    G'day all!! We are BACK! Yes I know you can get far cheaper places in Siem Reap. However given our short visit, our need for a 2br and the location I wanted - this was the price range we were dealing with and comfortable spending. So which one do you reckon we chose? If you have been following along our FB or Instagram...you prob know already ;)

      G'day Simon! Cheers - glad you enjoyed that video!
      I was actually amazed how many options there are in SR for rentals. If you were here for a long time you could really take your time and find the perfect place. The rental market (in fact the entire housing market) in Oz is next level horrific!
      Cheers mate!

      Funny about the lift - would have been nice to know about ha! Also, seems like a lot of landlords/property custodians there are a beer short of a 6 pack haha! Cheers mate !

    Is there anywhere in SR where Aussie expats or even any expats hang out, as new visitors will need some help finding accommodation, good eateries and just general do's and don't s. i couldn't just rock up and wing it, a bit of planning is a must for me..

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  11 месяцев назад

      G'day Steve - all good questions mate - lots of which I don't have answers for to be honest due to having family in SR! There are a lot of good expat Facebook groups about Cambodia/Siem Reap which have a lot of info on them - from what i have seen they are pretty useful. Otherwise I make sure you have check out the channel @ForRiel. They have so much useful info about moving to and living in SR as an expat. From accommodation to banking to great things to do and places to eat.
      In terms of do's and Don'ts - Common sense goes a long way in Cambodia!
      If you have any specific though questions feel free to throw them our way and we will help where we can!
      Cheers mate!

      G'day Sean! Yes mate they are in the video itself - first was $650, second was $550 and the last one was $800! As we were only looking for short term rental these prices are inflated compared to what you would get if staying for 12 months or longer. Cheers mate and hope you enjoy our videos!

    Much too much space to have to cool and pay for ! --- You either pay a fortune -- or -- suffer with the extreme heat ? = No thanks !!! - - - 2 people - a couple - have no "need" for all that. For me by myself or even a couple - I would want a studio or just 1 br.

      There you go Frank! Everyone has different needs and if a one bedder suits you fine then all good in the good! If we were staying longer there would have been more options and dare i say...probably a lot cheaper! Cheers mate!

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  4 месяца назад

      G'day Wes, yeah none of this was a cheap exercise unfortunately. We only needed 3 months so that limited our rental options and the ones that were available that ticked all of our boxes were not cheap at all! If staying for longer there will be more options available, and they will be easier on the wallet too. Cheers!

      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  8 месяцев назад

      Hey Sean - these prices were all for a short term stay - if we were looking to move for 12 months or more the rates do improve. Having said that....(spoiler alert) and after living in the first place - yes. It was absolutely over priced!! Check out the video we did on that apartment - was a poor decision by us! Cheers for watching mate!

    Funny how small SR is. Also when me and the Mrs were apartment hunting back in June, we checked the place directly opposite the first one you looked at, actually also looked at the second one you saw (but the one bedroom version), and ended up getting a place one block from the third one.
    I notice Jeremy and Claire neglected to mention bathroom sink-pissability in their rental checklist. Screw fans and windows, this is the *real* deal breaker!

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  11 месяцев назад

      Haha that is classic! What did you think of the one on Taphul Rd? It looked like they would cop the sun in the evening. Mate I am going to have to add that bathroom sink-pissability criteria next time we inspect somewhere!! Assume you have tested this rigorously in your travels??

    I'd choose NONE of them. I'd say consider your lifestyle more thoroughly in Cambodia, determine needs from wants, replace expense with other ways of living, and keep frugal. This way, you'll not throw loy, to capitalists, taking the p''' out of tourists, and sending prices sky high for others !

    • @MarcsMildlyInteresting
      @MarcsMildlyInteresting  10 месяцев назад

      That's cool Ted - everyone has different needs and budgets! We were only in country for a short time - not to live. The rental propositions for both scenarios are vastly different - and these were the best available at the time that met our needs. Also, given we have a little one were happy to pay for the convenience of being close to town and our families village. Have you stayed in SR long term before? Cheers! Marc

    • @tedandy2114
      @tedandy2114 10 месяцев назад

      Yes, I understand. I live in PP'. SR' is okay, but I find it a bit tame and boring, plus it's out of the way, not really central, to moving around Cambodia. You might try Kampot, to be more central towards travel, and prices in some ways, more SR'- like

    • @tedandy2114
      @tedandy2114 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@MarcsMildlyInteresting
      I've stayed in SR' and Kampot short-term, over the years, but lived in Sihanoukville long-term, before it was wrecked by the Chinese. I have lived many times in PP' and am more long-term in PP' now, I have visited Prey Veng many times, where in theory, I partly own a house there. I've spent time out on the islands and at Ream. Over the years, I've seen massive changes in Cambodia, but what really p'''ss me off, is they're capitalising by greed, while local khmers mite not even have a dollar for food, not a place to stay; they're living on the streets. As new tourists your accomodation should be nice, but long-term, you'd probably realise how you're being ripped-off. Tourists pay for greed and the Khmer people must feel sick at what they see. I stay frugal, and keep things minimalistic, and therefore, can sometimes give here and there, to those khmers who clearly have nothing.
