This is the SIXTH in a series of short demakes we're creating!
Here we're taking you back in time with "Advance Effect".
Which is of course based on Mass Effect & Advance Wars. But with some big twists. Would you play this?

I'm completely stunned...getting the essence of both games perfectly is so hard. Im a fan of both games and this feels 100% authentic. The art style and animation quality is top notch....seriously guys I would buy a playable demo of this in a heartbeat...

I know it is not the same, but there is also a game called wargroove that is basically a fantasy advance wars. Though a few things are different.

@@64Bits Yes, though, I should restart it. Havent fully finished the campaign back then and it got a dlc.
I love how you now can play with 6 of the characters at once, Arguably the hardest choice in mass effect is choosing the companions xD

This is such a genius adaptation from one genre to another. I never would have thought of mass Effect as a Strategy RPG, but seeing it in practice this fits perfectly.
Honestly, take the multiplayer idea of you playing as regular soldiers righting against the reapers while Shepard is off doing the main story and turn it into something like Xcom would be awesome. It even works out with the idea of sending out 4-man squads fighting a variety of missions such as rescuing vips that can assist with building the crucible or a terror-attack style mission where you need to evacuate civilians and any that get captured are turned into husks. While doing missions, your engineers and scientists are busy working on new methods to improve your soldiers fighting capabilities and resistance to reaper indoctrination. Could be a pretty awesome crossover game for the two franchises.
@Todd Cawson "Regular soldiers" who are more hardcore than Shepard's squaddies. Good luck getting Garrus to solo Platinum.
@@KopperNeoman Well yes, some changes would have to be made to be more like xcom unless you were making more like fire emblem where each of your men is expected to slaughter quite a few men on a single mission.
Combine Element Space with XCOM: Chimera Squad, and you got a nice starting point.
Man, I hate how well you guys make these, because after it's over I realize it's not real and I can never actually play it :(

oh thats really amazing carrying over the AW interface and graphics!!
You guys absolutely knocked it out of the park! All those hints at gameplay mechanics, like the environment blocking trajectory of movements or attacks, and the battle animation terrain changing depending on where the character's standing. So good. I imagine that you could've easily made the Normandy's airstrike shadow wrap around the walls of the battlefield for a more realistic look, but chose to just uniformly slide it across, better capturing that limited style of the GBA. Amazing attention to detail.
Also, the character portraits are so freakin cute.
You even include jenkins on the roster eventhough he lasted for a min. Great job and keep it up guys ❤
Glad you took notice of that! We almost included Dr. Chakwas as well as a selectable character. But scrapped it afterwards

You really nailed down the art style, especially the character portraits! Love that the gameplay segment has some realism to it like how the player is pondering the options before making a choice, too!

Mass effect as a fire emblem style strategy works weirdly well. Like, I’d actually like to see a game like this in this setting

This is accurate beyond reality. Even the cute looks of Advance's original covers you made it right. Music, translation to isometric and turn-battle, the Mass Effect itself, you guys are geniuses. Shut-up and take my money.
This was really cool. Advance wars is such a good gba game and mass effect fits right into that style.
I remember skipping my homeworks just to play this game in 2003. Definitely much better than the 2007 remake.
This was extremely well done and I enjoyed every second of it. Took me right back to doing the Virmire mission again for the first time all those years ago. Thank you for all your hard work on this, guys! 🤩

Man. I really wish this was real. I love both franchises so much. Turning Mass Effect into a tactical turn-based strategy RPG in the style of Advance Wars would sell so freaking well.

It’s already impressive that you de-made the graphics to the Advance Wars, but on top of that the gameplay actually rocks and brings a lot of innovative possibilities for the top-down TRPG subgenre!

When I saw Kaidan's name was misspelled, I thought for sure you'd be saving Ash. That's a great vid!
Kaidan was a really boring unlikable character IMO, there were a lot of hard decisions in the trilogy (just played it for my first time last month) but that was an easy call for me. Such an amazing play through though.
You've created a version of Mass Effect I would have loved to play if it released on the GBA!

I'm amazed! This is perfect! Reminded me of my days playing Shining Force, and of course, Mass Effect, my favorite game.
I'll never understand why they made mission 64 so easy coming off the brutal slog of 62 and 63. It was basically a glorified cutscene.
In all seriousness, fantastic work. I can't tell if you programmed a game and recorded it or just animated the characters and UI.
It's all just animated. No programming is involved :)

of course they made it eazy, you have to sacrifice a teammate! permanently losing a few options isnt that nice.
@@64Bits I think they made it easy to account if you grinded either Ashley or Kaidan, then killed them off, making you in a potentially unwinnable situation.

Haven't played Mass Effect, but as a big Advance Wars fan, this was superbly good. Well done. You thought up some abilities I wish were in the real game! Only super minor detail would be greying out the characters (de saturating) when their turn was used.
Aww man, the CHOICE still hits, even after all these years, and in top-down pixel style.
A mass effect/advance wars combo feels like it was made to appeal to my specific interests and I love it.

This is Commander Shepard, and "Advance Effect" is my favorite game on the omni-tool.
Thank you for creating this, this is how I’ve always envisioned the ME games should have been played: as turn based strategy equal to XCOM or fire emblem with a RPG twist. Thank you for making my dream see some sort of reality
