    I just love to watch your videos even when it’s not on a vehicle I’ll be working on, because I can apply a lot of the stuff you teach us to other things.

    I have this same engine in my car! It’s been a pretty good car to me.

      Overall they are great engines! They have timing chain tensioner issues which is easy to fix. Other than that they are pretty solid.

      Apparently the 2.2 was a better engine that the latter 2.4. I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about the 2.4

    Would you be very kind enough to tell me ..if possible....where do we install block heater in Ecotec 2.2 engine ? I drive saturn ion 2007 2.2 engine car.

    Any tips on which common tools are great to keep on hand? (Common for different types of vehicles).

      Hey Tammy, good question! My most common tools I use everyday are a good ratchet and wrench set. Craftsman, DeWalt and Workpro all make a good Mechanic's tool set. Followed by a good set of pliers and a good set of screwdrivers. These cover 90% of the work on any car. Other tools would be a 1/2" impact and impact socket set, pry bar set, electric ratchet, torque wrench breaker bar... It's easy to spend a lot of money on tools. My advice would be to start with the Mechanic's tool set and then purchase tools as needed for the job at hand. Hope that helps 🙂

    What is your opinion on this one?
    2003 Saturn Ion Level 3, 2.2L Ecotec L61, "F" on VIN,
    No History on Vehicle (Flood Damage)
    Took spark plugs out (spark plugs looked ok), disconnect fuel & ignition, crank. Milk chocolate.
    Replace Oil & Filter, Drain Fuel Tank, Replace Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Took Plenum Out (Heard liquid inside) clean & Dry, re-installed.
    Condition: "Crank No Start", No Engine Codes.
    Engine in Vehicle, no visible stains and or leaks.
    Fuel: Yes, Spark: Yes, Compression: Dry/Wet
    1:70/225
    2:65/200
    3:100/130
    4:35/100
    Leak Down: NO pressure hold.Each cylinder leak from crankcase bleeder & throttle. plug bleeder with thumb, air from throttle & oil came out dipstick.
    Inspect Timing Chain Cams Sprockets: Sprockets orientation 10/2, but color links +1, no broken or loose guides. Cams rusted in shaft, some scoring in some lobes.
    Cylinder Head:all Valves look straight after putting on hand drill, all intake valves rusted, exhaust valves ok. Rocker's free roll, some are scored on the edges a little bit, Lifters not clogged, nipple rotates.
    Block:
    1/4: TDC ok, no visible damage on piston, no scoring on walls
    2/3: 2 TDC ok, but 3 never reached TDC at all with/or with out 2 (rotated crank several times) it stayed 6.5mm short of top block
    Note: #3 was the one with the stable compression, so piston Rod should be ok...crankshaft lobe wipe?
    Question what can cause #3 not to reach TDC?
    Thanks!

      If cylinder 3 was full of liquid when someone tried to start it it could have hydro locked and bent the connecting rod.

    Is this the same motor in the 05 sunfires the 2.2 engine ?

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  Год назад

      It's very similar but it is a different engine. I'm not sure torque specs and procedures would be the same.

      @@ValleyMobileAutomotive okay sweet I'm just curious don't know much about the motors or transmissions on these cars but are they pretty good units because I can't find anything on the Trans much ?.

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  Год назад +1

      @@JakeWilson-x4q they are pretty good cars overall. They do tend to burn oil so keeping up on checking the oil every so often.

      @JakeWilson-x4q Год назад

      @@ValleyMobileAutomotive I wonder why they burn oil often guessing the rings get wore out but overall how much would it cost to rebuild one of them roughly?

    • @ValleyMobileAutomotive
      @ValleyMobileAutomotive  Год назад

      @@JakeWilson-x4q if you do the work yourself and you purchase quality parts it runs between $400-$600. If you have a shop do it it will be around $3,500 because of the labor involved.
