and documents). Saved me from haveing to re-create all that stuff.
My WD my cloud just bricked. You saved me brother thanks so much for your info data is transferring right now.
Glad it helped!
Thank you. Saved those precious memories. Priceless.
Thanks a lot! Do you have a idea for those who works on macbook pro? How to connect the drive? Thank you so much!!!
You are the bomb! I followed you step by step and am downloading a ton of lost business files that I thought I'd never see again. And pretty proud of myself for it too! Thanks so much!!
Thank you so so much for this tutorial. I spent more time trying to open the drive than installing the software and so on haha.
Thanks again
Spot on, thanks for the info….same issues here. Transferred a ton of data yesterday thanks to your video👍
Thank you for your video. You saved all my files stored in the WDMycloud and cannot be read after upgraded to iOS 5
Your a saviour! Worked like a charm! All 3 + TB. Probably had it al backed up but Now I have it all for sure. Thankyou again. Mine did not have the RED Led prob, mine was the never ending ( 3 days +)flickering blue LED.
You just saved my day. I'm see you get this a lot, but I had no idea Seagate Personal Cloud used a different file system Windows could not read. I'm recovering my data from the drive in my
Wow. You are a life saver. For my PR2100 NAS network adaptor isn't working so I need to backup data.
Thank you! I watched other videos to crack open this, but with your method I was able to pop the cover out in under a minute!
Your Video has been really helpful for me. I have just retrieved successfully my files from this 3 terabites hard disk. The MyCloud NAS just stopped working with no clue about what to do. Never again a piece of hardware of this type because is just to risky. Many Thanks nikunj muglani
Glad that helped 😊
Thanks for this video. This gave me some confidence to open up my WD NAS. But my problem was the network light on the back was not light even when the network cable is attached. But after powering down the NAS for 1/2 an hour, it came back online. So I did not have to do this. But this is the only video I can find on how to open this NAS. Good video.
Thank you...u save my day...WD my cloud power fail...used the software and manage to retrieve all my data...Thank you very much
You're welcome! I'm glad it worked for you.
Thank you so much, very detailed instructions. Was able to recover data from my wdmycloud finally.
You sir are a god, I cannot begin to say how grateful I am to have found your video !! earned a sub
Glad I could help 🙂
Thank you sir for making this video. Saving my life's work now.
You're welcome! I'm glad this helped.
Thanks Buddy, you are a Saviour...
Works great! Saved me a ton of time. Suggestion: To save time and not open computer I used a Sabrent USB 3.0 hard drive flat docking station.
Thank you Nikunj, you helped me rescue 3 TB of photos, documents & files which an external Data recovery firm wanted in excess of £350 to do for me. Top man, thank you.
Lifesaver!! Thank you for this video I was about to give up on this and thought my pictures were gone!!
thank you easy to follow and accurate was able to recover some old family photos from over 6 years ago thank you.
You're welcome! I'm glad this helped.
the part not possible to unscrew was not actually needed to unscrew, instead grab the black part and unwind it as if it was a spinning handle - very easy. took me a moment to realize as well. my main issue with the disassembly was that the screw in the last step was different size in my case than the previous ones and I could not find a proper one
Thank you very much for your information. The program works.
I can't thank you enough for your video, everything you explained was spot on and helped me recover all of my files. Thanks again.
Great video, thank you! Although I certainly wouldn't have bought another WD product since they let us all down by ditching support for this original My Cloud product.
THANK YOU dear Sir!!!!!! Magnificent video, PEACE and God bless.
DUUUUDE.....I bricked WD MY Cloud drive before an dit happened again...I was going crazy this time not knowing what I ad in there because my computer also went haywire these days...You literally saved my mind....Thank you
Glad it helped ☺️
You saved my data 😊😊 be blessed! Thank you!
FYI: there's a fantastic FREE bulk file renaming program (called "Bulk Rename Utility").
That can scan all your files and directories for "recovered" (or anything you want) and remove it
Bro you really saved me. lot of my data and photo childhood memories are saved. I thanks you from my heard. thanks
Thanks
