Jeez, it's amazing how many of these episodes I remember! The bit about the dead dog was among my favorites. I don't even like cars, I think they're smelly, obnoxious, evil things, but I love Tom and Ray!
Here’s something funny. I never listen to this show while I’m driving because I think my car might hear what they’re talking about & something might break.
@1:25:00 I think, possibly what happened is, after he was "cleaning the mud chiggers out the fuel line", he may have reconnected one of the lines backwards. They asked if anyone removed the tank. If he was cleaning "mud chiggers" out of the fuel line, he must have disconnected one of the fuel lines. Possibly dropped the tank, or just disconnected the lines.
They talked about it again at around 1:10:00. They joked "Does this explain why there are no forests in Europe anymore?" The reason there are no forests in Europe anymore is because when gunpowder was first invented. They needed Potassium to make the gun powder. They made it by burning hard wood trees. They burned the hard wood. Then boiled the ash. This resulted in Pot Ash. Which they called pot ash ium, or Potassium. Then they had some huge wars in Europe. The hundred years war had early artillery and things but mostly they were still using swords and longbows. By the 30 Years War and the Seven Years War they were mass producing gun powder. They had a bunch of smaller wars going on for hundreds of years. Then the Napoleonic wars started. By this time they had chopped down all the forests just to burn to make ashes to make gun powder. In 1807, five years after the Napoleonic Wars started, people figured out they could mine potassium from the ground. The first Potassium mine started production in 1861 in Staßfurt Germany. By this time, most of the forests in Europe had already been burned to make pot ash.
They also used the wood gas to train tank drivers. They had some old outdated tanks modified to run off wood gas. They used these only to train new tank drivers.
Cédric, Thank you for taking the time to edit out all the ads, jokes, stories, puzzlers, and other filler. I love listening to just the mechanical questions and answers.
Hey Cedric. Do you know how many episodes there were over the years, and what percentage are available to hear? Or will be?

You can still download 1 episode a week through the podcast app. They are not 50 min stuff anymore, they are 30 min or so now. I still download them every week. I don't really know how many they did over the years in total. I looked to see how many, but sadly I couldn't find any information on that.
@ The older brother died in 2012. So the show ended. NPR is still on the air. Just not a lot of good shows IMO. But there never were a lot of good shows IMO. I listened to Car Talk on Sunday if I was driving at 1pm. They have other shows which occasionally have an interesting topic. I can only listen to so many shows about straight white men being the cause of all the world's evil.
Don't like Npr. But used to listen to the car guys on Saturday while I was at work. Miss those guys because they were funny and have knowledge about cars and life. Not like eft wing political bs speed out just like the BBC.So sad. limousine. Liberals. The downfall of this country.
Has anyone else ever noticed that the world was a wee bit brighter when these guys were on the air?
I listen to these videos while at work. Its so comforting. btw, I will gladly be your cub...
Hell yeah sister
tearin down the road in my peterbuilt made life so much simpler
Yes
It’s the same for me - I listen every Saturday morning & im smiling all day
Yes. Things were definitely brighter when they were on the air. But... I was in my 20s and 30s when they were on the air.
I love these guys! I miss Tom.

@@BrettonFerguson Oh wow never knew potassium's etymology. Fascinating stuff.

What happened to NPR?
Don't really know, did something happened, they are still around I think, the CarTalk might have moved though.
