Yup, right choice. I know you thought large bedroom, slow to cool but, those big windows will allow good breeze to keep moisture out because black mould is a real problem and a health hazard (like you saw at other place) Good choice, I voted on #1.
NICE!!!! I'm glad we're on the same page. The breeze and air flow is magnificent here... 3 nights in already and I rarely, if ever use the air-con. I know it's rainy season, so it's cooler temps right now, but I really don't think I'll need to use air-con that much... thankfully!! In my last apartment, I had three types of mold and it affected my health, so I know the smell right away. I avoid it like the plague!
@@juliahaw specially the black mould, can cause lung disease, people aren't aware of many illnesses it causes, often it's the cause of child hood asthma.
I could live in a bamboo hut in the middle of a rice paddy field all my life and still be happy.Since impermanent are all things in life anyway,i don't really need any permanent structure as far as living space goese.I don't need Buckingham Palace, any dwelling with running water will do for me.I suppose women requires more.Good luck on your hunt Julia....😁
It is, generally - but when renting, it can be as high as .25 cents/hour. This is very normal unfortunately. I think it helps cover the light costs for the entire building as well (exterior and such).
@@knockknock1246 haha 30 was an understatement for sure. Not sure what I was thinking when I said that. I'm guessing, even with little air-con that it'll be more around $50-70.
If you run the air a lot it could be up to $100 for electric depending on the size area you cool ? It supposedly gets really hot and it's very humid too. -- That a is a consideration for my retirement. Between there and the Philippines. Low costs and visa ease are my top 2 priorities. For me a furnished (small) frugal studio with ac hot water & a flush toilet are essential. Internet cell service and some TV & I'll be a "happy camper" mingling with some fat & sassy expats from all over the world solving all the problems with humanity !
haha! You could EASILY find a studio here for around $150, no problem. If you're looking for frugal! I just saw a really nice studio the other day for $250 (that's top end for a studio, but it's located in Wat Bo). I never use AC so my electric bill is $20/month or so. As for a small studio with AC... I think you could run it and turn it off in intervals and still keep it around $40/month if you crank it. Best of wishes!!!
I'm not sure what it is at the moment... but my landlord had to report my presence here in the building. So Cambodia is working to keep track of expats living here. x
@@juliahaw I think that it's a good direction through which to investigate and then discuss opacity in immigration as something expats in Cambodia need to come to terms with ;) I haven't been here long enough to know all the details myself.
@@hellsente7826 I think the opacity will be a good way to weed out people here for the wrong reasons as I do believe the government is cracking down on sex trade industry and the darker sides like this, no?
@@juliahaw That is apparently the purpose behind the system's implementation. The government has been showing some signs of results recently, perhaps improving some pretty shocking trends toward human trafficking situation. For foreigners trying to understand what is involved in moving to or staying in Cambodia, the FPCS is a thing which isn't well understood and understanding about it isn't shared. Opacity... the lack of understanding on account of information not being available... doesn't help us have healthy relationships with landlords or have less negative judgements or reactions toward immigration when we are told that no, we actually can't renew our VISAs because we weren't registered in their system... misfortune, drama, suffering, antagonism, etc. Retirees don't really need to deal with the problem. English teachers often have their employers organize if for them. Everyone else? Trust the random agent. There's no conversation amongst expats, at least none available outside of social groups, and so it is something that really needs to be discussed. Those who don't need it don't talk about it, those who get by their own way only discuss it within their own personal context, and everyone else is left out... the list of things you should have known before moving to Cambodia but no one will tell you gets longer. It isn't great for becoming a pseudo realestate agent or marketing vlogger, but addressing this is being of legitimate service to those who want to consider the example you yourself are setting, Julie.
I'm actually unsure. In my opinion I think it's pretty relaxed. Most of my expat friends have motorbikes. There is a law to wear a helmet, otherwise the cops are stationed around intersection/bridge areas and will fine you $5. I think you can rent one monthly too for around $60. As far as I know, all systems go! I myself ride a regular bicycle and this suits me fine for in town. For longer day trips around the countryside you can always rent a motorbike!
@@juliahaw - Having lived in the Bun Kao Guesthouse for 2 months in Siem Reap back in May of 2016, I can say that your choice is far superior to mine. It's OK if you don't completely "fit in." I'm literally an alien... hehe! But really... there is such thing as an "expat tax" or "visitor tax." You just have to feel it out -- have your cousin buy certain items for you, or go around with you at first, so that locals know they charge you the "local" price. I know when I'm being overcharged, and I haggle within reason. Haggling is a way of existence here. You know when to do it, and when to back off. Best of luck -- I say visit as SOON as you can. SR is looking GORGEOUS!!!!!!

Hi Julia and welcome to Siem Reap. I'm a little confused so perhaps you can clarify...did you not rent that first apartment? I see it on Facebook for rent but with a different agent, not IPS. I'm asking as I'm currently looking myself. Is it possible for you to give me Juu's contact info? Thanks!
It may just still be listed. Very strange. I'm pretty sure all the apartments in this building are occupied now. You can add Juu on Telegram @ +855962637568 . Just tell her you found her through Julia. She can send you 10+ or so options within your budget range. Best of luck in your hunt!!!
Excellent vid. Well done. So, many RUclips folks showing condos/apartments fail to even provide proper contact info. for the companies that rent out the units they show in the vids. Kind of funny.... Why even bother to do a "viewing" vid if people don't even know how to make contact. I will be checking out this ips company now for a possible two month rental Dec. 1 - Jan. 31. I live in Chiang Mai now, but love Siem Reap also. Thanks
Got love it, SE Asia. If that apartment was in Australia you would be viewing it with 40+ couples wanting it too, and you would have put in the highest offer. Which would be 4x as much then offer 5x to be in the running to get it. Oh the couple moving must show proof of both full-time employed for over a year, the simplicity of getting a place to live in SEAsia is so easy, with the furniture and appliances.
Hi Stephen! Thank you for watching! It's so so similar in the US right now. The market has literally GONE OFF THE RAILS. There are actually HUGE companies buying real estate, taking over the market, so now families can hardly even afford to buy homes. It's really shitty honestly. The ease with which you can rent a place here makes it a great way of living -- I'm primarily an oil painter. While I adore NYC the rents have also just gotten out of control. I DO know, having stayed in Byron Bay, Oz for a year on and off that the rents were absolutely WILD... and WEEKLY -- why!? hahah So I hear you on all of this. Best wishes to you! Australia is one of the most wildly beautiful places I've ever been...

@@desireeherrmann910 I'd love to meet up with you! Are you learning yoga in Rishikesh? I went to a yoga school in Dharamshala and it was amazing....
Yup, right choice. I know you thought large bedroom, slow to cool but, those big windows will allow good breeze to keep moisture out because black mould is a real problem and a health hazard (like you saw at other place)
Good choice, I voted on #1.
@@juliahaw the area has a calming look too, the hardwood flooring I saw in master bedroom sold me as well.
First one looks good
Fly wire screens on windows would help, mozzies etc etc.
I thought someone said electricity was 12 cents per kilowatt hour... ?
It is, generally - but when renting, it can be as high as .25 cents/hour. This is very normal unfortunately. I think it helps cover the light costs for the entire building as well (exterior and such).
@@juliahaw Let's see what your bill is. You expect 30 bucks but my guess is...
@@knockknock1246 haha 30 was an understatement for sure. Not sure what I was thinking when I said that. I'm guessing, even with little air-con that it'll be more around $50-70.
@@juliahaw a hondo for sure. Lol
Hi Julia what about jobs opportunities in the teaching field in seim Reap any reference
Great work. Thank you
Thank you for watching!
I should be going there next year hopefully maybe we will meet up
Are you still in siem reap cambodia or you traveling
Living in Thailand
I find AC is only essential April,May.Hottest months. For the rest of the year, a fan is fine.
What is the Foreigner Presence in Cambodia System?
I'm not sure what it is at the moment... but my landlord had to report my presence here in the building. So Cambodia is working to keep track of expats living here. x
@@juliahaw I think that it's a good direction through which to investigate and then discuss opacity in immigration as something expats in Cambodia need to come to terms with ;)
I haven't been here long enough to know all the details myself.
Good choice
If a/c is at US prices, we’d need a couple hundred a month for electric.
What's the deal/laws for foreigner on how to ride a motorcycle around Siem Reap?
I'm actually unsure. In my opinion I think it's pretty relaxed. Most of my expat friends have motorbikes. There is a law to wear a helmet, otherwise the cops are stationed around intersection/bridge areas and will fine you $5. I think you can rent one monthly too for around $60. As far as I know, all systems go! I myself ride a regular bicycle and this suits me fine for in town. For longer day trips around the countryside you can always rent a motorbike!
@@juliahaw ••••• oh, cool.
no licence needed there?
Best of luck

Hi there!!! Awesome -- I'm so glad you like my apartment choice! It feels like home now. :)
@@juliahaw - Having lived in the Bun Kao Guesthouse for 2 months in Siem Reap back in May of 2016, I can say that your choice is far superior to mine. When I come back to Siem Reap soon, I’ll definitely consider your choice along with 2 others. Glad you feel at home there now. Have you checked out the Red Piano restaurant on one of the corners there in Pub Street? Try the Penang Chicken Curry. Best I’ve had anywhere in the world! Bon apetite! 😎

Come back home! SR is so dreamy!
I talk to my cousin maybe twice a week thru Facebook messenger. He's from Cambodia. I don't kno if u kno, but is it true if Cambodian ppl knows that if we're from the states, they'll charged us more for things? 🤔 I told my cousin that I'll try to fit in if I ever visit lol. But I prob won't 😂😭

See you in Nov. ;-) ☕️ is on me!

This is a great recc Zoltan! I've taught myself everything from ground up so I'm adding that to the list. Cheers!
why leave the states? beautiful eyes.
$250 include gym and swimming pool with a big room size in it ? OMG no fucking way
Excellent vid.
Thanks
I will contact you, Julia 😘 I plan to settle in SR (I have lived 10 months in Kampot last year), Lionel
Hi julia
LOL !! A green orange ? Is that not a lime ? Don't some asian cuisines use lime juice ? LOL
