  • Welcome to ToshSelfPropelled and my first adventure in The Deuce, my Mercedes Sprinter Van. Join me (Tosh) as I explore the great outdoors, embracing the van life, fishing in picturesque waters, living off the grid and even taking a memorable ride on the iconic Chi-Cheemaun Ferry.
    In this video, I'll showcase my amazing off-grid camping experience, giving you a glimpse into the freedom and serenity that van life offers. From remote campsites to the breathtaking landscapes of the Bruce Peninsula, I'll take you along for the ride as I travel in my trusty van, affectionately named "The Deuce."
    Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature as I set up camp amidst stunning locations. I meet up with some of my extended family for a few days of fishing on the mighty Spanish River. I travel through rain and sun to find beautiful locations to explore including The Grotto, a stunning natural cave along Georgian Bay.
    Experience the excitement of riding the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry, an iconic vessel that connects Manitoulin Island to the Bruce Peninsula. As we board this incredible ship, we'll see stunning views of the water, indulge in local cuisine, and share fascinating stories about the ferry's rich history.
    Subscribe to the channel to join me and The Deuce Van as we pursue our off-grid adventures. Get inspired, learn valuable insights, and fuel your wanderlust as I embark on incredible journeys, showcasing the beauty of nature and the freedom of van life. Tosh, I enjoyed going along with you on the camper trip. Seeing all the landscape around you was nice. I’m used to lakes and streams. I’ve never seen any houses up there before. Sorry about all the fires in Canada. It’s a disaster. Praying for folks up there. The camper is great fun. Thanks. Best regards. Greg / CT USA

    I’d still be roaming around in that sporting goods store 😆
    I haven’t been in that area since the late 1980’s. Yes, I’m an old fart. We used to bear hunt out of a camp in the Espanola area. John Blake was the outfitter. He was pretty well known back then.

    Visiting old places and experiencing the spaces in time gone by is therapeutic. I love Desert Solitaire and I recognized the cover when you were reading in the van. I think a sort of book recommendation and interactive with your audience would be worthy of trading some titles by comment. Finally, I’d be interested to hear/see your trail plotted on a map if you decide to explore long term. Nothing too close of scale, just an idea of where it’s all happening... If nothing else, keeping a log for yourself will be another sentimental piece of exploratory travels and escapes in the wandering deuce. Cheers!

      Thank you. I’ll try to share a bit more of the route. If you have any reading recommendations I’d be happy to hear them.

    • @mototurkey5289
      @mototurkey5289 Год назад

      @@toshselfpropelled I’ll start with two books all fisherman should read. The Earth is Enough by Harry Middleton if you haven’t read it, I think it will change or clarify some ways you see the fishing, hunting and outdoor pursuits. Second, I recommend The River Why, by David James Duncan. It too will possibly create a space to assimilate fishing and a view of the world in ways that clarify your ethic and to appreciate your place in it. I have many more, but will hold there as two important novels for any outdoors person. Non-fiction, I lean toward Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond and Pioneer Life: or 30 years a hunter by Philip Tome. If you’re simply looking to relax and escape too deep a thought, I’d recommend either Trout Bum, or maybe Sex, Death, and Flyfishing by John Gierach. These are slanted toward fishing, but have outdoor ethic strewn throughout as you tickle the outdoor fancy while traveling and “camping” through the so-called wilderness in a van, canoe, or on foot. Best to you man!

    Very nice job sir! You shall certainly find more secluded places along your journey. I know and watching a lot of RUclips videos there are some great campsites that are marked by Travelers I believe the van can access. I know following the Epic family road trip they Mark a lot of sites over the years. Again great job and great content

    Thanks for bringing us along. I know what you mean by getting a little older and wiser. I'll be 49 next week and the last couple of years solo camping, I really lean more on the cautious side than the wild and crazy young me who would say; just do it! What's the worst that can happen?! Now not only am I more cautious but I even purchased a Garmin Inreach to bring along with me "just in case" on those longer trips. But I'm still getting out there at least.

Have you tried a Thermacel ? They work pretty well for mosquitoes. The area you were in reminds me of the Ozarks here in the states. So beautiful!
