Eddie Holman took "Hey There Lonely Girl" to the #2 spot in the US pop chart in 1970. I remember hearing it on the radio later in the seventies, but I've never seen that clip before. The contrast between his look and his falsetto singing voice is jarring at first. The song was first recorded in 1963 by Ruby and the Romantics under the title "Hey There Lonely Boy", where it broke into the top forty. Eddie Holman was more or less a one-hit wonder, but many other artists dropped wonderful soul ballads with falsetto vocals back then -- Smokey Robinson "Ooo Baby Baby", Little Anthony "Hurt So Bad", Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", Brenton Wood "I Like The Way You Love Me", Billy Stewart "Sitting In The Park", The Impressions "It's All Right" and for a little extra difference, check out Junior Murvin's reggae classics "Cool Out Son" and "Police and Thieves".

This song was originally done by Ruby & The Romantics in 1963 as "Hey There Lonely Boy". Eddie Holman did it in 1970 & switched the gender to "Hey There Lonely Girl". Both versions were hits.

Everyone was amazed by his unique voice back then. I dug it then, still do. Was a one hit wonder but a very nice song and hardly anyone gets a song so popular on the charts.
