- For former Vogue fashion director Lucinda Chambers, the decoration of her west London house has been a 30-year evolution, choosing and adjusting the elements of each room as she would her clothes - with a sense of colour, character and above all stylish comfort. As fashion icon Diana Vreeland famously wrote, 'the eye has to travel', and in Lucinda's house, there are endless things to peer and marvel at. 'I am a bit of a tart in that I really like anything," she says. "I am as happy with two cheap cushions as I am with an expensive piece of art. I don't care where something comes from, as long as it is life-enhancing."

I dont get how people want to live in white grey and cold minimalistic home. When so much life and character and warmth can come from a home like this
so what? i can enjoy this beautiful home and still live in a minimalist environment. i can’t live in this house, i cannot maintain it, i don’t have time to clean it, i don’t have the money to accumulate this much stuff, i don’t have as much story as she does to tell of every piece in my house and i shouldnt have to. thats why this is HER house lol. just watch the video and as your username says cheer up!
@@AJ-td5fk You dont have to maintain anything with art or pain on the walls? Also not really that expensive, most of my home is thrifted and most of the art in my home is also thrifted. You can be a minimalist and still have a warm and welcoming home, doesnt need to be FULL of stuff, just doesnt need to be dead and dreary and devoid of life.

It's about chaos. This is about visual chaos for many people - it's not soothing. Give me a warm beige, grey and white pallet - earth tones.
@@kermitthefrog3632 Empty walls, no color, no life, no joy, no warmth, no personality it makes me feel panicked and claustrophobic and just dead. Like it isnt natural and feel off to me. Very dystopian and fake to me

"my house looks like me" THAT is the secret to style-- develop your personal style, then let it flow into every aspect of your life. I was so proud when a visitor to my craft fair booth where my daughter and I were selling our artwork said that our booth had a wonderful, welcoming, bookish aura, and had a distinct earthy smell-- that's how I want my home to feel!
That is the sort of craft fair booth I would visit, for sure.

It literally makes me want to weep when I see all these manufactured homes with all the "right" designer things or big box items (so representative of our culture) but anyway, this home speaks to my heart, and to what it means to be human. This woman and l are kindred spirits. There is so much joy and so much personality in her home, l feel inspired to just get going with my decor. I always said that wherever my guests would rest their eyes, there would be something to delight them. That is what she has accomplished in her home. SHE SAYS IT SO MUCH BETTER..."THE EYE MUST TRAVEL." I love it.

This home and this woman is an example of freedom at an exquisite level I think we all want to achieve.
I just need to say that THIS is a home! It’s full of art and inspiration and meaning! There is nothing pretentious and it doesn’t make her look like she’s posturing to keep up with others. And might I add, her shoes are EVERYTHING ❤❤❤
Just so incredibly warm and dreamy, feel like I could spend ages eating and reading there. I have to say though, the ease with which she got on the property ladder made my heart sink lol. Don’t begrudge her good fortune at all, but life will never be that good or affordable again (whether you’re buying or getting council housing) and it’s a damn shame.

I totally agree with you - these white minimalistic homes are neither cozy nor really homes, these are hideously furnished cardboard boxes !!! If I had to live in such a box I think I would get mad within a few days !!!

Wow so full of life and whimsy!! I’m not a minimalist by any means and I find her house overwhelming. But it works because it’s her story and I love that it’s lived in. Sometimes you see interior design and they all look alike (cookie cutter) but this is fabulous 🌈🌈🌈
I could not agree more with these comments. I love the reflection of life and living that this home conveys as opposed to the cold and lifeless minimalist homes. Homes should bring a story and this one tells volumes.

Such a great home with so many great ideas. I love a colorful lived-in home with stories to tell and things to look at where you feel welcome right away. I highly dislike the beige and white and "everything the same as everyone else's" style that too many people seem to be into today. This brings me such joy. You can tell her personal style translated to the home.

I currently live in New Zealand but coming from India... I cannot imagine living in a house without any color. Though my style is more scandinavian... my house is a good blend of scandi with Indian handcrafts, paintings, indian decors with lots of colors and patterns. No color, no life. 😊

I just came back from Marrakech and you won't believe the things I brought back in my luggages. Is crazy there. They won't let you go once you are inside their shops and one won't resist of the number they offer you at the end of many back and forth because it good music for your ears 😂. I left personal stuff there for the sake of bringing things back home 😅

This is not a 'cluttered' home - it is a place filled with things that she loves and has fond memories of.

Its called maximalism (opposit of minimalism), when books, bookshelves, vases, art objects, walls full with paintings, big chandeliers, layers of curtains, layers of carpets, mixture of textiles, mix of patterns, colors, materials are in rooms. It remainds of "curiosity chambers" bevor museums were even invented in history.
I'm pretty sure she has cleaners for that.
Love the way she dresses and her home mirrors that relaxed but considered eclecticism...
She has pops of acid yellow colour everywhere - so cleverly done.

As mentioned by a previous reviewer, grey seems to rule in many room schemes nowadays. I do like grey, but not to the extent of wanting it wall-to-wall. This home is lovely and colourful, as well as fascinating and quirky. I found this video very therapeutic and inspiring.
