The ones who make the rules aren’t necessarily the ones receiving the blood. I had to have 3 transfusions this past year & it saved my life. Thank you Joel and everyone else who has donated. You may never know the lives you save but know you are saving lives.
I'm an old Christian, and Cheryl is TOTALLY right. And I have always said the same thing. Some people say "You can't just pick and choose what you believe about the bible". Yeah you can. It was written by a bunch of different men who could not even agree with each other. And men back then thought women were lower than slaves, cattle, and the house dog, to I am not listening to anything they have to say about women.
My father recently died from leukemia. He required many blood transfusions during his treatment. I'm forever grateful to everyone who donates blood...it's such a generous, selfless act.
Cheryl sent you a gold mine. People pay outrageous amounts for antique postcards! If times get hard, you can sell them to interested buyers! Thank you, Cheryl, you are a doll!
Hi Joel. This "gift opening" was a joy to see. You are right when you said, "I feel so blessed". What thoughtful gifts from people who took the time to find presents that they knew you would appreciate. Whenever you feel blue, just go through these amazing books and know that you are loved and appreciated by friends all over the world. Happy Belated Birthday. 🎂 🫂❤️🙏🌎🕊
The UK looks better and better every time you show a different town. Beautiful. Perhaps the weather changing maybe contributes to your lightheadedness after your blood donation? Sometimes the changing weather bothers my sinuses and my balance doesn't feel right. I love your bookstores in the UK. I enjoyed this video.😊❤
Hi Joel I'm so happy that you're giving blood. I had to have a blood transfusion in April and after that I thought of all the people donating and how it saved my life. You are really helping ❤. Thank you
Joel, you're simply too adorable. ❤😂😂😂 I love your reactions while opening the packages 📦 and how grateful you are for each gift that was given. You're like a big kid in a candy story. 😁🤗💞💕
About giving blood- good for you, Joel. I have an appointment to give blood this Saturday at 5:30. You have a birthday party or Christmas Party every time you go to the post office. Good for you! Loved this.
I give blood three times a year, women have to have a longer gap than men. Just once I was there 2.5hrs. First of all my arm wouldn’t stop bleeding. Then, when it did, I kept fainting every time I tried to sit up. They told me that most people have a “bad” session once. So far they are right. I’ve never had that issue since.
Try donating platelets next time. You can do it way more often but it takes longer. Platelets are given to cancer patients to replenish what the chemo kills off. I donate as often as possible as a way to give back. I received 2 units of blood after a car accident I was in back in 2009.
It is wonderful good deed in donating your blood. I would love to do blood donations but I am unable to donate blood with my two fused heart valves and bad heart murmur that was discovered when I was toddler. It would be high heart danger risk towards my own health to do blood donation that I have been encouraged to not do since I was child. I am lucky to know my hubby and our son can donate their own blood to me if I do need transfusion one day since rest of my family are either A or B blood types awhile we are 0 + blood type. My hubby and our son do donate their blood.
Aww, what thoughtful gifts. ❤It goes to show how much Joel is appreciated for entertaining us and just being you. We love you, Joel, and your lovely gifts. ❤❤
I don’t mind long videos opening mail. It’s fun to see what you got and your reaction to them. I just finished book 6 of the The Throne Glass series. I’m glad he gave you the prequel. That one has five novellas that look into the history of the main character and helps explain people she comes across throughout the series. One of the characters in the novellas doesn’t make an appearance until book 6 but she is important. No spoilers.
So, I know this wasn’t the point at all but I love that you and K are watching 1883! I love that show and find it super fascinating. Also, of course, good stuff on giving blood your saving lives and setting a good example for others. I sent you something once it got returned and I haven’t tried again but I think I will try again soon 🎉🎉 happy birthday hope it was a great one
Until recently I wasn't allowed to donate blood because I lived in Berlin in the late 80s and early 90s and was married to a guy in the military. The were getting meat from England and they had cattle with hoof and mouth, not cool. We found out when my son was a senior in high school that we couldn't. My daughter went ballistic, she had been wanting to donate blood since she was 6 years old. So when she got to her senior year she said she wasn't going to tell them. But I raised honest children so she told them I was pregnant with her back then, and they said it didn't count. She has gotten so many tee shirts it not even funny, in the states you get a tee shirt every time. She has gotten a bunch of other things, a towel, a rain coat, and others I can't remember. She got a little trophy too, and little pins for how much she has given. And yes Joel, snakes galore 😁
8:36 really hot over here today, Joel! 100 F (37.7 C) was predicted, and the current temperature outside is 96 F or 35 C! This is in the San Francisco Bay Area in the State of California....but not right in the city that's named after the body of water. That city, SF, is 82 F or 27 C!! A little cooler the rest of the week but it's not supposed to go below 72 F (22 C) for at least the next ten days, and the 24th is supposed to be 80 F or 26 C. 🙂
Hi my name is Kate but I use my husband account lol, well done for talking about blood donation, it so important my husband has given blood for 20 years, his blood can by given to anyone, even babies, I am like your mum so can't sadly.they need more young men to give blood from Asian, black men because they are short of that blood type but alot of young men are always getting tattoos and you have to wait so long after, it good that gay men can now donate ❤, I think it was to do with hiv? If I needed blood I like the sound of getting gay blood, I always think gay men are more jolly than straight men lol,I am not very PC but I find gay are always fun to be with, good job joel, ❤Kate 😊
Good on ya for giving blood Joel. I wasn't allowed for quite a few years (in the USA) because I had lived in Europe and might have CJD (mad cow disease). Once I was allowed, I started donating platelets (A+ donor) every two weeks and whole blood every 2.5 months. My own anemia and high BP brought an end (temporarily) to that though. My lifetime whole blood donations is over 8 GALLONS(US) plus the platelets - which are primarily used for pediatric cancer patients - of nearly 5G! Best thing after donating blood is a nice chilled glass of sparkling wine from Digby -- ahem -- or a Prosecco. *ETA: when we were in Scotland, we stopped at (or just past) the village where Beatrix Potter spent her summers as a child/young adult and inspired her books...I think it was Dunkeld.
You should have complained, at least gently, about the nurses. They behaved unprofessionally, even though there was no ill-will intended towards you. I live in the US and my blood is not accepted because it is British!! 😂. My American husband cannot either because he lived in the UK within a certain time frame.
My husband was upset when his blood was thrown away due to his having been in Germany during the “Mad Cow Disease” era. So it’s good if their changing up their rules
Joel, I commend you for giving blood. It's an ulturistic and selfless act that helps others. However, here in the States with the hysteria and laws banning gay men from donating blood and then imposing so many stipulations thereafter on sexual conduct & behavior when the same is not done for my non-monogamous, drug-taking straight/str8 counterparts, is bigoted, belittling and unnecessarily stigmatizing. As a gay Christian, I should rise above my pettiness, disdain & vehemence about this issue but at this time I cannot offer grace & forgiveness to the U.S. health establishment about their policies on donating blood. It will be a cold day in my personal hell before I donate blood again ( I did so in the 80's). Again, I thank you for doing what I cannot bring myself to do at this time. As gay Christians we are given two commandments: Love God. Love one another. Please pray for me that I might do better with the latter one. Thank you.
Joel, what is your blood type? I am A negative. if you ever need blood let me know. I donate blood every 6 months. mainly for the free cookies and juice.
If you donate every 3 months you will donate 100 times in 25 years. You will still be younger than I am now. Lol - thank you for your donation! I love the story of the middle aged woman flirting.
If you give blood 4 times per year, you'll reach 100 donations in 25 years (100/4 = 25 or 100 = 4*25). Since you're in your early 30s, you'll reach 100 donations when you are in your late 50's. I hope you aren't saying one's late 50's is very old! Even if you only averaged 3 donations per year, you'll reach 100 donations in 33.3 years, and you'll be in your mid to late 60s. Being 63, I hope that is not considered very old either.
Really great video! It was discriminatory to not allow gay people to donate. As for those who now refuse to donate… remember that if you need blood in the future, it will be there for you.

Good afternoon. I wish I could give blood but apparently it’s caused low iron and I was able to start after the laws in Canada changed.I always found it interesting straight people with multiple partners could donate but we were excluded. I was thrilled when I could start and now I can’t. Keep giving blood. Everyone who can, should! 🩸❤🇨🇦
My only frustration with donating blood is they charge the recipient $800-$1,000 a pint in the US. If I donate my blood I want the recipient to receive my blood free. ❤
They have to cover the cost of paying the people who collect the blood, the testing of the blood, the storage of the blood, the transportation of the blood, etc…
@@mr.a. the American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization, however, hospitals have to pay them for the blood to cover administrative and logistical costs and that cost gets forwarded onto you, there is no such thing as free, how long would you survive if you worked for free?
That's awesome you give blood Joel! I donate plasma which makes lifesaving medications. It's an awesome feeling knowing that my donations help someone. It's also a joy to see you open your gifts and sharing them with us too! Keep being you!!
❤ so glad you liked the book❤ I have been donating blood since I was 18, but I’ve been anemic most of my life so I can’t donate regularly. Glad you’re able and willing to do it. Not too many people do. 😊
My gosh I didn't know there are rules to giving blood. By the way have you considered donating stem cells? My brother had multiple myeloma a rare blood cancer for his age as he's young. After receiving a stem cell transplant from his donor his cancer is not in sight :)
What a great video. You really are an inspiration and a happy distraction to everything going on in the world. Thanks so much. And your workouts are paying off. Looking very buff lately. Love to you and Keegan and the family. ❤
I’m so happy you enjoyed your gifts Joel, you are a positive influence on many, and well deserving of everything good that comes your way. 🥰 And make sure you do get Keegan to play some of those piano songs, would love to hear them! 🙂
Hiya Joel, are you going to read Wuthering Heights? I enjoyed this vlog, You must be thankful for all the things you get to your P.O box, I hope you have kept the recipes I've sent you, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
So … I live in Canada and I am not allowed to give blood because I lived in the UK for over 6 months in 1985/86. This is because of the risk of contracting Creudztfeld-Jakob (mad cow) disease. Apparently there is still no licensed test for it. You would think by now the ban would be lifted!
I'm 77 and used to donate blood every three months and then I had a heart attack and was put on different drugs. Sadly, several of them now prohibit my donating blood anymore.
I am not allowed to give blood due to the fact that I had Hepatitis B and even though I cannot get it myself anymore, I am a carrier and can pass it along.
Up until this year, I couldn't give blood in the US because I lived in the UK for 6 months between 1980 and 1997 (the mad cow scare). I tried to donate my breastmilk back in 2009 (I pumped more than my baby could eat), but they wouldn't take that either :(
Joel this is fantastic! Thank you. God for you giving blood. I used to give as often as they would let me til I got too anemic too. And they beg me all the time cuz I've got universal donor blood. I watched the rules change here in TN and it's nice to see them be less prejudiced and hopefully better for actual safety. Oh oh oh, yay, Assassin's Blade is the prequel for the series Throne Of Glass, that is really good, but don't base it off that one, cuz like the hobbit is a bit different than the main books. And the birthday gifts were all so kind and lovely. Your love of all those things and your gratefulness for the gifts is so wonderful to watch. Keep the childlike joy you have.
Hi Joel, I love old postcards from the early 1900s. Very cool gifts. I need the Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm since that’s my name. The Peter rabbit music book is a real find!💜🙂🎃🍁🍂

So do you mean there are now ten blood types - A, B, AB, O, and now GAY, not to forget RH - and RH + for each type?
1:05 So, if one is gay and identifies as polyamorous, the blood becomes impure?
I am not allowed to give blood due to the fact that I had Hepatitis B and even though I cannot get it myself anymore, I am a carrier and can pass it along.
It's not boarding to see you open gifts cause it shows us your likes and dislikes . ❤ From Maine USA. 🎉
What's your blood type, Joel?
BTW Well done on your blood contributions.
Great video, Joel! Such thoughtful gifts!!!
