What is the oddest thing you've come across? You know now I am on a binge session of all your videos lol. Thanks again for sharing. Cheers from Ontario Canada!

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  Год назад +2

      @heatherhancock446 Thanks Heather! We do try to get decent pics of everything. You'll find hi-rez images on our web site thedetectingduo.com where I post galleries of everything found! We'll be expanding the site with more related info over time.
      Biggest find? Price or size? Biggest price wise and most memorable was the first high dollar Gold and Dimond Ring Terri found. Retail value about $3,200 U.S. It's shown in the "Holy Expensive Ring Batman" episode. There have been many others. Many others in the retail value $200 to $2,000 range
      Canada is a great place. We need to get back up that way and explore more.
      We've found quite a few Canadian coins over the past year. For some reason a lot of Canadian Pennies have been popping up. Thought those were out of circulation starting in 2013.
      Memorable would be the times we recover cell phones for people or big expensive and sentimental gold rings for people.
      Oh, finding old Swiss Francs, Euro coins, Bahama coins now and thing. Those Francs are really cool as we love Europe and old coins from there. Some of the really interesting large, different rings and jewelry found is also memorable. Some are in the videos.
      It's hard to nail down what we like best. Just getting out on the beach and exploring is the most fun!
      Oldest? Silver coins from the early 20s. Wheat pennies. Shipwreck parts.
      Biggest as in size, would be car parts, boat parts, giant bolts and stuff like that.
      Weirdest would be cremation tags, odd jewelry, misc. other items people bring to the beach.
      Lots of cool toys.
      We probably need to make a video or two covering your questions! Lots of different video ideas in the works.
      Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!

    I love seeing the Vanquish used alongside of the Nox 600. I have both of these and I'm always curious as to how they compare. Thanks for the great video! I'm jealous of your wide beaches up there. Down here in Brevard County, our beaches are nothing like that.

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  Год назад +1

      Thanks @Marti Thew !
      We detect down in Brevard County now and then -- Cocoa Beach and a few others along there. Courser sand than up here at NSB and Daytona! Will probably be down that way again soon! Yeah, the beach is cut back pretty far in many areas up here. And a lot flatter too!
      The Vanquish 540 and the Nox 600 have pretty much the same VDI response spot on. Same multi-channel frequencies in use from what I recall as well. But the Vanquish will many times find something that the NOX would ignore. Tent Stakes for example will ring up at 19ish on the Vanquish but the Nox only gives grunty negative VDI readings.
      Terri seems to find more jewelry with the 540 than I do with the Nox.
      Could be I have some of my setting off from the Vanquish, but I did try to make them match as much as possible.
      Tne NOX is more prone to Microwave, Cell Tower and WiFi interference (chatters a lot around them) and the Vanquish is just quiet.
      Both work great! Cheers!

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  8 месяцев назад +2

      Excellent choice! The Vanquish 540 is surprisedly very good! We own 2 and they do quite well. The higher end detectors we're getting into now have some advantages, but it's all in knowing what your detector can do!

    • @bobasaurus8911
      @bobasaurus8911 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheDetectingDuo I'm currently trying to design and build my own DIY metal detector, it's a challenge. I doubt it'll be anywhere near as good as even a decent single-frequency machine available now, but I'll be happy if it finds anything.

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@bobasaurus8911 An interesting idea! A Metal detector circuit is really simple for a single frequency. Lots of circuit designs available online. Multifrequency should be doable.
      A coil housing could easily be 3-D printer (hmm. Something I could make in my Bambu printer!) Basic coil is pretty simple too.
      Then you need a controller so either an Arduino or Raspberry Pi or other simple computer is all you need and some nice little software . Sounds like a cool plan!
      The only advantage XP, MineLabs and others have are years more research and tweaked code.
      You could look up some of current metal detector patents which may has some additional insight.
      But I'm rambling! Been a while since I sat down and bread-boarded out a project! Ah if only I had the time. Cheers - Scott.

    I was surprised that the vanquish 540 found the ear rings, and the equinox 600 could not pick it up

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  Год назад +1

      Hey @bobneal1960 , Papa Bear! Thanks for the comment! The vanquish surprises us quite a bit. The iron content in and around may have fooled the Nox a bit more.
      But then Terri finds a lot of really good rings with that Vanquish! I go kinda fast with the Nox and don't always listen/feel the whisper tones and track them down like I should. The Nox also is more prone to EMI and that will throw us off too!
      We both hunt with all metal on which might be a factor. I might need to tune/calibrate it a bit more rather than default Beach mode.
      Basically, I just need to slow down and pay more attention to what the detector is telling me.

    Great videos. Thanks for sharing. So I was looking at metal detectors online and they range from a 100 bucks to 3,000 bucks. If I get one not spending 3 grand. What do you recommend the best value for the buck? I don't really have a budget just not paying 3K for a hobby toy.

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  Год назад +1

      Hi Kerry! Thanks for the comment! long reply here!
      For a detector, it really depends upon what and where you are going to detect. The Minelabs series we use are really good for anything. Over the years we've used Whites, Garrett, Bounty Hunter and one or two other off brands years ago with Terri's dad.
      Anything under $300 is gonna be a toy IMHO, but could work just find depending upon what you want to do. Even that old Radio Shack metal detector will find coins in the dry sand (just gotta work a lot harder!)
      We'd end up recommending Minelab brand for all your detecting, really. More info below!
      On the beaches we stick to the Minelab detectors. Their product is good and support is good (had them replace a coil one time under warranty). Both are excellent in highly mineralized soil and water. Battery life will last you a good day out or more without recharging.
      The Vanquish 540 (we own 2 of them) is a great all-around low cost detector that does as good as the Equinox 600 (better in some instances.) The coil is waterproof but the control box/pod is not. It has a rain cover. It uses replaceable AAA, rechargeable batteries.
      Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/3JUuyjn
      For $379 it's a great value. (lightweight, but study. )
      The 600 has more bells and whistles and it "waterproof" -- can take it out under water (but some have leakage experience. ). Batteries are built in and magnetic charge. It is more prone to microwave and other EMI. The Vanquish just ignores most EMI noise and just works! Terri has found expensive rings with it - more than I've found with the Nox 600 (right spot, right time thing!)
      Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/43mjSB8
      It's ~$600. Worth the additional price? Maybe.
      The VDI #s and depth indicators on both are pretty much the same. Terri detects in Jewelry Mode with all metal on. I detect in Beach Mode 1 or 2, depending upon whether in wet or dry sand. Either mode will work everywhere on the beach, really.
      Both use essentially the same multi-frequency channels for detecting. Just tuned slightly differently.
      The NOX can miss stuff that the Vanquish will find as a good signal (albeit could be a tent stake at a decent # that the NOX ignores.) But the Vanquish has found jewelry that the NOX would suggest I skip it. And on occasions when I pay attention, the reverse!
      Headphones? Can use the included ones (we don't on video) or not. The Vanquish is a bit louder than the Nox. Included headphones are not waterproof.
      A Step up is the Maniticore that many of the detectorist are changing to. I've played with it and thinking about getting one. Improvements in the noise cancel, the 2D graph for finding better targets and other features make it a plus. But it's 2.5 times more expensive than the Nox at $1600! amzn.to/3rq0F4i
      We've also played/helped new people on the beaches with their Garretts, bounty and other off-brand detectors. Still prefer the Minelab ones, but that's just what we use the most.

I don't mind paying more for something if it is worth the money but not if it isn't. Thanks for all your help and pointing me in the right direction. Thanks for the comment! Yep, I'm aware of that! Terri finds things quickly, I dig and document as we go. It only takes a few extra seconds. A tad slower for me, but the way I prefer to work these for the videos. Terri is usually on to the next target whilst I work the last.
      Terri spends the time to clean and research all items at home. Cheers!

    If you go all metal (horseshoe button) your detector will get the targets your wife's detector is.

    • @TheDetectingDuo
      @TheDetectingDuo  Год назад +1

      Hey @Buggy Man ! Funny and thanks for the note! .. We both run all metal all the time. But you never know! I rechecked the footage and yeah, I had it on. We rarely turn it off. Sorry, I'm going to ramble a bit about the detectors.
      The Minelabs Equinox 600 I run in Beach Mode 2 (mostly for wet and water since it works better there) but I forget to kick it back to Beach Mode 1 which seems to work better in dry sand.
      Also, I sensitivity was turned way down that day as the Equinox is much more prone to Microwave/Cell tower/WiFi interference.. Tend to chatter a lot. And, it just discriminates out stuff "better" than the Vanquish in many cases.
      Example: the Vanquish 540 will see a tent stake at/around a 19 VDI - solid zinc penny other stuff range, but the Vanquish will see it as negative VDI and pretty much ignore it.
      Both the Vanquish series and the Equinox series use the same VDI numbers for targets and the same (for the most part) multi-frequency.
      Could be I had the ground balance set differently - lots of reasons. Works out. Sometime I find things Terri misses and visa-versa!
      I could find it in pin-point mode, just wasn't that good of a signal.
      We gotta get around to testing a Manticore or some of these finds and see how it responds...
      Cheers! - Scott

      Hi @user-qs8nz8mu2g You're jumping to a wrong conclusion based upon what goes into our videos.
      We pick up more trash than you know or see on camera. Watch some of the other videos where we specifically show us digging up garbage and throwing it away.
      Some times there's more than just the two of us can handle and there are groups out there picking that up because there is a LOT of garbage out there on the beaches.
      People that come visit our beaches can be sloppy and disrespectful. The can be lazy and don't want to walk 20 feet to throw away their trash. Chairs, towels, shoes, tents, cans, etc. riddle the beach that volunteer groups are out there cleaning up daily.
      So yes, we do our part to clean as much trash off the beaches that we can whist we are on the beach.

      I wonder if you pick up every piece of trash that you walk by. It’s not their job to clean up after all the slobs.
