I’ve been to hundreds of concerts on all genres and no one commands a crowd like Taylor Swift. Her fans know every word to every song and they range in age from pre teens to mid 70’s. She has a way of making you seem like she is singing directly to you. Confidence is off the charts. How could you pick just one to be the “it” song. It’s unnecessary Charles.

Two men doing this commentary was always going to miss the point. Of course they don’t understand why so many women relate to her music. In 2006 no one was giving women music that speaks to them. Taylor has been unashamedly doing that since 2006. Women’s inner world, emotions, dreams, frustrations are relevant. Hits on the radio are fun, but music that makes you feel and can be the soundtrack to your inner world is obviously (based on her popularity) more important to women. The recording industry, historically dominated by men, has been ignoring women. Thankfully we have Taylor now. And she is profiting from recognising that we exist.

If people are upset because they are sick of hearing about her, that’s on you. She really isn’t doing anything, it’s the media, the cameras. The nfl. CNN, USA Today & probs my other outlets have dedicated people to cover just her.
What is her Billie Jean, at she 34? All too well, blank space , shake it off? She’s an album artist, not one song. She makes albums that are full projects. Some artists release albums with 1-2 hits but the rest of the album are skips, but those two hits make the money. She makes albums and no longer really makes music for mainstream radio. She can, she does, but that’s just not where she is musically right now. She wasn’t trying to put out this big pop album and missed the mark. This album is exactly what she wanted to make. She is her only competition. Thing is, she is very smart, often ahead of her time with the decisions she has made.
She is going what she can. She does more than others. She engages her fans, makes it interactive, makes it like a puzzle and fun for fans. She doesn’t have to do that, other artists don’t do that, she does it and it works.
Oh. I have a technics SL-1500c, white turntable hooked up to Klipsch Forte speakers. Swifties have turntables. And do some investigating, her vinyl are collectors items. Her orange Reputation goes for over $3000, her red RSD might be her most expensive album. Folklore variants are around $500.
First, I am 66 yrs old and I listen to Swift because I can actually sing along. I cannot always do this with some other artists. Second, when watch a video of hers I am impressed that she doesn’t sexualize every move and my granddaughter can watch and sing along. Third, I admire that she writes her own songs/music and performs them. She is a story teller. Many others do not or are not great story tellers. The Beatles were prolific writers and Bob Dylan (which won a Nobel Prize). Looking for that ONE transformative song rather than the body of work or to suggest her relationships are simply a marketing ploy demonstrates ignorance.
I am 79, male, English and became a Swiftie this year. I agree. If I could sing I could sing along to MOST of her songs including TTPD and the Anthology. Taylor said it herself - she puts narcotics in all of her songs😊. To most Swifties I think "All too well" is Taylor's stand-out song. Perhaps non-Swifties do not have an attention span of more than 5 minutes.
Something which I don't think has been mentioned elsewhere is the way TTPD and the Anthology have DOMINATED Reactions on RUclips. Dozens of people with 90+ minutes of reactions (and considerably longer on Patreon). It is insane. But I love it. Almost all reactions are very positive.
I doubt many of those other artists that you’re comparing her to wrote their own songs and directed and acted in the videos. What other artist has that many college courses deciphering her poetic lyrics. She is a beautiful, compassionate, trail blazing genius.

My argument also is that those past greats were identified to one specific song which is why they were not able to occupy the entire top 10. The swifties consumes her discography. I became a fan after watching her Reputation Tour… I’ve been to many concerts and all I can say is wow… she was amazing…. Her new album is slow but if you take the time to understand the words it’s a beautiful album

Taylor's new album is not one you get after the first listen. This album is very deep. You have to really listen to get the meaning behind alot of the songs.

People do not give Delicate enough love
At this point, Taylor cannot be caught up or passed. The Swifties are so devoted because of how Taylor is with her fans, her personality and on stage performance is so enormous, nobody will ever overtake her, or if someone does it won’t be in the lifetime of anybody watching this video right now.
Her business brain is incredible but as the daughter of a hedge fund guru and a marketing consultant, you’d expect her to inherit plenty of skills. Her work ethic is ridiculous, for the eras tour, to get fit and be able to sustain 3.5hrs and 44 songs, for 6 months prior she rehearsed the entire set list running in a treadmill everyday, then after the first 3 months of that 6 months, she worked through all the dance routines, she was also at the same time releasing the Taylor’s Versions, and she was writing the current album all whilst going through hell personally.
Her Billy Jean is All Too Well, a song from the Red album that the label execs didn’t think was good enough to release as a single until the fans got hold of it and shot is to the top of the list, similarly Cruel Summer wasn’t supposed to be a hit from the pov of the label yet she opens the Eras tour with Cruel Summer. So all too well got so big, Taylor started working up the 10minutes version and then made the short film to accompany it. It’s a fan favourite in tour because she does is acoustically and the crowd sing along verbatim.
The most extraordinary thing though is the micro economy she creates every city she goes to, it sounds a little hyperbolic but she’s single-handedly raising millions for small businesses and in some cases saving some businesses from bankruptcy. She’s a force to be reckoned with, she’s just 34 and releases an album every 2 years, she’s got at least another decade of albums in her and with every album follows a mega tour although I’m pretty sure she’ll slow down for a couple years now, she wants to start a family and hopefully now she’s found Travis, at the end of this tour she’ll be taking a break.

You need to listen to the album. There is no flow? No story that brings it together? What?? I know it hurts to see a woman dominate the charts but it’s happening. Oh, and I only bought one copy not 5… She is #1 because she connects with half the universe. People feel her music and relate to her music. Apparently two dudes just don’t get it.
Her Billy Jean is All Too Well which is a 10 min song whose video won a Grammy and blew up the charts when she finally re-released in its full form. You don’t pay attention obviously 🙄 look at her awards!

The craze around Taylor is TAYLOR. Taylor IS the MARKETING; the music industry. Who has ever redone all their albums so she could own their rights reselling the new ones to people who already had the old ones. Taylor has a genius group of business people, publicist, creatives etc. who are her backbone. It helped that she started out with a dad who was a stockbroker & a mother who was a marketing genius to promote her. Taylor herself had the instinct to sell herself through much perseverance & love for her fans. Taylors present fandom from her Eros Tour, her Love Story with Travis & being chosen as Times Person of the Year all came together when the world needed a positive distraction from its pandemic woes & political dysfunction. Taylor mania represents all that is good at the moment & that’s what’s selling; TAYLOR.

Haters can suggest inflated numbers on sales but they can't excuse away her sold out stadium concert sales *worldwide*. Its hervbest album, but no not radio ready. Its her best project yet. I'm 60, new to Swifts music, and disagree heavily with that "cult" talk. Its just another way to discredit.
She isn’t just a singer. She writes all of her own songs. The other people mentioned are just singers. She is also connecting with her writing. And unlike the Beatles, she is writing her life, not “hit records”. You have to listen to all of the songs on all of the albums. They tell a complete story. And her lyrics are incredible. And she’s nice. And she is growing up with her original fans AND still connecting with our daughters. So, listed to dear John, all too well ( long version), clean, would’ve, could’ve should’ve, hits different, the black dog, maroon. The songs that are gold tier are ones you probably glossed over. You just cannot evaluate an artist like you are doing by just recalling radio ready songs and repeating what other people who’s research and understanding is equally shallow. ,

Maybe you should have actually listened to Taylor Swift before making this video! There are so many things that make Taylor special! In no particular order, some of those things are:
The relationship she has with her fans, (she has sent money, gifts, personal letters etc. to fans, especially during the pandemic, she has invited fans to her home and baked cookies for them, interacted with fans online etc.)
Her lyrics, (she has a way of summing up exactly how you didn't even know how you were feeling! {Listen to "All Too Well 10 minute version" which by the way is the longest song to reach number 1! Or watch the accompanying short film she directed while you're at it.} Her songs make you feel like you're reading Taylor's diary or that she has read yours.)
She is a smart business woman (noone does an album release like Taylor! Who else could rerecord and rerelease their back catalogue with such success? Taylor can because she gives the fans something special, the extra "vault" songs that we didn't even know about or the rumoured 10 minute version of All Too Well she released with her version of Red, that we had been asking for, for years! She has also put clues and Easter eggs into her lyric booklets and music videos for the fans)
She is the hardest working artist in the industry (who else does a 3+ hour show 3 nights a week?! When the world was locked down and noone had anything going on, Taylor wrote, recorded and released 2 whole albums! While on tour she has written, recorded and released TTPD, PLUS while on a short break from touring, she has incorporated it into the set of her current tour!)
She rewards genuine fans with opportunities to get tickets. Fans who preordered her album midnights all got a presale code for tour tickets. Then she opened a ticket registration but there were too many people who registered, so most people got wait listed. Her tickets (for her 3 nights in Dublin anyway) NEVER went on general sale! They were all sold to fans who had either pre-ordered her album or registered for a code. And even still many missed out.)
She has a sense of humour and is smarter than most people (Taylor took the Media's perception of her being a serial dater and wrote "Blank Space" which is mostly misunderstood. People don't get that she has written from the perspective of this character that the media created and is in my opinion still underrated because of that.)
Not "all of her songs sound the same!" (Anyone who says this obviously hasn't listened to her! She has written songs for so many different genres country, pop, folk, rock, indie, alternative, dance, dub etc. In writing "Folklore" and "Evermore", Taylor changed from a diaristic writing style to writing from the perspective of fictional characters on most of the songs. * Challenge * listen to "loml" and then "Shake it Off", or "Champagne Problems" and then "Picture to Burn", or "Dear John" and then "The Man", or "Daylight" and then "Anti hero" or " Love story" and then "Marjorie" or "I can do it with a broken heart" and then "The Smallest man who ever lived". And then tell me that all her songs sound the same! {Do I need to go on or have I made my point?!})
And contrary to popular belief she doesn't only write songs about her exes! (While we all know she writes the best breakup songs ever, she has written about political issues, LGBTQ+ rights, a little boy who she had never met but followed his battle with cancer, her childhood, her mom's illness, life lessons, friendship, fame, revenge, feminism, appreciation for her fans etc.)
She is a prolific songwriter! (Even from the debut era as a teenager, Taylor was writing amazing songs. Of course critics said she wasn't holding her own in writing sessions so she wrote "Speak Now" an entire album written solo! She has also written many songs for other albums solo including some from her current album TTPD.)
Other artists respect her so much they don't want to compete with her. (Artists have been known to move album release dates not to compete with her. Just listen to Drake's "Red Button")
Taylor is the world's first billionaire based solely on her music! (This is despite the fact that she has given the proceeds of particular songs and money in general to different charities such as public schools in New York, cancer charities, nature conservation charities, food banks, charities supporting survivors of sexual assault, animal rescue charities, victims of covid, as well as giving to help fans pay student loans, medical bills etc. She also gave those involved in her tour set up huge bonuses and letters of appreciation.)
So in summation, listen to her catalogue, go to one of her shows, get informed about the kind of person she is, before you form an opinion! So many non-swifties have been converted by going to see the Eras tour. (which by the way going into this tour, she had 4 entire albums that she hadn't toured as well as some vault songs, and now including Tortured Poets makes 5 albums.) You cannot compare Taylor to anyone else. Critiques like this only fuel her to work even harder and get even better so this video is probably actually doing us all a favour as we'll get more amazing music. And as Taylor herself would say "all you are is mean".

Taylor started very young. At 14, Sony/ATV Publishing hired her as a staff songwriter. She just turned 34 so has been in the music business for 20 years and, amazingly, is still at the very top of her game.
When the Eras tour is done she plans to direct a movie for which she wrote the script and there is talk about her being given a role as "the Dazzler" in one of Ryan Reynolds' movies.
It's tough to keep up with that kind of work ethic. Maybe that's why so many of her peers resent her. As Ryan Reynolds recently said in an interview, "lazy" is not a word one would associate with Taylor Swift.
Taylor's impact will be the path she has forged so that other pre-teens and teens can aspire to reach her level of success.

Michael Jackson revolutionized the music industry Michael literally could not go anywhere without being followed places and cars that Michael was riding in his fans would get hurt because they were following him in his car Taylor does not have that she can go places sometimes and people will be there but does not bother her with Michael he could not do that he could not go anywhere and these other artist from back in the day was before social media, Taylor is amazing and i will not take that away from her but she is huge but not that huge.

I think the reason you don't see fans passing out anymore is because we're so saturated with the artist, with cell phones and streaming and the internet.We can see them every day at any time of the day or night. We have gotten spoiled. Michael was one of a kind and it was something very special and somewhat rare to see him as much as we see these artists now. You can catch a glimpse of Michael. Maybe on TV or if he was on an award show or we'd by magazines, The environment around artist and movie stars was just different from today.
I see the question is TMZ host is having but, some of it I feel is that because you don't get her fan base or the artist or her music, or may not care for it, it does not mean their is a phenomenon with 'Swift and. has been for many years.
If it was a flash in the pan kind of thing or she was not important as an artist her major following would have died out long ago and she would not maintain being at the top of her profession.
Sinatra was a teen favorite that mellowed as he got older and moved into acting. Elvis maintained a core fan base through out but, his major impact was in the 50s as a rockabilly star. After his GI time he came back but, mellowed and was no longer the rebel and so the major impact and big thrill was gone.
The Beatles had Beatlemania for a few years but, they also moved away from pop and began experimenting with sounds and music beginning with Rubber Soul and became huge more for their innovative music, their lead in moving the world of music to new horizons and outstanding writing.
Since then there has not been a massive artist that had such a profound fan base and kept at the top of music.
Taylor, from what I see, is an artist that began as a teen and had a huge fan base from the start. Her music spoke the the world of teen girls.
As she grew up and became a young woman of today she spoke to those women as well. Many fans grew up with her and her music got them through many times of their lives.
Taylor is made fun of for her songs of break ups and for the amount of boyfriends she has had. But, that speaks to young women today. It is not a world where a young woman dates one of two guys before finding the one. Today many young women date as many boyfriends as Taylor. She is the norm. Not the people who think it's so scandalous that she's dated a lot.
I am not a Swifties though I do like several of her videos and songs. And I like some of her work on the new album. It's an introspective album. Not a party album. It's her doing self examination and saying goodbye to poison feelings she's held onto. She is ready to move to a new phase.
I understand all of this by just observing people and human nature. And the way life is for young women today. And learning a little about Taylor. So, its not hard to figure all this out.

Any time I listen to two middle age dudes trying to analyze Taylor Swift I know it’s going to be grand. They even used the word “calculated” which is exactly what Taylor said men use to describe her as a women instead of being “strategic “.

With this, TTPD became the fastest selling album since Ed Sheeran’s Divide in 2017. Taylor now ties with Madonna as the female artist with the most UK number 1 albums with 12 each. The Beatles still has the record for overall most number 1 albums in the UK with 16, but it’s not far-fetched that she will break that record too within this decade with two more Taylor’s Version rerecordings in the bag and considering how huge of a global artist she is. In the same tracking week, TTPD’s lead single Fortnight also debuted at number 1 on the UK singles chart making the pair her 3rd double chart-topper in the country.
I doubt that this chart dominance is possible for any artist if the demographic you mentioned aka young girls are the only ones buying or listening to Taylor’s music. Yes, they are a big part of her market, but it goes beyond that. Her demographics is wide and varied, it transcends gender, and is inter-generational, and that’s evident on her being one of the last monocultural phenomena in a fragmented world dominated by social media and people’s short attention spans. I don’t think “young girls” (considering how condescending you sound like, and almost labeling Taylor’s music as juvenile, I assume that by “young girls” you mean underage school girls) have that purchasing power to help Taylor achieve that high of a debut sales week.
