A fine decent honest man I met on a few occasions as a friend of the family. If only there was more like him the church wouldn’t be the mess it is. I haven’t been to mass in 34 years but keep my own personal spirituality and try and go through life and do no harm onto others. God bless you Brian.

Well said Fr. Brian, You are an almost unique voice of necessary changes in the Irish Catholic church and in Irish society. I commend you for your absolute honesty, bravery and humanity. Our country needs more brave and honest individuals like you. You are an invaluable national treasure. Long may you live - our country needs you

Power corrupts and the Catholic church at that time had absolute power which made the frustrated priests and nuns into sadistic monsters. There are many undiscoverd mass graves of children to be found at the back of old hospitals, convents.

As a humanist. Stroke atheist I have nothing but great admiration for this man who speaks the truth. The whole truth about the Catholic Church and its evil past he seems to me to be a deep thinker. Especially about the morass the world finds itself in. Personally I find the church vile. Disgusting and like all religions filling peoples minds with indoctrination and nonsense

Fr. Darcy hits the nail on the head - there was only one acceptable type of family. That's the problem with our society. Nobody should be looked down upon because of their family circumstances.

Awful. d'Arcy admits that there is collusion between the church and the state against the Irish people. Further, he blames the Irish people and not the members of the church for what happened in Tuam. They speak of change, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I will never understand religious logic:
Two people commit sin by having unmarried sex and creating a child.
The child had no responsibility in this, but we punish it for the sin anyway.
The mother of the child is a sinner, and we punish her hard.
The father of the child might be a sinner, but we forgive this sin and let him live his life without any consequences for this act.
Then we try to forget any of this ever happened.
This is how we uphold a high moral standard.
And it's not just the Catholics. It a problem with all the Abrahamic religions. Nor is it just the clergy either.

    • @eulamae1905
      @eulamae1905 6 лет назад

For those of us who are true followers of Jesus Christ, there is no excuse for what was done to the mothers and babies by the Catholic church. Jesus taught love and forgiveness and to treat everyone with respect as we are all His children. He taught when one sins, to lift that one up, restore them and help them....not to condemn, belittle, and punish them for their sin. It's not our place to do that. I love a quote by Billy Graham that said, "God judges, the Holy Spirit convicts, my job is to love." I would tremble at the thought of standing before Almighty God if I had treated babies and children or their mothers in that way. Anyone, whether Catholic or Protestant, should remember Christ's words, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." Matt.18:6

Nonsense! The people of Ireland are accountable. Those who stood by or walk on the other side of the road, knowing what was going on, are just as accountable.
The fathers, brothers, uncles, priests who impregnated these girls are accountable. Ireland allowed itself to be ruled by the Church. Do not insult our intelligence by denying the accountability of the Irish communities.

FATHER DARCY should be our next pope!! seriously, though, he was very good on the late, late show tonight (feb-17-2017) but, tell me, does he have a secret child out there? it does not matter, of course. at least he is sexually normal.
but, for me, the worst thing about the human race is that there are, or were, loads of lower class semi-illiterate people who went to mass every week because they thought it made them "better class". better clarse, more like. education is FREE OF CHARGE, yet the lower classes will not educate their kids to the best of their abilities. education is a dirty word to this particular social class. they would rather retain their most cherished possession - their ignorance. they don't want to join the middle classes after all. think about that bit.

Popes since the end of WWII have been politicians Is the Pope running anything? Are his handlers and the Cardinals really in charge? Is it all about public relations now? Pope Francis talks about sins against memory? Sins against ecumenism? Not bowing at the Consecration of the Holy Sacrament? Why is the secular world so in love with him? We were always taught to offer our suffering up to God. The nuns and priests were taught that by their superiors when their plans and dreams were quashed. It was too much sometimes. The rights and holiness of the individual weren't held up often unless they were in the womb.

And do what the United Nations tell us to do . Oh how we have changed. People power has changed the catholic church. If that's what the people want that's what they get.
