I was a Peace Corps volunteer in the DR from 1988 to 1990. I can't believe how much Santo Domingo has changed. I don't even recognize it. When I was there, the only tall buildings in the entire city were the Jaragua, the Sheraton and the Hotel Cervantes. That's was it. I hope the development has helped the average Domincan.

Really? A good sign for what? The only thing I can that it is a good sign for disaster. I have heard that many of the Russians that are arriving to the DR are questionable and seedy characters. Are those the kinda people we want?
Tourism is currently one of the most important economic and cultural activities that a country or a region can count with.
This activity is very important because it helps with the movement and the economic reactivation that it generates in the specific region in which it is carried out. So, all countries and regions of the world count on tourism as an economic activity that generates jobs, infrastructure works, development of gastronomic and hotel establishments, growth of the air, land and sea transportation, etc.
Now, let me ask you something.
If it's true what you are saying. ¿Do you think these bad people that you say are coming to our country are worse than the people of our government (not all of them), or the criminals we already have here?
Think about it buddy.
You made a good argument, and although what you state is all find and dandy, its besides the point. I agree, we have an abundant supply of native born unscrupulous people, but do we need more? We most definitely don't want to import people who can potentially hurt us.
Its no secret and well known that the Russians have refined the art of corruption. Their corruption is a significant problem impacting all aspects of life, including public administration, law enforcement, healthcare and education. They are far more sophisticated then any of us could ever be. So you can Imagine what these foreign trained minds can contribute and achieve within the country. I don't want to even think about it. If their actions ever take root in the country, we can imagine the unintended collateral damage to make us far worse then what we are already.
The point is this and a reality we must accept, tourism is a double edge sword, along with its many blessings its usually accompanied by a curse. Although tourist bring in much-needed cash, certain types along with their money, can also have a negative impact on our people. The adverse social effects can potentially be quite detrimental, which in real terms holds back true economic progress.
I am not saying that we should discourage Russian immigration. What I am saying however is that before we get all excited about the growth of Russian tourism, it should be closely monitored, increase vigilance and have greater awareness about who we are letting in as guest. However, easier said then done. Regardless, we need to be selective before we rush to accept and take the money. We might be selling our souls to the devil.
The biggest problem we have is our weak institutions but most significantly the lack of planning. In the DR everything is done on the basis of short term results without seriously taking into consideration the long term consequences. We have very little controls set in place and before we let things run amok, and allow anarchy to rein, lets think and plan ahead about how we can take advantage of this new Russian market in a manner that will create a positive impact for the DR and its people not only now but also future generations to come. That's all I'm saying and I've said enough.

Очень большой и красивый город, особенно смотрится океан возле него. Больше понравились небольшие домики на берегу, хотя в небоскребах можно наблюдать красивейшие рассветы и закаты. Можно зайти на корабле в порт, пополнить запасы и продолжить путешествие. Красотой этого города можно только восхищаться и ставить другим в пример. Я в такой город с удовольствием переехал, по ближе к океану.

Очень прекрасное видео, просто супер! На берегу лазурного моря раскинулся чудесный город Santo Domingo.Тут очень красивые пейзажи и старинные памятники архитектуры. Ну очень красивое место! Здесь есть много достопримечательностей, разные музеи, зоопарк, аквариум и многое другое. Тут в Santo Domingo можно полюбоваться старинными зданиями, посмотреть дом Колумба. В Santo Domingo есть подземные озёра, это довольно милый и умиротворяющий уголок природы в мегаполисе. Рядом с озерами находится небольшой сад, эдакий кусочек тропических джунглей, там можно немного прогуляться. Вообще город шикарный и удивительно прекрасный...

Como es 4K no le dire que la imagen es clara, las tomas son muy malas donde apreciamos en óxido de los techos debió irse al centro en la zona más comercial ohh y no elevar tanto el dron porque sobresalen los techos sin pintura oxidados. Y no es para apreciar saludos.
Los techos rojos son mi idea, por supuesto que eran de un color diferente, ¡pero yo lo quería de esa manera!

Actualmente RD es el país con mejor economía y desarrollo del Caribe, el segundo en Centro América y la economía número 7 de toda Latinoamérica y vamos a seguir creciendo si seguimos con un buen turismo, industrias y nos enfocamos en la educación

Not impressed at all, nothing but ugly buildings, contaminated river with an old bridge! It looks like a concrete jungle with not vegetation or palm trees. The video didn't show any interesting sites. It failed to take a better view of the city. It was disappointing this video, I felt like I didn't learn anything about the city.
