In person only and specific location locked raids which we managed to raid 8 over the elite raid day. Pokemon GO Mega Rayquaza raids can delivery you a Shiny Rayquaza and mega energy! With free timed research to drop a meteorite for yuor evolution. this was a day to try and find your local pokemon go community
This format feeds of the OG EX raid system, but I take you through my opinion and why I think this Pokemon GO raid system really needs a rework or to be scrapped.

So glad I played London and Global Go Fests last year. Had plenty of meteorites and energy loaded up. If I hadn't done those I would've been crying that this was the only way to get it. Horrible horrible raid system.

I didn’t even attempt it, it was too too hot today and I would have had my phone overheat. Not at all worth it in my opinion.

If you are like me and haven't ever caught a rayquaza, let alone mega evolve one or get a shiny, you kind of have to play it even if it's trash
I live in the suburbs and my regular raid spot with 8 gyms has 2 elite eggs at 6:00PM...
Another grind spot with 14 gyms has 1 all day... I just can't believe how trash these are.
And the route's my group of friends could figure out, it was so hectic and we had to drive miles to each one and there was so much traffic that it's just really dangerous to chase the raids, even in super populated suburbs, the raids are just too far apart.
Also, the fact that if you have 5 experienced trainers with good pokemon, it takes all but 30 seconds of the raid time to complete, then you get like 6-8 pokeballs or 150-185 mega energy, the only thing saving this event is what I believe to be a boosted 1/10 shiny rate. Why not just make it a 2-5 raid day...
Dont even get me started on the fact we only had 6 hours to cooperate with our communities to make a route and establish plans, it made it so hectic.
The elite eggs should either be in every gym or have increased catch rate if they're only going to give us 6-8 pokeballs per hard-fought raid.
Edit: didn't even mention the fact how there were like zero elite raids in NYC apart from Brooklyn zoo and Central Park on campfire. And Central park only has 2 elite eggs for the 5:00 slot... AHH

Honestly the day couldn’t have went any better for me. Did a total of 6 raids and got a shiny. I’m in a major US city and the local community is really big. There was a meet of 100+ people (probably more) at a park where multiple elite gyms were clumped together and each lobby filled up instantly. My only complaint is that the eggs didn’t appear until about 6am. Other than that though it was a pretty successful day
Elite raids should of been scrapped ages ago, Niantic mislead us as initially stated raid day which a load of people would of been hyped for, i only got 1 elite raid by me which i never attempted, I had more fun popping my Meltan box at home which I got 2 shiny Meltan in last 11mins and it was my first time getting the shiny Meltan and completing the family, i did better by sitting at home 😅

@@weeklyotaku5748It’s not as common as it used to be years ago. Niantic has really cracked down on spoofing and you have to jump through so many hoops to do it without getting banned
I was super stressed by the time I got to the catch screen so I ended up using a masterball. I'm going to make a mental note to just skip elite raids. They're not as good as raid days.
Meanwhile I was running unless it was a hundo to not waste time💀

1:45 If anyone was wondering how it went in Northolt, London United Kingdom - Full lobby of 20 in each raid (6 12pm starts and 1 1pm start) only 2 shinies in the whole group.
0:53 i love the ex raids and that Niantic try on this way to bring people together. I met sooo much and nice people during that Elite Raid „days“. We have now a „own“ Community in austria and go on raid hours and Events together
Couldn't do the elite raid ... not enough people.
That’s what campfire is for. Finding groups that are big enough. And it needed only three to four people to beat Ray.
We had 8 ppl....level 38-41 and we still couldn't beat it. Need approx 5 seconds more....

Managed to do 11 raids in total today, and caught them all. No hundos, but I did catch a mid 3-star shiny on my last raid! Super happy with that. The route we had to take though was quite long. We walked a total of 22 km total today to get to all the raids. To add, this was my first time getting any Rayquaza! Super happy with the turnout and the results of the day.
Elite raids blow mega balls
Couldn’t make the early ones due to family commitments but made it to the evening ones and we had around 30 ppl turn up, there was hype for it and it was good fun, even got a shiny!
Did a couple in the park near us. We were lucky that we ran into another 7 people doing the same thing so managed to get two. Really pleased as not been playing for a year yet so this was my first chance to get it.
I don't have a local community to play with. As soon as they announced they were going to be Elite raids, I was immediately discouraged. It's winter here and I have asthma, so it was quite a challenge for me. But I travelled 1 hour from home to a place where tons people normally gather to play, to be able to do... only one raid at 12. And the Rayquaza even escaped lol. But it was enough for me as I just needed over 200 mega energy and luckily already have a shiny I wanted to mega evolve.
I also played the Kyogre raid day a while ago in that same place and that was such a nice event. I am disappointed they wanted to push Elite raids for mega Rayquaza, as it is a system that always seems to have flaws, mostly affecting the first times zones to get it (as usual). I hoped for the best but Niantic messed up once again.
I got better results during gofest last year. I did one raid today as only one gym spawned near me in the time slot that worked for me. A lot of trainers were car raiding cause of availability of raids and the rain.
For anyone who has not gotten one Rayquaza, yes definitely worth it if you want the dex entry and to mega evolve it once you have enough mega energy (and the shiny as well if you're really lucky).
For everyone else, hell no! How did we get proper 3-hour raid days for Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon but not for Mega Rayquaza? I was checking Campfire frantically yesterday because the Sydney CBD area has a ton of gym stops and it's where I usually go for raid days, but nothing showed up for that area at all initially and the eggs that did show up on the map before they fixed it were located elsewhere and were spread so far out that it just wasn't worth getting out of the house.
I ended up playing it after a ton of eggs showed up finally and was able to fit in 12 total raids across the different time slots and got 1 shiny 89%. I would not recommend playing raid days like this again. I would rather they stick to a 3-hour raid day where we can invite friends that can't go out because they have other priorities.
It was a total cluster F. I feel your pain. Running around in cars. Afew of us almost got into wrecks. All our elite raids were place around the very outskirts of town. No way you could walk. At 104°f. 😢

I think elite raids definately need a rework in a lot of places but tbh i think that theyre a good raid format, over here our community became very distant after covid and we lost a lot of players so much so as to where before covid we would have over 40 of us for a raid day to now there not being really anyone out and if there are people out doing it, theyre in small groups of friends or families or they're by themselves and its been like this for a couple of years now but with these being in person only, a couple campfire meetups managed to get over a full lobby of people at almost every elite raid we did throughout the whole day, many who had never met each other before and did through these type of events.
So yeah don't get me wrong these raids aren't perfect and they need a lot of work mostly to the distribution and timings of the raids in my opinion, but they do help get people out and meeting new people so honestly i think its a good system in theory.

I already have a hundo and two shinies and got the meteorites at go fest last year so there was no need for me to raid for any more. Plus I’m saving money and passes for this years global go fest. But had I wanted to raid, I wouldn’t have been able to as I don’t have a community. Hope everyone had a good day tho!
I didn't do any, had plans and stuck with them! Ex raids have to be in areas marked as parks, which explains that really intense area!
The three gyms near my house all had a 6pm hatch on them . Guess what time I start work 3 miles away- 6pm!
A few people went in to town for the 5pm & 6pm raids which unfortunately I couldn't make but I had a 6pm one up the road from me which I posted in groups & campfire but no one turned up 😞 so my timed research expired & never got anymore meteorites. But it wasn't a total waste of time coz on my way to the raid I caught a shiny party hat Eevee which is a new costume Pokémon for me 🥳
Went in a car with 3 people and we had a car train. For the day we managed to do 18 raids. No shiny for anyone, except me in the 6:00 hour. It was a 93%. Someone got a hundo in the first hour and my sister got a hundo in the 6:00 hour. But good to get the candy.
One 6pm raid in the whole town where we had no service and couldn’t do it. We had to drive all over to get the raids
I'm fortunate enough to have gotten a shiny mega rayquaza during one of the past events.
In 13 gyms around us, there were ZERO Rayquaza throughout the whole day. WORST “raid day” they’ve ever done. They failed in their own vision.
There was only one raid in my inmediate area, beat it with five people with party power with about a quarter of the time left. It was a fun time, but it sucks my girlfriend wasn't able to get 400 energy. At least she has two meteorites now.
I didnt even bother with the event I already have a shundo lvl 50 Rayquaza with dragon ascent and mega evolved all the way and best buddied and also have 4 other shinies as well so I just chilled back where I live it's dead for pokemon go so it would have been a waste of time. Congrats on everyone else who got one and got to mega evolved it.
I don't like Elite-Raids at all. As I said, there is no community left in the area I live in so it was like waiting at the gym for random people to jump in. Was lucky enough to get 1 done with 5 people, but not a fan. Great video and breakdown mate.

I couldn't play Rayquaza day, because my boss needed me all day and during my lunch break there were no raids at all.
to be on topic: If this kind of shows are still around, bring Niantic to for example Undercover Boss. Let them play the game with fulltime job players, rural players, people in wheelchairs, all the variety, to exchange thoughts and ideas of how us trainers can enjoy this game. With a big focus on the enjoy part. We've seen #hearusniantic doing something in the past, but I feel we can do much better than just a simple hashtag on social media

I dont mind elite raid, but at least let me raid, none spawn at 5pm, 6pm, while i missed 12 noon, 1pm due to busy, so i even cannot raid one to complete the time research😂
So having done 6 today in a 2 hour window (I mostly went to get the Meteorite since I had Mega Rayquaza Energy and "specimens" from Go Fest itself), this event feels like a massive "1 step forward, 3 Steps back" to me. I made out more than well with my goal and had some friends hit it well (including a new player catching a Shundo), but I also know we were just exceedingly lucky, especially for a Suburban area.
The Elite Raid format itself is pretty awful on top of the general scarcity (like the in-person only thing would be more tolerable if there were just a ton of Rayquaza to watch for randos with), the timing and communication was awful for QoL (shorter notice for the Eggs appearing to plan around when that is seemingly the point of this event). There were some things that are improvements like the 1/10 Shiny rate, but then another one (higher energy-per-raid dropping) feel mostly like they were compensation for the bad format (compared to Raid days giving enough passes to make a Primal even with the 80 drop rate), especially since Meteorites are the Bottleneck.
It's weird to me because it feels like this was done to avoid giving out as many free Rayquaza raids as the Raid Days normally allow, but then Elite Raid format means there are barely enough raids to sell passes for so it's just a net loss for everyone, especially since Go Fest NY/Global soon means Niantic's obviously trying to drain resources to push spending for it.

You are right they use the same criteria as EX raids. The elite raid spawning is determined by what landscape type the gym is sat directly on in Open Street Maps.
Only certain landscapes types make it an elite raid gym, therefore it's a complete lottery for any given area in the world.
in the 3 biggest city in my country are only 3-4 mega rayquaza raids, but in a small town 7 km away there are 20+. but in the small town there aint people that are doing the raids
I didn't have a mega ray and I got a shiny with decent IVs and candies so was worth it for me definitely 😂

We had players come in two towns over to hopefully get into a raid. They placed the raids at the far end of the town. 10 min drive to each of the raids. No 6 am showing of eggs. Nothing to indicate the elite gyms. All you could hope for was a group of players that was there. And everyone had to follow the group. Talk about a huge muffin. 😅
13 raids, 1 shiny, 1 decent one 15/14/14. Other then that the event was ok

Went out for the lunch time raids. Worth doing but not worth it enough to go back out for the second round. I’ll sit on my 93% until Mega Rayquaza comes back around
There’s literally no benefit of elite raids, they’re just very hard and most people can’t play them. The old perk of special spawns nearby after winning didn’t even make sense because anyone there was probably walking to the next one immediately after. The only thing that would make it worth it would be a huge number of xl candy or if they put the mythicals in them.
I agree with you Milo if this was a true raid day I think it would be better and people would have grinder it more I did maybe two but I did manage a hundo party hat Charmander

We had zero raids for Rayquaza in our area during this event. Why run an event for this if you are not going to make raids for it available? Therefore, we were not able to obtain finishing the quest for it. I personally believe they owe us a make up day where we could all have a chance to get this for those of us, especially who never got one the first time.! 😢

Well we had 8 in person and barely made it literally with zero seconds levels 45-50 these were a f’ing joke! I was at NYC GoFest and did all the rayquaza raids and these were nothing compared to todays! Bad news raids today and won’t participate again in any “elite” raids

I went out of town this morning for Canada Day weekend. Even if I did stay in town today, we have a very small community here, and any chance I would have had to MAYBE snipe into another group's raid would have been at our mall which has 3 gyms. I checked campfire this morning before I left: not one of the 3 gyms even had an elite egg. I don't even have Rayquaza yet. I don't understand why niantic hates their player base so much.
If you were going thru all that effort on campfire you could’ve joined a local group and asked what meets were popping, I had a train over over 100 in my town.

Only did 3 raids bc I didn’t want to go hard first 2 ran away and the last one I caught was a 10/10/10 pretty much sums up the even😂
Overall the event was 10% of the fun it could have been simply due to the lack of accessibility which is caused by in person only raids but for the few that got what they came for bravo!
No shiny for me but I was only able to coordinate 6 raids because where I'm from you have to drive between raids and the random nature of the spawns and short window made it nearly pointless. The games designed around cities with thriving population of players but sadly that's not the game anymore and until Niantic realizes the game will continue to be disappointing. I spent $0 instead of the $100 I would for a regular raid day so I'd love to see the profit for the day lol.
Had 11 out of 12 gyms at my home park have raids today. Nothing good though.
There was only 2 raids in my area and I got one shiny!
I tried to take part in the raids in the fist part of the afternoon, but in moving from the meet up with the group I was to be doing the with my wheelchair got stuck in the air part way in my car. My hoist broke down & I had to wait for the R A C to come out & help me as the people that fitted the hoist don't work on Saturday's. I did manage to get to 3 raids after 5pm & won with help of others, but didn't manage to the Rayquaza. So I feel cheated, as I don't really have anything to show for my 6 hours. 😢
There are 12 gyms in our town and not one is elite raid eligible 😕 Loosen the criteria or something to make the raids available at least.

We had hundreds of people playing today in our little community and it was awesome! Everyone hating on these elite raids, but a lot of us had fun and really enjoyed them!
I got out for a few, but we had to do a lot of walking to get 5 done. 20 min walk from one to the last one, which was two gyms. Had to let one of the Rayquaza go to squeeze the last raid in. Both were dirty 2 stars.
I got the shiny on the first raid so I wasn’t too fussed. So many people kept getting kicked out of raids. Glitches galore.
Was it worth it? Maybe? I finally have enough energy to mega one, and got some meteorites. I’m not sure if I had any before, I have 4 now also. I never have mega’ed one before.
Was nice to see full lobbies again though. A lot of us had a few devices so we had to do split lobbies!

no one does these local to me.. so never been able to do any elite raid or any legendary shadow raid... they really need to change this. its not inclusive at all

What’s the point of making Elite raids n not being able to invite people even tho it’s a mega …. I did one n it ran . No loss
Didn't bother. Already have 4 hundos maxed and Mega'd from last year. Would have liked the extra stones but imo the whole event was wrong... Elite Raids are useless due to the factors already stated, at the very least they should have compromised and allowed 5 remote invites per raid, I think more people would have joined then. I notice they boosted the energy from each raid (last year it was max 90 I think), that being the case it kind of defies their reason for not using regular raids🤷♂️🤷♂️ Big missed opportunity again from Niantic. DISAPPOINTED!!!!!
Was just the one elite raid nearby so walked over to see if anyone turned up. Have enough resources of Ray from last year so not to bothered on the result. 3 other persons showed up, I imagine in the car (or air support) as couldn't see them. Their pokemon were too poor, I could see they were leading with Dragonite and Mewtwos and not many of them. Gave it two tries then carried on about my day.
Extremely poorly executed event, whoever's idea it was needs sacking. I was not bothered but felt the 3 casuals that turned up (level 25-39) may be really offput by the game after going to the location, attempting it and coming out with nothing. Reading comments and some trainers didn't even get the chance to attempt it due to numbers. Easy way to drive away newer players from the game.
