    Thank you for sharing this technic. I love the graphic you printed too. Question: if one would like NOT to keep the wood background for the graphic, is it possible to paint white (water base paint) and only then put the drrawing on top ? I guess yes, as long as the surface is able to suck the colors in, am I right ?

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams
      @Benjaminjohnwilliams  7 лет назад +2

      Panda Rouge your welcome. I havnt tried it with paint on the wood first. It may work, if you did a real watered down coat of white! Or you could just print colour on the whole page of paper, and ink out the whole board

      You could put masking tape over the dried graphic

Maybe you could make a video where you make a board, start to finish? I think it could give your channel many new viewers.

    @Benjamin john williams great vid, im going to try this method but i have 3 questions i hope you can reply. 1. How are you printing white, i thought printers didnt print white? 2. My images i want are black and white, will your method work if i spray the board white first or does it need to soak straight into the wood? 3. Did you have to sand the board down first? Thanks

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams
      @Benjaminjohnwilliams  4 года назад

      Hey man,
      Your right, printers don’t print white, the white will be how ever light the timber is.
      You will definitely have to sand any paint off the board so the graphic can soak directly into the wood.
      An idea: if you want your white to really pop, you might be able to use some sort of white wash wood stain (rather than paint) that might keep the wood porous enough to transfer the image.
      You would have to experiment on a scrap.
      Hope this helps 🤙🏼

      Yeah. Do the first coat with a clear spray and then 2 finish coats with paint brush.
      If you use a paint brush on the first coat, you will probably smear the image.

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams
      @Benjaminjohnwilliams  5 лет назад +1

      Tyler Galang I’m not super sure, I haven’t done it with a base coat. It’s worth trying on a scrap first. I feel like the ink won’t dry because it can’t seep into the raw wood...

    im thinking to try this but before transferring the images to the board, do i need to sand paper down the surface of the board to take out the coating thing of the blank deck first? Also does this technique works on blank color stain board (not color printed one)? Thank you!

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams
      @Benjaminjohnwilliams  5 лет назад +1

      Hiroki Toda hey there, yes you will definitely have to sand off any coating, so the wood can absorb the printer ink.
      If the board is stained and not clear coated, you might be able to make it work... if your able to do a test run on a scrap piece of wood, that would help. Good luck

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams

      You can get UV inkjet printers that can print to these uneven surfaces. Not the cheapest but it totally avoids using transfer / carrier sheets. Jigs can be gotten to print directly to multiple decks at once with either the same or different graphics per item. Some UV inkjet printers can also print on objects upwards of 8-11 inches tall / thick.

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams
      @Benjaminjohnwilliams  7 лет назад

      dave morris I always used oil based polyurethane, only because I had a lot of it. It worked really well, and sealed the boards good.
      You might be able to use water base, once the ink hits the wood, it’s like it drys instantly.
      I’d do a test first

  • @_Official_Jacob
    @_Official_Jacob 5 лет назад

    what do you use for your clear coat

    • @Benjaminjohnwilliams
      @Benjaminjohnwilliams  5 лет назад

      _Official_.Jacob it’s been a while since I’ve done it, but I think a might have given it a quick coat of clear spray (to seal it)
      Spray so you don’t potentially smear the fresh ink. Once that’s dry, roll on or paint brush with some polyurethane clear. In what ever finish you like. (I like satin)
      If your able to do a test on a piece of wood, you might be able to skip the spray and just apply with roller
