  • It's finally time for us to go to France and start making preliminary arrangement for our April move. We hope to be able to look at some possible apartments to live in starting in April. BUT, the first step towards being considered by a landlord is to create a "dossier" that provides lots of information about you. In this video, I'll share with you the step-by-step of uploading your "Dossier" information on France's portal setup on the government website, to facilitate the exchange of Dossier information between potential landlords and tenants making application for a rental.

HAVE YOU CHECKED OUT MY NEW “POSTCARDS FROM MY GOLDEN YEARS” MERCH?
    Here’s the link - postcards-from-my-golden-year...
Hi! I'm An Scott. I'm a happily retired 70 year old woman with my “golden years” on the horizon, living the “good life”, whatever that is on any given day, with my fun husband Jeff, and our “bossy” little Yorkie, Bella. In April, 2024, when my husband retires, we are moving from the SW Florida, in the good old USA to Nice France to live out our “golden years” on the sunny Mediterranean coast of southern France, in Nice France. Moving from the USA to a foreign country is no small “project”. SUBSCRIBE, FOR FREE, to my channel and as we progress through the steps of doing that, you’ll be able to follow along through each stage of our preparation and then catch up with us, as we settle in to our new life. We might even have some information you’re going to need if you’re also planning a move to France (or the EU)
For now, come with us as we embrace our days and nights living everyday as though there is no tomorrow. I hope you’ll subscribe to my channel, join our Facebook community, connect with me on social media and share your thoughts and comments here or there.
If there are any topics you’d like to see us share or “visit” with you, please be sure to let me know! NOTHING IS OFF LIMITS! (Check out my past videos to see some of my most eyebrow raising videos, that happen to be my most popular) I’m happy to talk about all of those things us “older” women think about but rarely say out loud. So feel free to send me suggestions in the comments, always.

Great information! So glad there is an online option in addition to the dossier. Excited to learn what Adrian thinks of your dossier 😊. Enjoy France 🇫🇷

Ann thank you so much for this information. I learned so much on this video. I had never heard of a "dossier" to rent a property. You did a great job explaining in detail how to fill out the form on the French government website. Hey I wanted to ask you if you could do a video for us explaining how does one put "Medicare on Hold" and what does on "Hold" mean in terms of penalties when one needs to sign up again. You have mentioned in other videos that you are going to be doing that soon and I can not find any information about that online. Thanks again for taking the time to educate us on how to move to France.

Thanks for your note. I'm not sure of what I could put in an entire video on putting our Medicare deduction on hold. It would take 5 minutes. It's very simple. You call Social Security for an appointment (or you can go there and take a number). You tell them you're leaving the US and since Medicare coverage isn't available in France, you'd like to pause or stop the deductions indefinitely. I don't know if there is a penalty if you restart it. We aren't planning to ever come back. You would have to ask at your appointment. I was told that we should ask to "pause" it as opposed to stopping it. We won't be doing that until just before we leave so I won't have more info until after our appt. If anything, I may mention it in another video, when we're very close to taking off for France, just as a matter of fact. Thanks again for your comment.

Very informative especially about submitting the US income tax returns and getting a letter from landlord stating you paid rent on time!Questions:1. Did you have to translate any portion of your Tax Returns or Social Security/Pension letters? 2. Did you use pre-tax (gross) or post-tax (net) amounts for your Pension and Social Security.

I used the English version of both the Tax Return and Social Security benefit statement. I used the pre-tax (gross) amount for our Social Security payments because we intend to pause our medicare deduction once we're living in France and once we have 0 or very minimal other income, our tax liability will hopefully be very low, so we'll reduce our tax deductions. Hoping the bill stopping taxing of Social Security benefits will one day get passed. I have not received anything more back from the French government, regarding our submission, so I assume all is well.

@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears thanks for the clarification. Look forward to updates on how effective the digital vs hard-copy dossiers were.

My wife and I are enjoying your videos. We live outside the US already, but are considering a move to France. How are the current inflation and high energy cost in France affecting your plans? Are the current conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, which could eventually negatively affect Europe, altering anything you are doing? Thank you.

We are moving from an expensive tourist town in SW Florida. We predict our cost of living in Nice to be around 1/2 of what it costs us now, plus we won't have a car or the expenses of owning one, in Nice. Our lifestyle will change, no doubt. Financially, we are embracing the move to France. As far as what's happening with wars in other parts of the world, it is a concern, but no more than if we stay in the US. We have far more concerns about the political state of things here in Florida, with all the bans and anti this, anti that, etc and if the 4x convict gets back in the WH. Can't wait to leave the US for good.
