I love this train!! The Silver Service is the best train ever!! Plus, You can also take the Auto Train from Sanford to Lorton! Car ride along with you.
aw man, I deal with motion sickness too, but I LOVE trains. Luckily I prep the same way with dramamine as a backup but last time I took The Silver Meteor down to Georgia I luckily didn't have any issues as long as I faced the same direction the train was moving. Looks like your trip was nice!
I travel quite a bit too. Mostly for the same reason you do, and that is to see new places. One thing I haven't done yet is take a train from city to city. That will be something I plan for the future for sure!!
Matt, Lakeland actually only has one Amtrak station. The difference is on the first stop. They drop off passengers before heading over to Tampa on the Silver Star. And then when it returns to Lakeland, after making the Tampa stop. That’s when they receive passengers before they continue on north or south.
Glad to see interior of viewliner cars. Wondered if roomettes on both sides of hallway. Seniors will need 2 Roomettes across from each other. Bunk bed(upper) is not possible for some seniors. We found this out in a empire Builder superliner RoometRoomette.
I like train travel so I'm considering taking this route (getting on at Savannah instead of Miami) instead of flying to NYC. Usually plane travel is cheaper but I'm traveling for work and the day I have to be up that way is more than the roomette is rn! Thank you for this video
And that newer view liner car is not a refurbishment. It’s a brand new car. That’s only a few years old. It is remodeled compared to the first generation where they removed the toilet by the bed and instead removed a Roomette. In favor of a public toilet at the end of the car.
Non sleeping car passengers don't sit in "economy," they sit in "coach." Also, traditional dining is MUCH different than "flexible dining." You got the crappy micro meals they offer for flexible dining, but since mid-March, they have been reintroducing traditional dining on the Silver Star train.
Strange that they've never rebuilt the Miami platform to be a high platform. There's no freight on the platform tracks, so they could do this like they did at the Tampa station.
Travels on the silver meteor☄️ four times, taking the silver meteor☄️ again in October looking forward to traditional dining, which is back finally enjoyed your video always flew down from NY but my last trip was an absolute cluster F#%^ stuck in traffic missed my flight supposedly I was denied boarding because I got there a half hour before my flight left could’ve gotten a flight into JFK but my car was parked in White Plains New York. The next flight was to White Plains was the following day so I had to get a hotel after that fiasco I decided I’m taking the train in next time which stops right into the town I was going to Winterhaven. Fl 10 minutes from my destination
Just a small correction... there are no communal bathrooms in viewliner 1 sleepers. In the newer viewliner II sleepers there are no toilets in the rooms (thankfully) but there are communal restrooms
great question: why do I travel? Because there is so much that I've never seen, and I want to see. I got the Amtrak bug last year. I took a roomette to Portland from Oakland. I loved it so much I went to Denver. I went from Austin to LA to San Jose (it was awesome). In July- I'm doing the Silver Meteor, Lake Shore Limited to Empire Builder to Alaska Ferry to Alaska Railroad.
Well said! Love the answer and loving the journey ahead for you. You should document it. Whether just for your pleasure and/or to share with others. Sounds amazing to me.
"Silver Meteor, Lake Shore Limited to Empire Builder to Alaska Ferry to Alaska Railroad" So you are doing a south to north Miami to Fairbanks trip? Fun! But why go all the way to NYC? Go north to Washington, DC and then take the Capitol Limited to Chicago if you want to save a couple of days.
@@mholtebeck OK, here are some suggestions: Take the Silver Star instead, because Amtrak has reintroduced traditional dining on that train, which will be much more enjoyable than the flexible dining that is still on the Silver Meteor (though that only matters if you are a sleeping car passenger). The arrival time in DC is also better - 3:04 pm on the Silver Star instead of 7:25 am on the Silver Meteor. Lastly, if you can swing the timing, you should try to take the Cardinal from DC to Chicago instead of the Capitol Limited because it leaves earlier and will give you more scenic views from West Virginia than the Capitol Limited will. You could save little more time by staying overnight in Alexandria, VA instead of DC, and then getting on the Cardinal there the next morning. Go to "travelswithkev" for all of the complete schedules.
@@mattsmoments2 thanks for the reply was considering taking this from Philadelphia to Miami and spending the time watching movies on the laptop. Even on trips in the NE corridor the wifi only sometimes works.
Just restore Dining Car Service to All Overnight Trains East of the Mississippi for crying out loud and teach the Snack-Car Attendants how to mix a proper Cocktail!
This was the worst experience traveling. My family of four went from Philadelphia to Miami. Both directions in coach class ( huge mistake) at times I felt like I was being punked. You couldn't find a more degenerate group of people. I'm sorry this sounds judging but it's the truth. I often times felt unsafe. People were disgusting, rude and obnoxious. It's a shame because it would have otherwise been a fun trip. NEVER AGAIN.
Amtrak definitely attracts some unique and random people. From all walks of life. I just do my thing and go with the flow. I’ve seen train jumpers, fights, and definitely rude people. On the flip side I’ve also seen dealt with calm quiet people. Sometimes the best convos have come from train rides.
Christmas of 2017 three other ladies and I went from Tampa to New York City for a three day weekend We traveled by coach and we had no trouble at all. We had an amazing time sleeping was a little iffy but again for us older ladies it was like a reverse spring break. The staff was amazing and helpful. Back then coach could still use the dining room and we had awonderful meals. I intend to go back to Florida in February but as I will be traveling by myself I will be taking a single sleeper car. I Can't wait I love the trains. @@mattsmoments2
I'm probably the only one who complains that each train trip isn't long enough, I get happy when there is a delay.
That’s one way to look at it lol
Travel is fun and gets you outside of your comfort zone and bubble
I like that answer
@@mattsmoments2 More people should and not play video games 😂 😂
Great video! Thanks for the post. Have tickets for a roomette this summer! Will be my first time.
That’s exciting. I hope you enjoy the journey. 😊

I appreciate that thank you!
Yes it sure is!! It’s the best train ever along the East coast

It definitely was thank you. Always stay ready when it comes to motion sickness. I joke it only started as I’ve gotten older lol

You definitely should. Find one with scenery you and the wife would enjoy and book a roomette or room.

Good point there. I wonder why it’s not raised like Tampa and others

I wish the roomettes weren’t so expensive
They only seem to keep getting higher and higher

There wasn’t any. A lot of long distance trains don’t have Wi-Fi. And I’m basing off of my experiences and also seeing others.
