That was a great interview, really got Dan to relax and reveal. Never saw Paul's channel before, but I follow Dan and Qiang Hui. But jeez, Paul has a lot of cranky rude trolls.
Do as I do guy - ignore the trolls , seemingly they are jealous of Paul's success and popularity. I call them bottom feeders or ambulance chasers. They hope to lessen Paul's subscribers / viewers and steal them. Once you have Old Dog, he's a keeper!
That's a nice way to put it. I started on the internet in '93 with AOL and I learned quickly that everyone is a keyboard warrior with no threat back. Life's too short to be critical of others/yourself.

No kidding. You guys are two of my favourite vloggers! Have been following you both separately for a number of years now. So cool when the moon and the stars line up and two guys like you get together and mesh so smoothly. So fun to watch. Thanks Dan for sharing earlier parts of your life I wasn't aware of.
I agree and equally appreciative of learning of his early exploits. I admire his decisions to pull the trigger at an earlier stage of his life rather then procrastinate like most of us old dudes. He and Paul wake each day with hope and adventure.
@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 I appreciate, admire and respect others who share many of the sensibilities, principles, morals and ethics. More in the past than now ( sadly ) the concept of INTEGRITY is how a man was viewed. I can relate to you Paul because you seem to possess all of the above in a sense that is relative to most. This is strange for me. I watched Dan’s channel regularly and started traveling to the countries that looked interesting 5 years ago and started watching Paul’s channel about a year before moving here to Valencia.
@vagabondawake great info/story. All the power is in the curve balls and wrinkles of life. Great simple questions, Paul Old Dog!! I find the origin and path to glory stories, because they show the obstacles and thought process, are incredibly valuable.
In Dumaguete, a lively place to be, Lived an old expat named Paul, full of glee. He dreamed of fame, a life that’s grand, As a runway model, strutting through the land. Paul I love your channel!! Man you crack me the hell up!! You should have been a comedian!! Keep up the great work I always look forward to your straight talk and no nonsemse approach!! Keep 'em coming I will be watching!!
Hi Paul, Mark here again I was able to Watch both video's and it was like looking in a mirror . I've always said if you're looking for answers just look in any mirror . You have done it and still have the t-shirt. Keep up with keeping it real. Baby Mae is a one in a million or maybe 2.:)
I loved this interview! I’ve been following Dan’s RUclips channel for several years now. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dan, a while back, to talk about visas in Thailand which, as Dan said, can be complicated. I left the US for Thailand in 2017. I visited the US last month but have no intentions of living there again. Dan - you managed to reveal more about yourself and your life observations and philosophy than I’ve heard before. It was great to hear about this in more depth.
Hey, this is for Dan. I just viewed one of your videos where you interviewed a expat via phone 3 yrs ago. I initially found common ground with him when I 1st. arrived here in the islands. I ventured out and spent nearly 4 days at considerable expense, in hopes to break bread with him. Once I got to his meet & greet ( late) the only contact I had with him was a brief handshake and a photo to confirm to his viewers that he had a good turn out. Even in recent videos he professes to keep his women in check simply when the bedroom activity starts to wain is to just look at other women and she will straighten up real quick. I believe he has fathered 5 children total and currently 2 are in the Philippines. He is still married to a Black woman in the states that he refers to as FAT SHIRLEY and is non supportive of. He has the latest living with him with the girlfriend/mother who they call Boobie. In past videos if the child enters the room while he is vlogging, he gets impatient and summons his girlfriend. In one instance he warns his girlfriend not to get pregnant again but to service him ( he boasts) up to 5 times daily. So who is happier... the guy in the US making 100k+ sitting in his boring cubicle then going home to pay endless taxes & rising bills stressed endlessly, or Dan & Paul relaxing elsewhere? Yes, it's a trick question!

Great stuff. I just watched both of your interviews of each other and could identify with both. Paul who was from Las Vegas (who I hope to meet) who I always enjoy watching and Dan who I have met 4 times in Mexico and Bali. Both have played a large part in my inspired travels these last 3 years +. Just so very down to earth and motivating. Hoping to get to Dumaguete in the next few weeks to meet both. Such excellent interviews. Having lived in Bali for two years before now living in the Philippine I agree that Ubud Bali is hard to beat. I had two glorious montgs there in 2021 during covid. Wonderful stuff guys! I am in Mindoro island- Philppines now and it is awesome here in Puerto Galera.
That's an awesome interview and an awesome video Paul.. I've been a subscriber to vagabond awake for as long as I have subscribed to your channel and Dan and Chaing have been inspirational to me as well as you... Throughout the entire video I've have had a smile on my face through this whole interview I enjoyed every second of it‼️thank you my friends.. I truthfully say I hope to meet you all one-day soon... 🙏🏻💛🍀 p. s. I've been following both of your channel since September or October of 2018... 🎉
You're probably sickness hearing it but gotta tell you, Paul your volume was way lower than Vagabonds. I had to have it so loud to hear you. My neighbors understood though. Great collaboration! 👍🏼
Great interview Paul & Dan. I have traveled quite a bit, not as much as Dan, but I can confirm most of what he says. He took the life lessons his mother was giving him and a life for himself. Congratulations because he is now comfortable and doing what he loves best and that is what you aim to do in retirement. Best wishes to Dan and his lady. Thank you Paul for a very interesting guest and asking very good questions. Looking forward to your trip to Kuala Lumpur with Baby Mae💖
(Verse 1) In Dumaguete where the stray dogs bark, And the rooster’s crow ignites the start, There’s a magic in the air, a place to be, Where the city’s heartbeat sets us free. (Chorus) Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive, Underneath the sun, we will thrive, From the shores to the mountains high, Our spirits soar, reaching the sky. (Verse 2) Down the boulevard, the palm trees sway, As we wander through each vibrant day, Friendly faces, warm smiles so wide, In Dumaguete, love’s a constant tide. (Chorus) Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive, Underneath the sun, we will thrive, From the shores to the mountains high, Our spirits soar, reaching the sky. (Bridge) From Silliman’s halls to the old bell tower, Every corner holds a story’s power, The sound of laughter fills the streets, A symphony of life that never retreats. (Verse 3) Where the stray dogs bark and the rooster’s crow, We find solace in this charming flow, Dumaguete, a tapestry so diverse, Unveiling beauty in every verse. (Chorus) Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive, Underneath the sun, we will thrive, From the shores to the mountains high, Our spirits soar, reaching the sky. (Outro) In Dumaguete’s embrace, we find our home, United by a spirit that will never roam, Forever bound, our love will grow, In Dumaguete’s heart, we’ll always glow.
I want to be like you when I grow up... well I'm getting a late start - I was born in 1955'! Go ahead and chuckle, or I should say "" feel free to join me" for a good laugh. I'm in transition as we speak and I'm putting on my Big Boy pants and on the move. I'm now labeled a expat from the good ol' USA, California to be more specific. Watching Paul and David are inspirational and have helped me make sense of things. They've also helped me to make some gut changes that I've been on the fence about. Kudos to you both for you charitable insights that may help others.
Great vlog Paul. Dan / Vagabond Awake is a great resource of information for those who are traveling for a visit or looking to retire and relocate. Time to watch his interview with you!
Paul - Excellent Video !! I have watched Dan for years and I enjoyed hearing him in a more relaxed and unscripted environment. You 2 guys would be fun to hang out with sometime !!
WOW! Dan the truth in your story in this video is eye opening and something I, and others can relate to. I would like to here more about your back story and how it lead to your travels. And I know you’ve touched on it to Paul, but it helps me connect from the backstory and how you got to the Philippines
This was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard Dan is in Dumaguete.. I knew that they would get along very well and it would be a really great interview / talk.
I’ve found a PERFECT video/interview that really related to my life/thinking. Thanks Paul. I can’t wait to swim across the pond to Vietnam/Philippines/Thailand soon in one piece without sharks stealing my my body parts while swimming.
Hi Paul and Dan! I absolutely enjoyed this video and I hope you both will do this again when Dan comes back to visit Phillipines again. I am a big fan of both your channels 😊 I love that you both are genuine and authentic … and most importantly living a life you love 😌😊…honestly money can’t buy that…. Priceless 😊!
Excellent video - profound thoughts, most interesting. I am following both of you - in my opionion probabely the best channels about travelling and expat issues.
I saw you on Dan's channel, I liked the part about not getting anything you can't walk away from. I must say I am surprised to learn you are only 68 yrs old, you look like someone in their mid 70's at least, but you appear to be in good physical shape. Get it while you can!
Great video Paul, l have followed Dan for some time and as far as the places l have been find his videos very accurate. Bet you learnt a lot of great information that made you think Paul. There are so many places on your own back door in Negros alone that don't get a mention much.Kepp the great work up Paul and keep the Ols Dog New Tricks Alive.😀
Awsome guest. Going to his channel after this. BTW, when you mentioned at the end that dreamed of being a runway model, a not so good, but hilarious mental image popped into my head.
A little on the long side but managed to keep my attention for the duration so good video 😀 I’ve watched you both on and off (selectively) for years so it was interesting to see you interact and chat about two inspirational channels.

Chang is not just beautiful, based on her and Dan's videos, she is really kind and down to earth person.
Yes she is the epitome of a feminine woman. They compliment eachother in mind and spirit. I'd love to have them as friends.
Bold admission he was clocking back in the day
Good job moving on, many dont and end up in jail or worse

Hey, this is for Dan. I just viewed one of your videos where you interviewed a expat via phone 3 yrs ago.
I initially found common ground with him when I 1st. arrived here in the islands. I ventured out and spent nearly 4 days at considerable expense, in hopes to break bread with him. Great interview video!
Great interview. Two best vloggers on RUclips. Great chemistry.
Two beautiful humans…and my favorite expat vloggers🙏🏼❤️🌎

I really identified with the comment about becoming your real self during expatriation. I've grown to become the kind of person that I want to be. Not the kind of person others demanded I be.
Agree, that comment and few others as well made my day.❤️

Nice, Dan thought the Old Dog a new trick on how to point to the next video.
These are my two gurus. So cool to see them shootin the the sh*t together. Thanks Dan (the Man) 😎
The point relating to being able to reinvent yourself or become your true self in another country, is so understated and yet so liberating.
Sometimes you have to not overthink things just get out and explore and experience things.
(Verse 1)
In Dumaguete where the stray dogs bark,
And the rooster’s crow ignites the start,
There’s a magic in the air, a place to be,
Where the city’s heartbeat sets us free.
(Chorus)
Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive,
Underneath the sun, we will thrive,
From the shores to the mountains high,
Our spirits soar, reaching the sky.
(Verse 2)
Down the boulevard, the palm trees sway,
As we wander through each vibrant day,
Friendly faces, warm smiles so wide,
In Dumaguete, love’s a constant tide.
(Chorus)
Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive,
Underneath the sun, we will thrive,
From the shores to the mountains high,
Our spirits soar, reaching the sky.
(Bridge)
From Silliman’s halls to the old bell tower,
Every corner holds a story’s power,
The sound of laughter fills the streets,
A symphony of life that never retreats.
(Verse 3)
Where the stray dogs bark and the rooster’s crow,
We find solace in this charming flow,
Dumaguete, a tapestry so diverse,
Unveiling beauty in every verse.
(Chorus)
Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive,
Underneath the sun, we will thrive,
From the shores to the mountains high,
Our spirits soar, reaching the sky.
(Outro)
In Dumaguete’s embrace, we find our home,
United by a spirit that will never roam,
Forever bound, our love will grow,
In Dumaguete’s heart, we’ll always glow.
This is beautiful ❤
@@jle8148 glad you liked it now do a video singing it.
Dan is the man and Paul Ur awesome as well !!!
Thanks for the great interview guys!
Enjoy watching you too guys!! Have fun.
He reminds me of itchy boots riding her motorcycle around different countries.
Great vlog Paul. Dan / Vagabond Awake is a great resource of information for those who are traveling for a visit or looking to retire and relocate. Time to watch his interview with you!
Dan and Qiang some real down to earth people , met them last year up here in Pampanga

Paul - Excellent Video !! I have watched Dan for years and I enjoyed hearing him in a more relaxed and unscripted environment. You 2 guys would be fun to hang out with sometime !!

Any time!
Also, so travel heroes so thank you both for sharing!
You bet!
WOW! Dan the truth in your story in this video is eye opening and something I, and others can relate to. I would like to here more about your back story and how it lead to your travels. And I know you’ve touched on it to Paul, but it helps me connect from the backstory and how you got to the Philippines
I always enjoy Dan's channel. Good content!
This was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard Dan is in Dumaguete.. I knew that they would get along very well and it would be a really great interview / talk.

Great Video Well Done Interview I watch both of you. Paul one of your top ten videos just my opinion.

Good interview.. thanks!
Very interesting viewpoint he had and find a niche that is working well for him.
Awesome video. Dan is a interesting guy. I have watched his channel many times over the years 😊
Same here!
Dan dyes his hair, he has plenty of grey hiding!
Think and grow rich is a good book 😉
Dan looks great for 63. Pretty detailed difficult job he has
That was a very good + informative video. Vagabond Awake has a new subscriber.
Very interesting
Great video Paul, l have followed Dan for some time and as far as the places l have been find his videos very accurate. Bet you learnt a lot of great information that made you think Paul. There are so many places on your own back door in Negros alone that don't get a mention much.Kepp the great work up Paul and keep the Ols Dog New Tricks Alive.😀
Awsome guest. Going to his channel after this. BTW, when you mentioned at the end that dreamed of being a runway model, a not so good, but hilarious mental image popped into my head.
you're both runway models, i saw the wardrobe change between this vid and the one on Dan's channel. good stuff guys, thanks.
Interesting guy and very good interviu..

The ONLY reason I went to college was to collect on the GI Bill...accidentally stayed in too long and graduated. 8)
A little on the long side but managed to keep my attention for the duration so good video 😀
I’ve watched you both on and off (selectively) for years so it was interesting to see you interact and chat about two inspirational channels.
