  • The EEE PC by Asus was innovative and mine is still running.
And it maybe even be useful.
Here are some light GNU/Linux distributions that could really run well on this PC.
    Arch Linux: www.archlinux.org
    Puppy Linux: puppylinux.com
    Lubuntu: lubuntu.net
...and of course her majesty, Debian: www.debian.org

I run Puppy Linux 528 on an EEEPc 701. It is a perfectly useful machine for browsing the web and watching some videos. The keyboard is a bit small to type long documents but it is just fine for email

I'm glad to know that Puppy Linux is light enough to give new life to a 701. I had already planned to try different distributions, I guess I'll start with Puppy then. Thank you!

While I typing this, in the background the creation of a new version of Puppy is going on in the background. At the rate I am going in a year or two I will be done but here is what I am up to:
      Start with Puppy Lucid 528
(*) Modify the help system to make it easier to add more help.
(*)Remove several things from the main SFS[1]
{*) Make a new additional SFS that has all the stuff I think I may need
[1] An SFS is a compressed file that becomes the "main disk drive" of the system. Anything you change goes in a 2FS. To the user it just looks like a file system.
Breaking it into two is for machines with smallish RAM.
