    When I was a kid they set one of those up near my house. My mom said a traffic signal would be good at the nearby intersection so every afternoon we'd jumped up and down on the hose for like half an hour. This was in the 1960s so I doubt they could tell that 400 of the daily 450 cars passed just after school let out. They put up the traffic signal.

    Thanks for this, I used it as a template to count cars!! I added an LCD display to count it out rather than a wifi, and it works beautifully. Well, it doesn't look as nice as yours, lol, but it works!! Thanks again!

    Amazing project, congratulations, i have a question though, does this pneumatic sensor work when a car slowly passes by?, i'm looking for a solution to detect a parked car in a parking lot so cars might be passing very slowly on the tube and the pressure might not be registered

      Martín Medina Nualart
      Hey Martin.
      Have you found a solution yet?
      I did traffic signals for over 15 years.
      A solution I used to tell an ice cream vendor when a vehicle pulled up to the window was a loop.
      A loop is a metal detector mounted into the ground.
      These loops are used at traffic signal intersections to tell the CPU controller when cars are at the side streets, or in a left turn lane.
      They are also used for counts.
      These loops are basically a 6 X 6 square groove cut into the pavement, then filled with 2 passes of 14 gage wire,
      then sealed with hot tar or loop sealant.
      The ends of the wires are then connected to a detector, which is basically a metal detector.
      At some intersections, we set the detection sensitive enough to detect bicycles.
      If a vehicle was parked over a loop all night, you would get a steady "CALL" until the vehicle moved.

    If
    At the same time 2 or more number of person passes through the sensor's tube ...then this project will not give correct reading!
    And in case of of four wheeler what will be the reading!

    Very interesting ! Do you think it could be used for heavier traffic (cars, trucks) and get differentiated data for bikes, cars and trucks?

    Fantastic project, well done! I'm building a pneumatic musical instrument and the design I'm considering is similar to what you've built but instead of counting bikes, I'm using each passing bike to trigger a piston to fire and hit an instrument. Bike music! Do you consult? I could use your assistance if possible and am happy to pay a reasonable consulting fee

    Hi. May I know how much pressure was being generated by the heaviest car? Should a sensor with a limit of taking 10k Pascal be enough to handle it?

    I've been searching for things like this. Can this be used on a "normal" roads, with cars/trucks? I think it depends more on the hose, right? What about logging the data into internal memory and tehn export it to the pc?

    Hi Kris, Congrats on a wonderful project. I'm looking to do similar, but as a Solar Power wireless 433 MHz remote controlled door chime when visitors come up the driveway. I've tried PIR and radar microwave but unfortunately both are susceptible to false triggering such as wind and sudden changes in background thermal radiation. Do you have an idea where to get suitable inexpensive tubing from for this project to tackle it from this type of sensor angle? Cheers Paul

    • @KrisTemmermanNP
      @KrisTemmermanNP  4 года назад

      I think it will work with any pvc/rubber tubing. A water hose etc will work. good luck! :)

    • @paulbellett2442
      @paulbellett2442 4 года назад

      @@KrisTemmermanNP Thanks for pointing this out, OK it then appears that the pressure level output from the tubing is not critical assuming the differential sensor has a wide input span range to work from.

    how do you make it so two tires only counts as one vehicle? Shouldn't it count one per tire?

    • @fadikh4027
      @fadikh4027 6 лет назад

      He's probably playing on the timing where two close activations are counted one. This would mean that more than one bike crossing at the same time would be counted as one as well. But overall, the idea is brilliant and the errors due to the timing would be very limited i guess.

      Hey there Tyler, did you end up making the alarm for your class? I'm doing something similar to your project. I'm using the bike counter to trigger a piston that hit's an instrument. Curious what you came up with. happy to share notes.

    Hello +Kris
    Thanks for this video! Just what I was looking for!
    I know this is very simple to make but I'm new to this world of DIY,
    Do you have any details about what you do later? How do you enable it wirelessly, solder what to where, which Adruino Uno board and the prices of each component? I'm going to buy them and your price approximation will help me know I'm not being cheated.
    I really really will appreciate your time in replying to me. Thanks

    This is a great project. Thanks for sharing it. I have a question, what would be the best way to have the Arduino store the data that can be viewed later instead of real time monitoring? I envision a running text file on the SD card.. something like that?
