You are correct about the veteran choir adding a whole lot of extra oomph to the song. They are singing about themselves! How could anyone possibly beat that.
The most touching part is "hoivatkaa, kohta poissa on veljet"... they won't be among us long time anymore, they are getting old! Respect and much love to each and every one of them.
I cry everytime I hear this. The veterans are asking not to forget. They are singing ”soon the brothers will be gone” as in the veterans who fought for our independence, the ones singing here.

These are veterans who ask that their country’s struggles and that these veterans’ struggles and patriotism be remembered. It is a profoundly but quietly patriotic song. As a child I knew some of these men.
Those men are the ones who fought 1939-1945 for Finlands independence. Video is 12 years old. Amount of living veterans is about 3500 today and they are +- 100 years old. So there will not be them left long anymore. So we need to take care of them and keep their memory alive. You are young american so I wont judge you, but if a finnish youngster would speak about "grown ass men" in this place I'd let them know about respect.
It's slang, so it's not necessarily meant to be disrespectful. Especially in this situation he wasn't being disrespectful at all. Such an amazing song tho. I get emotional every time I hear this
always strikes me. the song always gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. At the same time knowing that I may soon be at war. brings them respect and duty
This is about remembering them giving their lives for our existence and how they are passing this duty for the younger generations (while young take care of them now own). There is rarely any praising, battle glory or triumph in Finnish patriotic songs. It's mostly pain that lines with "Sisu", a stoic determination and tenacity of purpose.
I'm very pleased that you have such a high interest about Finnish history....maybe you Will learn The language some Day...😁 All The best for you in The future also...👍😁🇫🇮🇺🇲 Luv your videos a lot. 👍💖
It is a tradition to sing this song at the funeral of veterans. My grandfather was a vet of the continuation war and in his funeral, the veteran's choir came to sing this song. That is how I got to know this song and that is why I will always remember it. To see the respect and love from his brothers-at-arms singing this song, to send his soul to the afterlife, was such a moving experience to me. I have done my time to serve in our defense forces, but this song reminded me of the purpose of all of it. Rest in peace, Jaakko-vaari (vaari is grandpa in some of Finnish dialects)...
Thank you. I wish you do another reaction on Finlandia in a few years when you are better in touch with Finland and "in it". Keep your good work up dude,
there is actually a version of this where a veteran sings with some new recruits in an army uniform that's the 2nd most beatiful version I've seen of this song, not to say that there would be a bad version of this, I kinda wish now that I recorded I my grandfather (who was a veteran himself, left to war on his 18th birthday) singing this at one of the last times I saw him, I have never thought him as much of a singer but damn the voice he dug out for that was just somethng else, Its been almost 15 years since that day and I still can't hear this song without tearing like crazy...
Is this the video you mentioned? ruclips.net/video/gxHQqeQsQ3w/видео.html This performance speaks especially to the lyrics of the song: ruclips.net/video/gxHQqeQsQ3w/видео.html
You should react to some finnish Iskelmä music, and Suomirock, or Suomipop... They are type of music that don't really exist anywhere else in the world.. Yes, rock and pop exist everywhere, but they are not the same thing really.. You will understand what I mean, when you hear some. They are really catchy songs too.. This type of music was all over the radio for like half a century... It embodies the finnish melancolic vide. There are thousands and thousands of artists, with even more thousands of songs of it. It has been strong here for a looooong time.
Thank you heroes! 🫡 🇫🇮 Broud to be Finn 🇫🇮 The parents, grandparents or great-grandparents of all of us Finns fought in the winter war. The whole nation together, there were so few of us that everyone had to participate. Eventually even the children. "Isoviha" of the 18th century was not to be repeated. At that "Isoviha" time, the Russians killed a large part of the Finns and kidnapped more than 30,000 children who were never found. So in the winter war the Finns knew what will happen if the soviet union gets through. There were no options. And still isn't.
Knowing what they sing is what makes it more powerful, literally first chorus by "main" singer: -Aurinko laskenut o-on *Sun has settled -Kutsu jo soi iltahuudon *The order/call is already called of the night -Taakka jo laskettu on *Weight has put down already -Tahtoa muista sä silloin *Will(power) you will remember so -Askel jo uupunut o-on *Step was exhausted already -Lapsemme ja lapsemme lapset *(our) children and their children -Teidän jo vuoronne on *its your turn now That's just first chorus. If someone disagrees in my translations, see comments.. And the choir chorus is "Remember those(who died) and remember brotherhood and remember how expensive our land is"
Last time you did Patriotic Songs I was kinda dissaponted this version wasn't included... If you really want to go Patriotic, Sibelius Finlandia and Finlandia-hymni. BUT. Since you enjoyed Polkka so much, I would really Really like to see you react Ievan Polkka. Not Levan, ievan with capitol i. Compare Loituma, Korpiklaani and Slack Bird versions. All are pure gold and all are completelly different And edit... Lasse Mårtenson Myrskyluodon Maija is absolute gem too
The solo singer was born in the beginning of continuition war and those older men were last remaining veterans of Finland. I dont remember the exact number of those veterans but it was something around 2000. Also those who play the orchestra are finnish navy band. I like the way they have combined the veterans and the generation born during the wars and also the younger generation aswell.
My grand mother is 99 years old vidow in northern finland his husband was a veteran what a nightmare his sons have died before her im careretaker of her last son and we are visiting norther finland only couple months a year it takes toll to my mental health veaving herhand behind maple leaves that are frontof her balcony and you know it already time to go back south when you are north in summer abd mid summer is over you can feel almost gravity shift wind is diffirent and sun dosent warm anymore and then when you last night saw sunset next day you havetorun after sun like100 meter to see sun setting exactly same time
And to put in to consideration, the saddest thing about this, is that most of these singers (which there are like 1 thousand, less, more don't really know the correct number, but) most of them, have passed away. Since this was recorded 10 years ago, there are only a few Finnish veterans still alive, or any WW2 veteran for that matter. And those who are still alive were probably inlisted in the army when they were like 18 or 17 but they are still 90+ years old by now. Honestly, whenever you have a history lesson in school about war, or in any topic for that matter, just remember, these people did fight for you to be in that class, so never forget. 🫡
Hole Finnish nation took a part in the winter war. So all Finn's are children or grandchildren of some Finnish winter war soldier. That makes this country so patriotic and one family. 🇫🇮

Technically (US) Americans could have avoided both the world wars, especially if they had been willing to ignore losing some distant overseas territories, but instead they participated in both. They did see terrible battles. Finland obviously had no choice but to fight, or become Soviet slaves, but the Americans had a choice not to, yet they still fought. It took them a while to get moving, but you can hardly blame them for that. At least I can respect that. I also really respect the fact the USA never declared a war on Finland, despite Stalin's whining. The UK did declare, for example. The Americans understood Finland had no choice but to seek help from wherever help was available, even if it was the horrible Nazi-Germany.
I would imagine that native Americans would have different opinion about not having to fight a terrible war. They could tell about loosing a war against invaders and having just some fragments left of their nations.
It is hard to understand, what they went trough. My Grandad and my Dad fought then... Both died. I was still in my moms belly then... So Respect what they gave to Findland!
These guys aren't veterans mostly, but their sons. The veterans are mostly so old already. Some might be there but these are their "kids" honouring their fathers mostly.
Ilta-huuto (literally evening call) regular translation in military terminology: evening muster. "song" is not a good translation indeed. Especially if you are touched by military one way or the other. The meaning of evening here may be seen as a reference to the evening of our veterans lifes perhaps.... so it is significant to understand the vibes in which this is ment to be understood.
Winter and Continual war were expensive to Finland, but we made it! Even we had to pay to Soviet Union sotakorvaus( I don't know English term and if I remember right sum was over 3 000 000 sotakorvausdollaria). And those who escaped war from Carelia their new homes cost at least same! But like I said we payd all that and it took many years before it was paid! So now in future Russians know they don't change to lose war in Ukraine only damage what they blow up caused to using water is over 4 000 000 000 euros plus everything Else on top! And sorry bad English!
I dont know why you chose that video, but personally i like this version more. Child choir gives it even more depth. ruclips.net/video/gxHQqeQsQ3w/видео.html
Have you watched the unknown soldier? Hardly :D Watch and learn. The Yankees can never, ever have the same guts that the Finns have. We will pull to the end if necessary. Don't even mention Sweden in your words because they don't know what winter war is or protecting their own country. You learned and have learned here the everyday life of winter warfare. For Finns, war is not a joke or a threat. The Finns will stand in line if necessary, and you and NATO are not needed for that. The best country ever
yea every country have these ultra-patriotic songs ... just a suggestion but how about concentrating on the gendre things that are specific to finland. no dissin if you really enjoy random old songs tho. you go girl!

I know it's different for them. That's part of why I wanted to tell him 🙂 Also I don't know if he knows the actual lyrics of the song.
Yes, it's more of a reminder why that should never happen again.
Exact.

Down to the shore of a dim bay
The sun has set from its path
Sound of the evening call rings out
Burden's been laid down to rest
Then should you remember your father
His step has grown tired
Children and our grandchildren
Now it is your turn
Care for them, soon the brothers will be gone
Remember them, to them this land is dear
Spread the word to your grandchildren in song
Never must their memories fade away
Hymn echoes quietly in the crypt
Darkly sounding its longing
Time has harvested its crops
Where the fields were tilled
Once we marched side by side
With the sky and the earth on fire
From the shores of the bay of Ääninen
To whom can the stories be told?
Care for them, soon the brothers will be gone
Remember them, to them this land is dear
Spread the word to your grandchildren in song
Never must their memories fade away
The might of the waves of Ladoga
Can be chained by no one
Its shores once guarded by brothers
Soon a new morning will dawn
Proudly the tribes of Karelia
Have borne and carried their pain
Mother Earth's embrace now protects them
As the last sentinel is now gone
Care for them, soon the brothers will be gone
Remember them, to them this land is dear
Spread the word to your grandchildren in song
Never must their memories fade away
Shepherd of Earth and Heaven
Is our safety, our shield
Greatest of all is His mercy
Great and unfathomable
The Sun, the Moon and the stars
Hills and the blossoming earth
All is under His good grace
And none shall be lost
Once again, sing for the glory of Lord
Behold, how beautiful is this land
Give thanks, for Lord will carry us
Even when the last bells shall toll
Touch the Lord with your gaze
When things seem to be dark
Your mercy in dawn and in dusk
Will be irreplaceable to us
Quietly we travel the path
Among the shadowy earth
Far above with our Lord
Can I gaze upon your face
Once again, sing for the glory of Lord
Behold, how beautiful is this land
Give thanks, for Lord will carry us
Even when the last bells shall toll

Tell the grandchildren by songs
May the memory never dim
The chaperone of earth and heaven
Is our safety, our shield
His mercy is incredibly great
Great and unfathomable
The Sun, the Moon and the stars
The hillocks and the blossoming ground
He takes care of everything
No one may get lost
Sing the glory of Lord again
Look how beautiful the earth is
Thank, the Lord will carry, fostering
Even when the bells will plonk
Touch the Lord with a look
When you're having difficult time
Your grace, in the mornings and the evenings
Is priceless for us
We're walking along the path silently
In the valleys of the shadowy earth
Up there, by our Creator
I may see your face
Sing the glory of Lord again
Look how beautiful the earth is
Thank, the Lord will carry, fostering
Even when the bells will plonk
Corn? You mean grain?
@@Redfizh you mean redfish 🤣 you found that one and only failure 👐
These are veterans who ask that their country’s struggles and that these veterans’ struggles and patriotism be remembered. It is a profoundly but quietly patriotic song. As a child I knew some of these men.
huge appreciation to you for respecting our roots and our veterans that kept us like we are!
We remember.
My father and his 5 brothers went to winter war 1939... God bless Finland!!!
The Leader is Finnish Opera Singer. Never seen so much Finnish medals together!
This is my mother fav song and she wants it played at her funeral.
Thank you for your kind words about this song,
-Guy from Finland
I'm very pleased that you have such a high interest about Finnish history....maybe you Will learn The language some Day...😁 All The best for you in The future also...👍😁🇫🇮🇺🇲 Luv your videos a lot. 👍💖
This is the version we played in my grand fathers funeral who was a veteran who wounded in the war
My Grandfarher was one of those. The Medals they hold, each have a Story. Eläköön Suomi!
Just crying of pride❤
I think this song has risen to silver position of patriotic songs after Finlandia. They both bring tears in my eyesvand strength to my mind
no other music can beat this banger
You should react to some finnish Iskelmä music, and Suomirock, or Suomipop... They are type of music that don't really exist anywhere else in the world.. Yes, rock and pop exist everywhere, but they are not the same thing really.. You will understand what I mean, when you hear some. They are really catchy songs too.. This type of music was all over the radio for like half a century... It embodies the finnish melancolic vide. There are thousands and thousands of artists, with even more thousands of songs of it. It has been strong here for a looooong time.
Have you seen Tuntematon Sotilas (2017) version? (The Unknown Soldier)
Im crying everytime I hear this song.. Hello from Finland 🤝
17--25 years, they were young, in their Time.
Thank you heroes! 🫡 🇫🇮 Broud to be Finn 🇫🇮
The parents, grandparents or great-grandparents of all of us Finns fought in the winter war.
God bless Suomi/Finland!
I wish you had the lyrics with this. It's really all about that.
I couldn't be more grateful to these legends and my grandfathers who fought in ww2.
Look at the vast of the men and the medals. Whow!
❤❤❤Upeeta kiitos paljon, minun isä taisteli sodassa, koko sodan..
In the middle of wiping my tears ad pops up😂
Laulu on kiitos sotaveteraaneille, jotka taistelivat suurta Neuvosto -armeijan ylivoimaa vastaan. Näin Suomi säilytti itsenäisyytensä. 🇫🇮
Knowing what they sing is what makes it more powerful, literally first chorus by "main" singer:
-Aurinko laskenut o-on
*Sun has settled
-Kutsu jo soi iltahuudon
*The order/call is already called of the night
-Taakka jo laskettu on
*Weight has put down already
-Tahtoa muista sä silloin
*Will(power) you will remember so
-Askel jo uupunut o-on
*Step was exhausted already
-Lapsemme ja lapsemme lapset
*(our) children and their children
-Teidän jo vuoronne on
*its your turn now
That's just first chorus. If someone disagrees in my translations, see comments..
And the choir chorus is "Remember those(who died) and remember brotherhood and remember how expensive our land is"
I cry everytime when i'm hear taht🇫🇮❤
Last time you did Patriotic Songs I was kinda dissaponted this version wasn't included... If you really want to go Patriotic, Sibelius Finlandia and Finlandia-hymni. BUT. Since you enjoyed Polkka so much, I would really Really like to see you react Ievan Polkka. Not Levan, ievan with capitol i. Compare Loituma, Korpiklaani and Slack Bird versions. All are pure gold and all are completelly different
And edit...
Grown ass men sacrified their youth for us . Ty on that 😢. Lead singer is godlike ❤ . Life continues on grandchildren.
My grand mother is 99 years old vidow in northern finland his husband was a veteran what a nightmare his sons have died before her im careretaker of her last son and we are visiting norther finland only couple months a year it takes toll to my mental health veaving herhand behind maple leaves that are frontof her balcony and you know it already time to go back south when you are north in summer abd mid summer is over you can feel almost gravity shift wind is diffirent and sun dosent warm anymore and then when you last night saw sunset next day you havetorun after sun like100 meter to see sun setting exactly same time
Tears, and love to the Finnish people.
Name of this song is Night call of veteran. This song/hymn is about old veterans hoping to be remered. All the singers in the choir are real veterans.
It is for true the men who survived ww2 and the winter 8:06 war
❤❤❤Upeeta kiitos paljon
hello,you seems like a good guy,thump up
Sota veteraanit laulaa
❤❤❤❤
One time they where Young like you! And they went! Agaist Russia...
THe same singer sung this song in the funeral of former President Koivisto, veteran of WW2, according to his wishes.
Hits harder than your father's belt.
Hole Finnish nation took a part in the winter war. So all Finn's are children or grandchildren of some Finnish winter war soldier. That makes this country so patriotic and one family. 🇫🇮
My dad was war year -39-45 worldwar and winterwar finland/russian.
❤❤❤ Kiitos
Lyrics are easy to find: in Finnish
: Rannalle himmeän lahden
Aurinko laskenut on
Kutsu jo soi iltahuudon
Taakka jo laskettu on
Taattoa muista sä silloin
Askel jo uupunut on
Lapset ja lastemme lapset
Teidän nyt vuoronne on
Hoivatkaa, kohta poissa on veljet
Muistakaa, heille kallis ol' maa
Kertokaa lasten lapsille lauluin
Himmetä ei muistot koskaan saa
Hymni soi holvissa hiljaa
Tummana kaipuuta soi
Aika on korjannut viljaa
Sarka jo kynnetty on
Ammoin me marssimme kahden
Tulta löi taivas ja maa
Rannoilta Äänisen lahden
Kelle nyt kertoa saa
Hoivatkaa, kohta poissa on veljet
Muistakaa, heille kallis ol' maa
Kertokaa lasten lapsille lauluin
Himmetä ei muistot koskaan saa
Laineissa Laatokan mahti
Kahlita kenkään ei voi
Veljet sen rantoja vahti
Konsa on koittava koi
Ylväänä Karjalan heimo
Tuskaansa kantanut on
Maa-äiti suojaansa sulkee
Vartija poissa jo on
Hoivatkaa, kohta poissa on veljet
Muistakaa, heille kallis ol' maa
Kertokaa lasten lapsille lauluin
Himmetä ei muistot koskaan saa I

On the shore of a dim bay
The sun has set
The call is already ringing the bell
The burden has already been calculated
I'm sure you'll remember then
The step is already exhausted
Children and our children's children
Now it's your turn
Take care, the brothers will soon be gone
Remember, the country is dear to them
Tell the children's children in songs
Memories never fade
The anthem played quietly in the vault
In the dark, longing rings
Time has reaped the harvest
The field has already been plowed
Ammoin /* thereabout/ we march two
Fire struck heaven and earth
From the beaches of Ääninen Bay
Who can I tell now?
Take care, the brothers will soon be gone
Remember, the country is dear to them
Tell the children's children in songs
Memories never fade
The power of Ladoga in the waves
You can't even tie a shoe(* You can´t chain it´s power)
Brothers guarded its shores
Konsa is a moth* (since the morning is coming)
The proud tribe of Karelia
He has borne his pain
Mother Earth closes her shelter
The guard is already gone
Take care, the brothers will soon be gone
Remember, the country is dear to them
Tell the children's children in songs
Memories never fade
Some simple corrections made by me... with *.
"taakka jo laskettu on alas"??
Kiitos paljon sinulle sinne
Think: All those Men served WW2 to give me and you Finland. May they rest their souls.
FOR THE GLORY OF FINLAND!!!
Actually, Finns had to fight a terrible war for their land, not the Americans.
Point taken
@@herrakaarme Without Americans in (both) WWs, Europe would have fallen into tyranny.
@@AndyGrouch Without Europe Americans would not exist....
It is hard to understand, what they went trough. My Grandad and my Dad fought then... Both died. I was still in my moms belly then... So Respect what they gave to Findland!
Finland fought a war against the Soviet Union. War veterans sing in the choir.
My grandfather died defending Finland 1941 only 31 years old.
I’m sorry 😞
Take care.. soon are gone the brothers... remember, the land is charised for us
Tell our grandkids with songs.. the memory cant never fade away
❤❤❤❤
I'm proud of the finnish army it's SISU❤❤❤

But - they dont flash it everyday.
These are the guys that did the last round. Not it is us if there is a need for a protection.
With all those men, and medals, sad to say but thousands russians were killed. For us. Thanking both my grandfarthers! We remember.
Se on jo iso kunnioitus sinulta Suomelle, että teit tämän videon❤

Minun isä oli sodassa 7 vuotta ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
You should look up the lyrics and translation for that song.
Those men sing about Finnish, that there is Finland today. And what they did, they killed soviets on sight.
And we do it again.
It would help if you have words in English, that way you would understand what it is really about. 😉
My grandfathers had to fight in the war, but I prefer modern music !
Fight for Finland and we all know who against whe are battlle. Country that lives old times and dont live this Time.
🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮❤️
These guys aren't veterans mostly, but their sons. The veterans are mostly so old already. Some might be there but these are their "kids" honouring their fathers mostly.
Perkele
Ilta-huuto (literally evening call) regular translation in military terminology: evening muster.
"song" is not a good translation indeed. Especially if you are touched by military one way or the other.
The meaning of evening here may be seen as a reference to the evening of our veterans lifes perhaps.... so it is significant to understand the vibes in which this is ment to be understood.
sisu
Winter and Continual war were expensive to Finland, but we made it! Even we had to pay to Soviet Union sotakorvaus( I don't know English term and if I remember right sum was over 3 000 000 sotakorvausdollaria). And those who escaped war from Carelia their new homes cost at least same! But like I said we payd all that and it took many years before it was paid! So now in future Russians know they don't change to lose war in Ukraine only damage what they blow up caused to using water is over 4 000 000 000 euros plus everything Else on top! And sorry bad English!
Try a finnish sauna💪😎💪
he already has a video about it
I dont know why you chose that video, but personally i like this version more. Child choir gives it even more depth.

They were Boys 17-
Have you watched the unknown soldier? Hardly :D Watch and learn. The Yankees can never, ever have the same guts that the Finns have. We will pull to the end if necessary. Don't even mention Sweden in your words because they don't know what winter war is or protecting their own country. You learned and have learned here the everyday life of winter warfare. For Finns, war is not a joke or a threat. The Finns will stand in line if necessary, and you and NATO are not needed for that. The best country ever
To put it fair last time our western neighbour Sweden was in war, it was in 1808-1809.
Most patriotic finnish music I know is from Goatmoon. Might check them out of that's your kind of tune
Come on dude, they are nazis. Nothing patriotic about that.
Finnish history is not nice.
I wouldn't say so. A lot of other countries have much worse histories.
yea every country have these ultra-patriotic songs ... just a suggestion but how about concentrating on the gendre things that are specific to finland.
no dissin if you really enjoy random old songs tho. you go girl!
