Nineteen Eighty-Four Explained (1984) | George Orwell
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- George Orwell depicts what a world could possibly look like under an authoritarian regime in his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984), coining neologisms such as Big Brother, Thoughtcrime and Doublethink. Published in 1949, it remains highly influential in popular culture, and you have probably heard about the term Orwellian before.
However, it is often misinterpreted, especially in social media, politics, and news. The term includes the manipulative and deceptive use of language to brainwash and control the society, which is more present today than ever.

"1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual."
Seems the people who should have read it didn’t. The ones that shouldn’t have are using it as a Manuel to dominate the world.
who said that lol
Tell MAGA!!!
😂😂😂

“Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism, as I understand it.”
- GEORGE ORWELL
"as I understand it".
Dude, I am telling you these videos are amazing. I know people just say this next line, but I actually mean it. Your channel is going to blow-up one day. I haven't even heard of 1984 until this video, but the way you're describing each and every aspect, it is just addicting. Great work man, excited to see what else you make!!
Thank you so much Sean!! Makes me happy to know you enjoyed it. Appreciate your kind words a lot, it inspires me to produce more :)
Love John Hurt in the film adaptation of 1984 (the best one imo) but I wouldn''t watch the movie without finishing the book! It's just nice to see everything you've thought about in the book come to life. This was definitely a great summary of the main ideas of 1984. Don't know if its mandatory reading in High School anymore, but should be.
Yeah! Film was awesome for that exact reason. Thanks for watching!!
The film with John Hurt filmed in 1984 was good. However you *really* need to read the book as well. I have read it about 3 times. There are a lot of details in the book that don't make the film, or don't have the details that they have in the book.

That’s standard
Doubt it
For its becoming reality
Cannot have the current dumbed down proles getting ideas now can we? If they could even understand it today anyway, with the lies of racism and woke ideology in their heads, Newspeak has been more or less adopted. Double plus good.
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.
Amazing video, more relevant today than forever.
Thank you very much! Truly is.
The answer to 1984 is 1776. Very interesting book especially if you look at what's going on today. Then it becomes mind blowing.
This channel deserves way more likes. Keep up the great videos.
A lot of these things exist now especially "truth"
Very captivating video - you did a great job using b roll to help set the mood for the audio.
Thank you so much!!
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Gotta love Animal Farm!!
I re-read this last night because George Orwell blows my mind. How he knew is just crazy.
It is simply history. Totalitarianism is not a new concept. The fact that history is not really taught is also not a new concept. If you want to read about how this country has always manipulated the masses in general, try How the South Won the Civil War by Richardson.
Thank you sir for filling in the blanks for me. Wasn't going to watch the movie till I finished the book. Just finished watching it last night, and was left a little fuzzy and perplexed. Your vid helped me quite a bit.
The problem with all authoritarians.
There is something more powerful than endless war: endless disease. Nothing arouses the postmodern human being's perceived sense of false goodness more.
Came here from Einzelgänger - great video! The audio is a little boomy/roomy though, might wanna record it somewhere without so much room echo. Good luck! (We read this book at high school and watched the film too! It’s stuck with me ever since)
Appreciate you stopping by! Thank you for the tips. Highly appreciated :)
You should also read 'Prey World' by Alexander Merow. It is more connected to our present time
1984 should be read as a story about someone in our century, who tried to rebel against the system --- and failed.
It should not be treated as an atlas showing us directions and destinations.
Speak for yourself 🙏
Proud to be one of your early subscribers. Kind regards!
Thank you Brandon!! Appreciate your words
How did I just discover your channel? Amazing art work, great research and very well narratives. I need time to watch all these amazing videos😊
1984 is a serious warning for what could very well happen
Perfectly put
Thank you. Very well presented. I'm sure you will have many thousands of intelligent subscribers. All the best!
" Under the spreading Chestnut tree,
I sold you and you sold me.
There lie they, and here lie we,
Under the spreading Chestnut tree.."
🕶️🚬 ...
great video thank you
Great work 👍 , great explanation and love it all the *way*
Thanks a lot!
They are all in it together
There is not two parties
Video is very nice. Although I have few suggestions.
1st Redesign your channel logo channel art and name. Something related to your content.
2nd Don't just focus on reviews add about writers as well. Like a video on Franz kafka and his way inspiration behind his works etc etc. You can make playlists.
3rd Add info about movie adaptations of book you are explaining like 1984 have a movie adaptation.
Hi Sona. Thanks for taking the time for the suggestions! I have been thinking about redesigning my channel might do it soon. I'll eventually like to make videos on philosophers along with playlists (e.g. existentialism). Thanks for the advise, appreciate it!!. Edit: just redesigned :)
Came by to chech out the channel! Looking forward to the youtube relationship!
Joe
Thanks for stopping by! That's for sure :)
It feels like he you are describing North Korea..
america
Excellent video really interesting I finished reading the book again a few hours ago.A masterpiece
1984 is a dark and sad book
So is history which is the point of 1984
Who amongst us are no longer longer able of critical thought
Saved it to the playlist before it even started I’ve yet to come across a video of yours that isn’t top notch and so is that pillow with ur logo on it
I came to matter that year...maybe this will help explain existence
Today’s forever wars make this subject moot.
I had a dream I was someone else in another time (future). I had a boyfriend and we were sending eachother texts expressing our love for eachother and our phones were taken away and we had some kind of punishment. Everything was watched; surveillanced. Expressing love and affection in any way was not allowed.
I have had similar dystopian dreams and I really do believe I am tapping in to a possible time-line and receiving psychic insight.
Sounds like today = newspeak
LatinX, CIS, Trans pronouns, Climate Speak, Undocumented Migrants, Ministry of Truth, the recent Inflation Reduction Act and many others are examples of what Orwell wrote about.
Everyone always for some reason says 1984 is a play on National Socialist Germany but I strongly agree with that assertion... it's extremely obvious this is a dig at Stalinist era USSR and authoritative communism in general. From the work's lexicon, people's places in the party, Emmanuel Goldstein (Trotsky) to the fact that Animal Farm preceded this and was a literal critique of the leftism he once allied himself with, it's genuinely insane to me that *anyone* could see this as a critique of National Socialism.
And I'm watching him
What I can is this, NEVER let your ability to read and write go to waste! Do some reading and writing everyday. Then
Language being contorted to justify acts of abuse and brutality will not go unnoticed.
we live in orwellian times
I wish we got info on what the other 2 super states do like how do they rule over there people
Good ++
Some black people tried to "catch her in the parking lot" for a FACECRIME after one coughed on me and I cringed then she exclaimed that I'm a racist. No one asked questions, no one defended me. Just allowed them to plan harm.
So how does "Emmanuel Goldstein" play into all their hatred of him at the beginning of the movie?
The book explores it a bit more: he is just a figure for the people to hate, he might be real or use to have been real but it further shows that Ingsoc can create entire people for an end. They belittle him by faking his argument against totalitarianism(not that they would listen anyway) to ruin his reputation and the reutation of the ideologies that he was pushing.
Orwell probably had #Trotsky in mind.
Yes, he was another reference to Leon Trotsky.
The truth, shown to Winston, made to be the lie. Like today.
Dump ALL incumbents.
I knew DR PHIL is Big Brother 😂

I love how Nazi’s are first mentioned and I get it, they were monsters… but even though ORWELL was a socialist, I think the commies fit this book a lot better. At least in Germany the citizens were free. Not justifying the atrocities. But we all know about the gulags and how Soviet Russia really was, right? I’ve only watched 45 seconds of this video and had to comment. I’ll leave by saying authoritarianism and totalitarianism are a terrible thing and I hope people can see that it’s happening right now. And it’s not coming from the so called “Nazis” as anyone disagreeing with the ideologues and sheep are called. I think if you have a platform, you should be using it to spread truth but again, I’m only 45 seconds in.
No, 1984 is a perfect depiction of the USA, brainwashing everyone into thinking the communists were the bad guys to justify commiting genocide against them, as well as arresting, torturing and killing anyone suspected of being a Communist, down to making everyone afraid and hostile towards Communism to this day.
There is really no difference between the Nazis and the reality of communism. Both are totalitarian as would be the MAGA group trying to take over the US today.
I think North Korea even better fits the description 💀
You're a disrespectful scumbag.
You're the only ideologue here.
Citing lies as an argument doesn't make you correct, it makes you a liar.
"We all know" no, you don't know shit about history if you learn from american schools. "Autoritarianism" and "totalitarianism" are words only someone who believes in the americanized version of history would use.
Anti-communists are the ideologically blinded ones. They believe every lie the west tells them.
Black Book of Communism? Self-confessed liars.
Most famous North Korean "defector"? She's considered a liar by even other "defectors".
The "defector" that promoted the Iraq war? A confirmed liar.
Considering the fact that anti-communists are proven liars, it's pretty safe to dismiss every anti-communist claim as a lie.
"Criticizing" Socialism for things that might have very well never happened doesn't make Socialism bad, it makes you a scumbag.
You're just trying to find excuses to suck 3/4 of the wealth people produce and give it to lobbyists.
@@arshjotkaur The North Korea that only exists in your head, maybe.
There's a massive difference between what Socialist countries are actually like and what anti-communists say.
North Korea
Big trans/sister is watching you!

Only party and outer party members are subjected to sex or thought crime. Not the proletarian. It’s says it all in the book. Get your facts correct. You narration is just hilarious, as everything you said is already in the novel. 🟥
You seem to be very cocky about it.
Proletarians are free. They're animals to the Party, because they cannot rebel due to not having an education to even think of rebel. They believe everything they're told by the Party, because they don't have a chance because they don't know anything in life, other than being a working-class citizen. They're most likely free completely.
Everything he is saying is also true. The war is for power, and is to be continuous, in order for the people to let the Party overrule them.
Outer Party members are a known threat to the Party, and are wanted by MINILUV to be cured.
They have an education/better education enough to think, and possibly rebel/consider rebelling.
The fact that you're being sarcastic over someone explaining how the very novel functions worldwide including the other three superstates never really reaching each others borders.
That is something most people wouldn't know, since most think V-2 rockets are being used by the superstate itself which is 50/50 chance of it being true.
If you think you know something that someone else does, don't be an ass about it. No one likes smart ass attitudes
