A friend helped me put together a green house like yours. we took it apart several times until we got theparts right. Then 2 days afterward a wind blew it up the hill and over the fence into the neighbor's yard. BUSTED. So tie it down really well!!!!
I agree with the idea of securing the green house . We also have our second metal framed structure after the wind tossed the first one into the neighbors yard. The second try we pounded metal fence post into the ground about 4 feet deep and bolted them to each of the leg post. It's been in place now for the past 5 years. We have had to order a new covering for it but that is to be expected. Please take the time and added expense, it will pay off.
You two work really well together. I had a similar thing once. My ten(?) year old grandson came to help. He spread it all out and boom, boom put it all together without even looking at the directions. Amazing how that kids brain worked. YET he didn't even finish school because he is dyslexic. He is now 32 and does really well at his job because it requires common sense. Yay Ryan.
Hi guys... I've built a few of these! The way I do the base is, dig a trench, pour in some concrete, trowel it level. When it's set, build one course of building blocks on the concrete footings. When that's set, fix pressure treated timber rails around on the centre line of the greenhouse base rails using frame fixings - something like 38 X 63mm construction timber. Then you can just simply screw down the greenhouse with chunky wood screws and penny washers. Simples! And it works with a bigger greenhouse than this..... Also, recommend a shelter belt on the prevailing wind side of the glasshouse, a few metres back so you don't shade it. Start with shading fabric on posts /stock fence..and plant shrubs behind it...
I've learned that things in Portugal either don't come with instructions at all, even in Portuguese. Or they are so short there is nothing useful. But there is usually a 1 kilo book with safety warnings in 27 languages. Then when you translate it, it says only "Do not use this item in an unsafe manner". 18 months ago I had to assemble an entire 7 hp roto-tiller using a photo I found online.
Haha this was like watching our future…ours is sat in its box waiting for this week, or maybe next 😜 well done guys! Looking forward to watching your growing journey unfold, as ours does too 🥕 sending strong veg vibes from up north 💪🏼
I don’t envy you having that task ahead of you! 😁 A tip - silicon or apply some sort of adhesive around the polycarbonate panels as the clips that are meant to hold them in will never stand up to the Portuguese winds…last thing you want is neighbours returning your greenhouse panels from their gardens! Good luck with the build 👍🏼I’m sure you’ll make less of a meal of it than I did! 😂
Personally, I wouldn't cut the 'feet' off. I would have used it as additional stability by sinking the feet into your wet concrete base as well as then using screws through the base into the concrete.
Well, so far the job of assembling of your greenhouse perfectly matches the perfect Germany engineering! Excellent. Lots of hard labour and loads of fun. Teddy and Poppy supervising and waiting so patiently for their treats. Lovvit! Good going with the sponsorship. Looking forward to seeing the completed project. Take care
Ricky, for future concrete projects, you might want to check out the dry-pour techniques used by the RUclipsrs Cajun Country Living; they've even made a flight of stairs using that technique, and they go into detail of how to do it. It is a far less time-cruchy technique than wet pour!
Oh my! We feel your pain…… we built the exact same greenhouse and used the same materials for the base last year! Instructions what instructions 😂😂. It certainly tested our marriage for a few days! however, we have used it for a year now, and it’s been a game changer. The only piece of advise we would offer is just think about that heat in the summer, as we had to put up a lot of shading all around….. ours is partially shaded buy a huge walnut tree, even the Chili’s suffered in the mega heat. So this year, we are adding an extra permanent piece of wooden structure for the shading. Looking forward to sharing your year with you all. Take care xx
Awwwe. New here. Not sure if you checked in with your subs but there are soooo many greenhouse options that would have been far better for you, larger too. But…you will likely find you will need to have a succession of veg, you will need a hoop house where you can plant directly in the soil. The model you have will be a good start to get a cadence for growing.
I would of just went with a poly tunnel. That green house with its complicated instructions, would of done my head in lol. Well done getting the frame assembled and your foundation built. 👏.
It may be worth starting a compost pile in your garden. I can see that you have loads of dead leaves etc all over. It will help with your growing in the future. Love your videos 👍
Brilliant design comprising an outer cement moat both to anchor the greenhouse and to add a few inches of head room! The window for planting broccoli seeds in pots will close in a few days allowing harvest in mid May before very hot temperatures. The aspect of growing broccoli I loved is all the abundant baby heads that sprout after the main head was harvested.
Sometimes , it's trial and error when planting veggies and fruit. There is a learning curve for you both. The thing that separates you from the amateurs is your willingness and determination. Having a good sense of humor helps. You guys seem to have that. Harriet and I have been done that road before with greenhouses. You will succeed as we did. Sending you both love and affection❤❤❤ Jim, Harriet and Yuki. Richmond, Va.
Man - that is a substantial foundation for that flimsy frame. It should last for the next use. Painting is a primo idea and will, obviously, increase longevity. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, i buildt two of those green houses for my neighbour and me. I screwed some feet to the body frame and fixed them in concrete. This worked very good and the green house is now since six years in my garden, but i ordered it with 4 mm Plexiglas and this was not working ,cause we have also strong winds ( Hamburg ) and after the last storm i ordered some 6 mm windows. These are more solid against the wind pressure. I ordered the windows at a company for Plexiglas cause they were way cheaper than the originals. The dimension are on your plan. Greetings from Hamburg
I love seeing your projects come together. Well done for persevering with german instructions, I doubt I'd have had the patience for it. Bem feito para vocês dois!
You two are doing a great job thoughtfully going at the project,,,,,the time lapse helping the neighbor-stepping away from a project- usually brings clarity. The concrete form looks great!
IF you wanted to you could put a coarse of blocks on top of your foundation that would lift the greenhouse by about a foot ,that would make a big difference to the headroom
Just a word of caution, aluminium is a bugger to get paint to adhere to. May be an idea to get yourselves some rattle can of etching primer, this will help your paint stick to the aluminium. All the best…😊
If you can work together to build the greenhouse, you can accomplish anything❤️. I am about 12 to 14 years behind on most things. I just found out what "faff" means. LOL!! I never had FOMO! 😂🤣
In future when making footings put soil around the wood will stop it bowing out also make the concrete wetter not dry like you did there then you’ll fine it a lot easier to level off. When I used to do concreting inside a fixed area like you had there I would make the concrete so I could pour it out of a bucket into a pile so not that wet that it spreads out flat but spreads out easily with a float. That greenhouse is the same as a ‘Halls Greenhouse’ that you can buy in the UK. Them bolts you can buy them either as you had them or a ‘Cut-off-bolt the is where the head is specially cut so you can fit it in the slot after you have made the greenhouse these are handy for attaching L brackets to hold wires for tying plants up from the roof or if fitting shelf’s after you’ve built the greenhouse, Keep up the good work.
Not bad for a first attempt, well done! 2 things I would have done differently... In-bed some re-bar in the concrete to help reinforce everything and use clamps to hold the form and stop the bulging. but overall good job
Very smart to lay out all parts and get familiar with it. One think I do is get an ice cube tray and put the small items in order with their numbers. I also do items out of order like put on door knobs, drawer tracks, hinges etc. Get the obvious out of the way and you don't lose the little parts.
Well THAT was a project! As usual together you two did a great job. Look forward to seeing it filled with yummy and healthy things to eat❤️. And those oranges! Totally organic and free…I am pea green with envy. Thanks for another great video❤️☮️.
Sweet and lovely couple. Thank you for sharing a bit of your lives with us. Edit: Maybe some pieces of rebar would have been good to avoid cracks in the future due to rain and the soil giving way.
Nice work. I had to pour two concrete pads for some heating units and a pair of tall hot water tanks. Nothing like doing to make you learn. It's always a good idea to use some steel grid -- called malha sol here. Just thin steel grid to keep the concrete from cracking and water getting into the cracks. Also I had to practice sliding a straight board from side to side and forward across the forms to level the surface. Much better than trying to trowel by eyeball.
great job, tips for growing broccoli, its a col weather crop and you need to start your seeds in greenhouse if warm enough, the plant needs a few true leaves before you transplant into the garden bed..
brilliant video folks my heart sank when i saw the rain but fairplay to you both you soldiered on and got through it ! hopefully the storms were,nt to severe and you got it finished !
Ricky, are you the same person who used to help out Theo and Bee from The Indie Projects with their tiny barn conversion? You seem to look familiar. You and Victoria are great, like watching your vlog and the progress you are making.
I just loved this video. You both did a great job setting the foundation and the frame of the green house. Ricky, you over think things too much and can tell your a perfectionist. This was great to watch. Thanks for sharing.
I feel your pain. I brought one then devilsih greenhouses with only miniscule drawings. It took me over 3 months😱 to put together, and then one windy day, it flew away and nearly killed a GNR cop patrolling my area"🙈😱🙄

No point in watching this video because the one I just finished watching is the one you just made a cement step for the hot house that is already completed. On to the next one!!
I think it might have been a good idea to begin with raking all the leaves well clear. PS Dump the spade (backbreaking Brit tool) and get a North American curved , long handled shovel. PS. Great work so far on your greenhouse. I agree with painting it black, aesthetically it’ll look fabulous. Btw with all those oranges, have you tried Tom Kerridges orange and almond cake ( gluten free) , I think you’d like it !
I’m new to your videos. Are you living on the property? What does the larger house look like? Do you guys work away from the farm? AND how does Victoria keep a manicure with all the work she does around the property? Also how long have you been working in this project of yours? I NEED ANSWERS!!! 😂
You two are so easy on ears and eyes, very few youtuber like it, long may it continue 🥰

Good job laying that foundation👏🏽 Looking forward to seeing the greenhouse in position. That was complicated!
Wow!! What a HUGE amount of patience and determination you both have!!! Can’t wait to see the finished greenhouse!! ❤

Nice 🦈 🐶 !! I love your videos, you're so good together.
The greenhouse looks pretty strong to me.
Those puppies are so sweet!
I would of just went with a poly tunnel. That green house with its complicated instructions, would of done my head in lol. Well done getting the frame assembled and your foundation built. 👏.
Nice job you two. A bit of an advice; I would always use rebar in a slab or in a strip footage like your. That will reduce the concrete from cracking.
Loved the shark fin on the dog ....🤣
The amount of work that went into that 1 second shot 😂
If you love broccoli but think it's a bit tricky to grow try growing tender stem broccoli. It's fool proof and just keeps giving! 👍🥦

In the newspaper it said that building wood was down 40%, and now lower than before covid times. In Norway that is.
You 2 made it look easy, hahaha! How nice to start your plants and seeds!
The cement looks perfect to me.
Can't wait to see it all put together.
I love seeing your projects come together. Well done for persevering with german instructions, I doubt I'd have had the patience for it. Bem feito para vocês dois!

Cheers for the tip Barrie. We bought a paint that is suitable for aluminium & says that it doesn’t need a primer…hopefully that’s the case 🤞🏼
If you can work together to build the greenhouse, you can accomplish anything❤️. I am about 12 to 14 years behind on most things. I just found out what "faff" means. LOL!! I never had FOMO! 😂🤣

Your persistence paid off! Good job, especially the concrete base

I helped my neighbour put up a greenhouse… never again LOL . Video Sponsor eh!! Get you two 🤣👍Nice to catch up as always guys 👍❤️🇬🇧
If you wish to raise the height you could always add cinder blocks to the top of your foundation and bolt your greenhouse to those.

Love the outtake at the end. 😅
Great video. Another way you could raise height would be to put in a row or two of concrete blocks for more headroom.

great job, tips for growing broccoli, its a col weather crop and you need to start your seeds in greenhouse if warm enough, the plant needs a few true leaves before you transplant into the garden bed..

I am so happy to have discovered your video's on You Tube. Each one has been refreshing and the two of you are so happy with your move. I can relate in part to some of your struggles as I bought an older house in Mississippi, a English Tudor cottage. I am considerably older than the two of you so I have to hire people to do the work. I am a designer by trade, still working, so I have no problem coming up with ideas and selections for my projects.

It appears your neighbors reach out to you. Maybe it's time for you to share some of your produce when you can. 🤤
I'm surprised you didn't add a bit of rebar incase the ground moves over time and your concrete cracks. Still a job well done 👍
