    Tithing’s not used for people in need. Oof. That whole question was so awkward.

      they literally said fast offerings is used for that. thats the money you pay at the same time as tithing that you would pay for the food that you dont eat during a fast. the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is one of the most charitable religions out there: you can learn more here: www.latterdaysaintcharities.org hope that helped.

      That's what Fast Offerings are used for though. Tithing is used for the Lord's purposes; one example being to help build the church/church services, and Fast Offerings are used to help people in need. A Fast Offering is money that you give to the church (if you're able to; we won't dislike you if you aren't financially able to) on Fast Sunday (and also on any additional day that you decide to fast), which happens (usually) on the first Sunday of every month. Typically families would give at least the amount of money that *would've* been spent on food that day had you not been fasting, but you are always welcome to give more if you so desire. Hope this clears it up! :)
      (edited to add "(and also ... to fast)")

    how come there's so many accounts and they contradict so much?

    • @juliesteimle3867
      @juliesteimle3867 4 года назад +7

      Have you ever told a story in your life to different audiences and recall different things each time? He wasn't a robot or an actor, so he had no lines and it was not a memorized recitation. He was just recalling what was on his mind at the time. They don't contradict, but some parts are different. Nobody's memory is perfect. Also, sometimes you don't tell the entire story, depending on the audience and how much they can handle.

      Julie Steimle yeah but he claimed to see God! How could you change or embellish that story? And how do you forget how old you were when it happened? 😒

    • @BrendonKing
      @BrendonKing 4 года назад

      Julie Steimle did he only hear a voice? Did he see one person? Did he see a host of angels? Did he see a pillar of flame? Did he see two persons? These are all bits that contradict and contrast in the different accounts.

      Brendon King I saw something. I don’t disclose everything to everyone who asks, because it’s not something I take lightly. It’s not that I change my story, but I sometimes leave out parts intentionally when I’m recounting the story, depending on how much I think people want to hear, and how ready I think they are. If all the stories were exactly the same, I would be very suspicious. Joseph Smith’s behavior is exactly what I would expect from someone who saw something like that.

      Good question, Martha. Here's a quick video on this exact subject: ruclips.net/video/RGJ0aFO6nbo/видео.html
      Also some personal thoughts: Scholar Don Bradley (who we've had on the show) believes Joseph's vision was an Endowment-like experience, similar to the experience of Peter, James, & John on the Mount of Transfiguration. Notice the similar wording from their experience in Mark chapter 9:
      "And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came our of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him."
      Then, notice the instruction Peter, James, and John received after this experience (verse 9):
      "And as they came down from the mountain, he [Jesus] charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead."
      Joseph was likely told to keep many details of his similar experience confidential. That may be why statements from Joseph about this experience are so few and far-between, and why he omits details from some of them (of course, this theory could also be combined with the fact that he's sometimes recalling the event decades after-the-fact). I suspect that many *more* things happened at Joseph's First Vision than we're aware of, as is hinted at in Joseph Smith's History:
      "...and many other things did he [Jesus] say unto me, which I cannot write at this time."
      Also, the answers from Julie Steimle and Abby C were great.

    Horses, cattle, oxen, sheep, swine, goats, elephants, wheels, chariots, wheat, silk, steel, and iron did not exist in pre-Columbian America during Book of Mormon times. Why are these things mentioned in the Book of Mormon as being made available in the Americas between 2200 BC - 421 AD?
    Unofficial apologists claim victories in some of these items but closer inspection reveals significant problems. It has been documented that apologists have manipulated wording so that steel is not steel, sheep become never-domesticated bighorn sheep, horses become tapirs, etc.

      I have a question. Do Mormons believe in Spiritism?

    • @TBIhope
      @TBIhope 4 года назад +3

      systematicrisk wow, that’s not even on topic. But whatever. Okay, imagine you were an astronaut. You found some videos from an ancient, extinct group of humans from another world. You saw them harvesting and eating something, but they called it chjckrp. You know that no one will know what chjckrp is if you write chjckrp, and you’re trying to tell the people you know about this ancient culture. You don’t have space in your intergalactic telegram to write a detailed explanation of what it is, so you just put “grain.” Does that make you a liar? It’s not grain. Grain only describes certain earth-crops. Try to be reasonable. God gave Joseph Smith the power to understand an ancient text, but God also wants us to be able to help ourselves when possible. I think God must enjoy our different personalities, and the different ways we figure out how to solve problems.

      Anthony Nunez no. We don’t believe in reincarnation. But you know that. So why did you ask the question? I actually want to know.

      Ah yes, the good ol' "anachronisms" questions. It would take a very very long time to dive into each and every claim critics have made about anachronisms in the Book of Mormon, but this video provides a good summary for those interested: ruclips.net/video/kGSEBwZMpsA/видео.html
      As this thread has nothing to do with the topic of this video, I suggest moving further comments about it to the video I've linked. Of course, you're free to do as you please.
