I remember hearing this song on the radio the day it dropped and I swore she was a black woman (So much soul in her voice) UNTIL the video on Mtv hit, and I couldn't believe it lol. This was her biggest hit if i recall correctly. She almost reminded me of Jane Child who also had that soulness in her voice.
Me too...I thought she was black until I saw her on TV one day, "who is this woman, why is she here" and then she belts out this song....home girl could SANG! Years later I watched a reaction to black folk listening to the Righteous Brothers belting out "Unchained Melody" and how shook they were to find out it's a pair of white boys. Such a great song! Such a great voice! She's very underrated. Just disappointed you didn't do the version where she's in a duet with Barry White... that's ok... still love you guys. Might you want to give us some Van Morrison - Moondance?
Another song as good as this is "Break Out" by Swing Out Sister. Also, Yes to anything by Basia. Her song "How Dare You Talk To Me Like That" Is a real jam. Time and Tide is just legendary. Also, "Calling You" by Jevetta Steele is amazing.
I've been suggesting Lisa Stanfield, Basia, and Swing Out Sister for nearly a year. Also Corrine Bailey Rae and Duffy. At least we finally got Lisa. 🙂👏
Lisa Stansfield was one of a series of British soul acts described as "neo soul" - with elements of traditional soul, but a more contemporary, hip-hop influenced beat, lots of strings, etc. The group that really started it is Soul II Soul. "Back To Life" is their breakout hit. (Lisa's moment in the sun was intense but brief. But her later hit "Change" is also worth a listen.)
Love Lisa's voice, very soulful. Her other hits were All Woman, This Is The Right Time, The Real Thing, In All The Right Places, all really great songs if hers, you guys should check them out, I think you'll love them too.😎❤️👌🎶
Her 2001 Album "Face Up" was so incredible & very few people know about it! I'm a SUPER FAN of Lisa's! She did a self supported tour here in the States in 2018 & she was FANTASTIC!! LOVE! LOVE! She did a tour in 2018 that she brought to the US for the first time in ages. I saw the LA show and she was fabulous. We did the meet and greet and she was giving everybody huge hugs for the photos. She just seems like a really fun person, and is a huge talent. Shame that she didn't have more success in the US, we missed out on a lot of good music.
She always had such a unique and beautiful voice!! She did an awesome duet with Barry White that's so fun. *BASIA* "Time and Tide" is my suggestion for female Friday!! She has a similar sound. Keep smiling!! ☺️😊😁
Such a cool song. Even though it's from 1989, it has seventies touches like those violins and just the soulfulness of it. Songs from this period with a sort of similar seventies-ish feel include Soul II Soul's "Back to Life" and "Keep On Moving" from 1988 and the Brand New Heavies' "Never Stop" from 1991 and "Dream On, Dreamer" from 1994.
That beat was a signature late 80's early 90's beat. It gives me Soul to Soul - Keep on Moving,, Tom's Diner - Suzanne Vega vibes - which are great songs to react to!

A friend of mine sang backing vocals for Lisa Stansfield before she was famous. He just happened to be recording a demo with his own band in the studio at the same time. Wish I could find a copy but they'll be like rocking horse poo.

She performed at the Apollo theatre which was known for audiences booing people of the stage if they didn’t like them but she got a standing ovation. It still shocks me that she didn’t have a much more successful career.
She is an amazing talent and was a big name in British soul in the 90s. She is another artist who had the honour or performing at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Lisa performed 'Break Free' and came out in Freddie classic outfit from the music video. 👍
FINALLY! She is fabulous!!! I wish she had been more successful after this album cause she has an AMAZING voice. I will say this, the album this song is off of is BRILLIANT! The entire album is fantastic! It really is one of those albums that every song is worth listening to. I promise, anyone reading this, this album is AWESOME!

She grew up on Northern Soul that’s why she sounds the way she does, she’s from Lancashire in England, she still sings and does a lot of acting now too
Lisa is from my home city (Greater Manchester) and in these parts she is a living legend and thoroughly deserves to be. One of the best videos is of her doing a duet with the late and very great Barry White. The mutual respect they have for each other absolutely jumps out of the video. I'd love you to review that, two greats for the price of one. Keep up the great work.
Lisa kills it on the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert from April 1992, just had the 30th Anniversary show this week and is currently on the Queen Official channel. AMAZING mix of artists at the time playing with the rest of the Queen band and many other guest musicians, singers.
You will love The Jets "You Got it All", "Crush on You", Make it Real", "Rocket 2 you". They were a family group all playing instruments with the 2 lead female vocalists being 12yrs and 17 yrs old respectively. Elizabeth was 12 when the vocal track of You Got it All was done. That alone was mind blowing for that era. The only one who came close was MJ during his Jackson 5 years in the 70's. Check them out
I was living in England at the time this song was released. It was HUGE! She has a wonderful voice and can sing many genres. You must catch her live performance of Queen's "I Want to Break Free" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. It was great. At the same concert she did a duet with George Michael on "These Are the Days of Our Lives." In fact you guys would love the entire concert because it's Queen performing their songs with many of the most iconic artists from around the world - truly star studded!!!- and all as a tribute for Freddy who had only just recently died!!! It still shocks me that she didn’t have a much more successful career.
The whole world was jammin
thank you, thank you, thank you! she is an amazing talent!
Great reaction!, Lisa has an amazing voice, another amazing voice you might consider for female Friday is Jewel "Who will save your soul"
YES! YES!! YES!!! JEWEL ❣️❣️ 👍🏻😃❣️
Omg Yessss finally. I love this song. Another amazing one is Lisa Stansfield - All Woman. That song is purely amazing. The lyrics in the song are great
Lisa!!! Finally!!! She has so many more good songs that you should react to. "Mighty Love" , "You Can't Deny It", "Affection", "Sincerity", "When Are You Coming Back", "Wake Up Baby", "Change", "Time To Make You Mine", "All Woman", "A Little More Love", "Real Love". Alicia's "If I Ain't Got You" and "No One" are my favorites!
@@surlechapeau Same!!!
She grew up on Northern Soul that’s why she sounds the way she does, she’s from Lancashire in England, she still sings and does a lot of acting now too
Lisa is a STUNNING TALENT !!!!!!😮😮😊😊😮😮😮😮😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Her duet with the Great Barry White is something to behold. The "studio" video .....shear entertainment !
Amazingly talented woman
Lisa is from my home city (Greater Manchester) and in these parts she is a living legend and thoroughly deserves to be. One of the best videos is of her doing a duet with the late and very great Barry White. The mutual respect they have for each other absolutely jumps out of the video. I'd love you to review that, two greats for the price of one. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely love the version with Barry!❤❤❤
Her voice is Sultry. Also, please react to 100 Percent Pure Love by Crystal Waters.
YES!! You guys will like that!
Saw her live at a club, she is gorgeous and sounds great.
Check them out
"You Got It All" is awesome!!!
@@BillGraper Say it louder for the people in the back Bill!!!!
@@MetalMcfly I agree with Bill. Liz recording that song at 12 was nothing short of spectacular. What an amazing gift
You will love the concert! Check it out. 😁
I remember when this song came out. She has an amazing voice. Picked a good one for women day Friday And I also agree You should check out Anne Murray
Particularly the #1 hit from 1978, "You Needed Me"!!!
Also check out Jann Arden, her vocals and songwriting talent are amazing. I'd suggest the songs "Insensitive" and "Could I Be Your Girl?".
Here we go! Let's get to these winners-"You Can't Deny It", "People Hold On", "This Is The Right Time", all so good! So much great British soul music-Mica Paris, Alison Moyet, Loose Ends, 5 Star, Junior, Big Sound Authority.
"This Is The Right Time" would be another good listen.
I crushed on her so hard back in the day. What an amazing talent 👌
A new name to react to for female Friday would be 90's pop/rock Natalie Merchant with "Wonder," or "Carnival."
Or also 10,000 Maniacs "Trouble Me" which has Natalie Merchant in it.
Oh YES! Absolutely.
This song is probably her biggest success and the most well-known song of her but in no way it is her best song. She has lots of amazing, very sensual, and very intimate songs.
Honestly the first I heard her on the radio I thought she was a sister.
Me too!
@@louiseleite3866we all thought 😊
Classic Lisa! Classic, classic, classic....
Singing with Barry White was great also!
The great talented and beautiful Lisa Stansfield. I love her. Best years of my life!
