  • Lesson learned, don't use UPS for international shipping! In this video I unbox a huge Lego 9v train haul, straight tracks, switch tracks, crossings and a couple 9v speed regulators just for good measure 😀

    Yours has quickly become one of my favorite LEGO-related channels. The emphasis on electronics with a let's-fix-it approach I think is quite unique. Also, it always cheers me up that you manage to chuckle even at grim situations such as this. Having had some bad experiences with UPS myself, I know how much it can hurt.
    Looking forward to see how you will put those new parts to use, and in time to take a personal stab at building an automated rail track. Best wishes from Sweden!

      Thanks! I know my channel isn't really what the RUclips algorithm likes to promote. Slowly but surely many like-minded people have found it which makes me happy 😀. Thanks for the comment and all the best to you!

      I guess it could have been worse. Even after paying UPS their extortion fee, you could say I paid closer to 5$ for each straight track, which isn't unheard of. Some lessons are more expensive to learn 😬

    you can actually make your own 9v track using copper tape and standard rc track and it works just as good as the official 9v track

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  3 месяца назад +1

      Yep, several members of our discord are using that method. I'll probably have to give it a try at some point

    I'm sorry to hear about your experience with UPS. I have not had any surprise charges in packages from overseas, whether from Bricklink or eBay so I'm not sure why you received the "special" treatment. I enjoy unboxing if it involves old or unusual parts, as you never know when you'll run across something weird but useful. Also, Go Aquazone!

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  Год назад

      Yeah these haul videos are always fun, and you never know what will show up. I once got an old Blacktron Minifig in a Mindstorms set 😂. I've seen the availability of Aquazone pieces getting less and less over time, trying to stock up while I can! Now I just need to build something with them :)

      @@BatteryPoweredBricks Aquazone is underserved by the MOC Community. The color schemes of the different factions, when embedded in an underwater seascape, offer opportunities for very colorful and appealing creations. One great example was featured on Beyond the Brick. It had an undersea base, monorail, large arched rock formation and a carpet of coral interlaced with marine life. My hope is to eventually create a small scale homage to "Blacktron Intelligence Agency", which was an epic 30 foot long Blacktron I based build from 15 years ago.

      I ended up with two, I think I've gone as far as I will stocking up on 9v stuff. Unless FX Bricks or another company wants to come down on the prices 😅. So crazy that Lego still doesn't sell crossings for the RC track system. Good thing we have third party companies for that stuff

    Interesting.. a few years ago (pre covid, and pre price-jump), I ordered 24 Train controllers from an BL/EBay Store in Germany, to hear in Australia, and like you, packaging was less than stellar - fortunately none were damaged...

    Yeah UP$. The $ stands for $ervice. What did they charge this amount of money for exactly?
    ...and I don't want to upset you even more, but 2,60€ = 2,60$ at the moment (September 4th 2022).
    When people take the stuff they sold to you and throw it in a cheap random box stuffed with some paper garbage for shipping, I also hate that. Once somebody sent me an item packed in a box that desintegrated completely on its way, so that DHL repacked it into a new cartbord box, they didn't even charge for it and fortunately the item was still complete and intact.

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  2 года назад

      I think UPS calls it the "because we can" fee. I'm often a little disappointed with how people ship things, but I'm on the other end where I over pack things. I've only had a few really bad experiences, the one that took the cake was 5 really heavy PC video cards (one of which that had a water cooler and radiator), just thrown in a box, no packing material. They didn't tape the bottom of the box and everything fell out in the parking lot when the post man was delivering it. They fought me hard to get a partial refund, trying to blame the post office 🙄

    What do you use to clean the track. I just got a 4559 and am thinking of getting a track set up along with my son's cargo train.

    • @BatteryPoweredBricks
      @BatteryPoweredBricks  3 месяца назад

      Honestly most of the time I just run a train on the track. It will need some pushes in bad spots but it will basically clean itself. In my "Official Lego 9v Train Layouts" video there were a couple of bad spots but I just kept running the train until it got better. Remember the 9v motors get their power from the inside edge of the rails, not the top. I have used pencil erasers to good effect with some track pieces. There is also a BrickNerd article on the subject if your tracks are really bad off
