A Day In The Life Of A 22 Year-Old Farmer

- Quiet season is upon Cornstar Farms. Quiet season consists of book work, phone calls, meetings, hauling corn, and working on equipment. This video accounts for a typical day in the life of a 22 year old farmer.
We start the video in my office, where I am working on computer projects for the farm, and for the RUclips Channel. Shortly after starting, Daddy Cornstar popped in for our morning meeting. Four hours later I was finally heading to the main heated shop. Before I started working on any projects, I give a walk-around talking about the different projects we have to do.
In this video I work on a variety of projects ranging from waxing the 1991 Case IH 7140 roof, to greasing the 2013 Magnum 340. Do not worry, there are several other things that keep me busy during the video as well.
After working in the shop for 10 hours, I decided to call it a night. Before quitting, I swept the shop, and went over what we need to do to the equipment that is still in the shop.
Thank you for watching!

Hey Cole, I have never commented on a RUclips Video before until today. But I’m so impressed with what a great young man you are, so here for the first time ever you hear from an old dump guy with a smartphone. I grew up on a dairy farm in Southwest Pennsylvania.
As a young lad, my father dug graves to supplement the family income. I’m 70 years old now, and you have helped me remember the fun time I had with my Dad. Daddy Cornstar reminds me of my own father and how much I loved him. Please tell Daddy Cornstar is the best of the best as a father. God bless you family!
That's awesome, man.
First sorry for my english! Nice soul opening words sir! I also worked much with my dad as a kid and a grown up, and after many disapointments and betreals now i dont love my father any more :( I have money and stuff but i dont have god family relasonships and that is more important...
best wishes to you!
That’s so nice
Much respect to you sir!
Onion Ninjas!
Up at 7 lol ? Hes couple hours behind already.
Quiet season for ay reason bud
Thomas P. I was about to say 7? Lol
i ws like, wait wtf :D we wake up like 4 or 3 am here :D
12 hours to clean tractors??
I do meth and don’t sleep.
Glad to see Anna is keeping a close eye on you!
Frances Bolen I think Anna is the real boss. She is humble though and just stays behind the scenes and let’s the guys think they are in charge. 😂
I think Anna is Cole's buddy! She really follows him around, it's so cute!
I agree, it looks like Cole is her human pet.
Your "quiet" season list sounds exhausting! Lol But ya'll still make time to help out a neighbor with feeding his goats! Love you guys!
Just started watching your video's a few months ago and really enjoying them. You remind me when I was a young man. I worked with my dad and grandpa we had a custom alfalfa service I can remember far back when 15 years old doing what you and your brother and dad do the only thing we were a custom service . We not only cut alfalfa we cut many kinds of grass wheat and many others. I wish I could go back to those day's. Thank you Cole for bringing some fond memories of my youth. God bless.
@Ride the Wave Yeah, equipment will still need to be maintained, but the ivory tower elites assume it will be done by hourly workers who don't own it and have no pride in the outcome. And we'll all live in high-rise rat mazes and eat factory farmed food. We may get to see grass, but we won't be allowed to dig our toes into it. And then thry will be surprised when we turn savage. I'm glad I will be dead by then.
Year around lifestyle, its best to grow up in this world

True. I never walk around my house in socks.
Very funny. I like your vlogs anyway.
I've been watching FS19 lately and this is in my recommendation 😂

You guys really seem to take good care of your equipment.. I can't imagine what you spend for oil and grease every year.
65MK you have to take care of equipment because if you don’t it will be bad
You just can't replace a good maintenance schedule. Oil and grease seems expensive, but it is cheap compared to a repair bill and the downtime while the repairs are being made.
Not as bad as you'd think, a couple thousand! Cheaper than an engine though 😉
I definitely realize you have to do this, and it's cheaper than replacing parts, motors, etc.... just a lot of people don't do that. Keep up the hard work!
Cole The Cornstar ..farmer joke.
3 prostitutes we’re getting off work for the night at the local brothel.. one said I had a firemen he brought his axe, had the big helmet and smelled like smoke. The other said I had a cop.. he had hand cuffs, a badge, and taser. The third says I had a farmer .. first he bitched it was to dry then bitched it was to wet.. then when he finally paid he asked for a free hat.
The work ethic of these boys is just ASTOUNDING! 🏆The award for BEST PARENTS goes to Mom & Dad Cornstar!!💖
And yet the sun was up and shining bright and he was just getting out of bed. My father and grandfather wouldn't think that was much of a work ethic.
Yeah, 7 is a pretty late start for a farmer. And when it’s your own business, you either work hard or see it not exist.
@@josephmc5049 7 is just fine to start. You can get alot done everyday. I eat breakfast everyday at 630. Start work at 7. And we are successful.
Love the bed hair Cole. Keep on farmin'
Love, Love, Love Miss Anna. Every farmer needs a loyal companion.
Cole you make us fellow Iowans feel good about our state!!
The things you do in one day just make my head spin. Much respect.

I love the fact that a neighbor can call on a neighbor to take care of their goats or what ever. Such big hearts, you guys are the best. Love seeing Anna wrestle with you. She is such a cutie. Snow tonight here in Washington State, in the lowlands!
You do a great job Cole! Not just on the farm, but with these videos too. I really appreciate your efforts to do all the work you do with both. Thank you for your hard work and sharing it. God Bless you and your family.
One of the most under appreciated careers in this over populated world! Thank you to all the farmers out there!
Well, you inspire me. After watching one of your great blogs, I went out and performed my 200 hour service on my Kobota 42 z122r zero turn mower. Yes, that was new spark plugs, fuel filter, oil filter, removed and sharpened my two blades and power washed the whole thing, so I am sure I worked as hard as you did today! Lol. Thanks for sharing your day. I think you must have great parents, I imagine you learned most of your mechanical and farm skills from them and your grandfather.
Mike Malone dad and grandpa were extremely handy
Glad to help motivate 😉
well Hellooooooo Cornstar Family, Ive been waiting for this all day. its always nice to get your notifications , please stay safe because your the closest thing ive got to a family and I love y'all

Anna is just so adorable. Thanks to the editing god(dess?) for showing us the playing with feisty Anna under the tractor stuff! :)
I was surprised how playfully aggressive Anna could be...yikes ..lol
Anyone who looks down on farmers as simple and unintelligent, look ar all the skills these guys have to master -- building, mechanics, agricultural science, auto detailing. That last one, I don't even wax my car like Cole waxes the roof of that tractor.
Cole, you are motivating me.
Loved that you played with Annie in there! She seems like a good girl.

You’re SUCH a doll. Keep smiling Cole! 😊
Loving Cole's hair at the beginning of the video
I love being 22 and working on the farm I could never ask for a better job
I didn’t know they made farming sim into a real thing haha crazy world
Dude do you realize that the food you eat comes from farms. Are you alright. SMH
R/Whooosh
I love that you don’t care what you look like in the morning and go on camera. It’s real. No point showering in the morning since you get dirty during the day. I do that in the summer. I’m in the lake (cabin), suntan lotion, bug spray, gardening, etc.
Seem farm work is never done, there's always jobs to do
You mean like literally every job ever?
Devin Coleman no not really farming is the hardest job in the world. It requires a huge amount of patience not only for all the seeding and plowing but like what he did in the video maintenance is a priority it has to be done or your equipment won’t last. What I’m trying to say is farming requires work on the feild and in the shop all day you barely get a break but most jobs you work 8 hours and go home. Farming is a very respectable career.
I am from india and our main business is farming and we also keep cows and buffaloes so we also have to feed them daily and we need to go 5km to get their food from our farm. Work is difficult but it comes with a satisfaction. Farmers grow food (🤩🤩)
@@devincoleman2870 Your office job has nothing compared to farming. Farmers are working pretty much 27/4.
You say you’re farmers, wrong. You are farmers, heavy duty mechanics, metal fabricators, organizers and whatever else is necessary while also being decent, loving people. Whoa! Love all you guys!
Love the bed head cole! 🥰
I had no idea what farmers do in the winter... I so respect your job!
Hey Cole, We're still keeping your grandpa in our prayers

You are so fortunate that your daddy buys you all these neat toys.
Fun fact. You didn’t search for this.
Jack stupid damn... you’re right. I clicked because he woke up at 7 and the sun was already up. What kind of farmer is this kid
We needed this tho

It's good to see you take care of your equipment.
That’s the saddest pillow I ever did see there Cole.....😢🥰💋
Michele Ramia 😂😂 I prefer a thin pillow
Cole The Cornstar agree
I'm commenting before the whole video...that blue jean quilt is awesome!! I have made them for both of my sons and my grandson. They are a lot of work, but so warm and last forever! That made me smile. Someone lives you a lot ♡
Cherie Kreusel made with love by Aunt Carrie!
@@mommacs6159 awww Aunts are the best!! I made my boys when they were pre teens, they are almost 40 and still have them.
That pillow hurts my soul! 😂🙈 ...It's long overdue to be replaced, Cole. You work incredibly hard and deserve far better support for your neck/body... oh my goodness! 😂 🛏
Heather agreed. I thought the same thing when I saw it too.
At first I didn't see a pillow at all and I figured.. Wow this guy doesn't even use a pillow 😮
And only one pillow at that!!!
I have one of "My Pillows" as seen on TV. Really has helped my sleep highly recommend!
Every honor on maintenance is a real farmer👍💪😎🚜
You guys do a great job at keeping your equipment lookin' great!!!
I think I have found my dream job which I have been looking for since my childhood. I like cars, trucks and machinery, technology, designing things, animals, nature, country homes, big ranches, old libraries and weird stuff like that. I want to immerse myself in all of these activities, and it seems clear that you can access to that kind of “privileged” living by being a farmer. Thank you for expanding my horizon, I wish you a fulfilling life.
Cole your awesome dude! Ive never farmed in my life, but i love watching your shows and i get pumped for the new vids
I used to think I wanted cement floors in all of the machine sheds. Then I got cement floors and realized I feel compelled to sweep them up all the time (and wish I had dirt floor storage). I recognize that constant sweeping quite a bit. Now you know the first place to blow out on your new beast each service!
Love the vids been watching for about a year keep up the great work Cole
Good to see that your detailed and thorough when it comes to your equipment..I'm the same..lol
You’re not just any farmer Cole, you’re an Adult Male Cornstar!
Both those case tractors look brand spanking new and it is awesome
Tons of work not enough time for it all sometimes! Hey dont know if you have a buffer when u wax the tractors but it will save u a ton of time and save your body as well! You can also use it to buff the glass just get some glass cleaner that u can squeeze onto to the buffer pad and u will knock all those windows out no time! Over the course of the year u will save so much time you will never do it by hand again! Wax on wax off ha ha!
Cole, Creator bless you and all our farmers❗ You are the future of this country and I honor that.
Your just like me Cole we both like stuff squeaky clean!
Hey cole..lov da blue jean bed cover..looks great..now I'll make one..n i totally njoy watching ur vids..thnx.✌

You inspire me to work harder! I love all you CornStars!
I saw a post just now in my fb page about a young farmer who sent a gift, a 1 kg wheel cheese, to a young lady who he dated... So decided to look for one. ❤️. Hardworking young man.,
Daddy cornstar did you have that bobcat drivers compartment secured up when you working under it? Made me nervous for a second. 👍
Dan they have Rams on them which help lift them up then normally have a catch on them which latches over once fully lifted up making them safe.then u take latch off too lower back down!!
Ok, I would still put a come along or something on it, I never trust a jack without a jack stand also. Safety first always.
I too, was nervous. Don't want anything bad to happen to Daddy Cornstar.

It's a good thing I'm sitting down while watching your videos. I would fall out from exhaustion if I wasn't. Love your hard working family.
OK bud here’s my question: how do you guys work out payroll? Like how do you each take an income from the farm? I’m not sure if there’s a way you can answer that question in a general aspect without going into personal detail or not?
It's called a family farm 4 a reason
Adam Poirier we don't really. I'm making a video about it.
For our 20k acre family farm it's pretty much any decent purchase like a car is a group decision am usually budgeted in 12 months in advance
We all have a bank card linked to the farm account
Any normal cost like dinner or anything we just take it out
Same as buying a new phone or something
Everyone is responsible enough to not buy stupid stuff
No one really has any savings but the farm has farm management deposits
That are sorta something Set up my the Australian government where we can stash away a big sum of cash on a good year and not get taxed on it, the idea being you can pull it out if you have a bad year
Or keep rolling it over
Really cool to see the row crop farming side of farming, as my family quit row cropping before I was born all I have ever know is putting up hay, love the content
love the hair, wait til you get married, roommates good practice
Good morning, good afternoon and Good night! Xx
‘Isn’t a bent shaft the worst’ that’s what she said 😂😂😂
By cleaning and greasing your machines you get familiar with them which helps when repairs are needed!

It is cute to see Anna right beside you when you are work/cleaning equipment
Even when it's sped up waxing looks tedious.

Cole The Cornstar - do you not have a variable speed grinder/polisher to do it more efficiently?
@@ColeTheCornstar Need a buffer machine! Way too much waxing to be done by hand, and would save a ton of time.
I use an electric wax/polisher and it is tedious 😂
I had to polish and wax the fastrac last spring. It took hours. But was looking great after I done it.
Very super good presentation. You are a busy young farmer. America is a stronger country with agricultural people like you and your Cornstar family producing food for the rest of us. My hat is off to you and yours. Happy New Year !!

I would like to see another day in the life of a 22 year old farmer!
When doing maintenance on the equipment and trucks, are you playing catch-up from years gone by, or is this normal year to year wear?
as a fellow farmer I can tell you maintenance is never ending. Usually try to go over everything more thoroughly in the winter months. they would not make parts if things weren't made to break.
I love Anna, Anna's hair looks better then Cole's hair......,
If your playing catch-up........I hope it's Heinz
Jesse Hires year to year stuff!
Been farming my whole life if thats all the harder it gets for u . You have it made sure dad will be there for you .
Hey Cole, i have family that live in Clarence, how far away from there are y'all?
I lived in NE Iowa for the first 22 years of my life....was not a farmer but always wanted to marry one...you guys have the neatest farms... always like to see a nice neat farmstead!!! The one thing I absolutely HATED about Iowa was the darn tornadoes...I was a communications officer and taught storm spotters. I pray for you who live in tornado alley!!!!
I wish my car looked so good .
Honest people doing honest work.
I'm curious how you all decide who does what, or do you guys just start doing what you know what needs work?
Huey you're spot on with the second part. 😇
You are the shining example of what Iowa farmers are and are sorely missing!! I’m so proud to say I’m an Iowa farm boy and couldn’t be more proud of how you represent!!! EXCELLENT JOB COLE!!!
Do you just remember everything you need to do on all the equipment or do you use some kind of "to do" app?
Wendy Kosak he’s young.... I think he still “remembers” 😂
Bet it's on a spreadsheet on his computer
We just know the common stuff that needs to be done and then find new things when we inspect it.
@@ColeTheCornstar perhaps a clipboard for each machine to let you know when greased and oil changed etc. Just a thought.
I really admire how you make the most mundane tasks seem. . . well . . . less mundane. Really, I look forward to your posts. As an old country boy I like seeing how life is different and what has stayed the same.
