    I might have commented on one of your other videos that I am doing an amethyst dragonborn wizard (conjurer) and currently at 6th level. I am using some of the spells from Fitzban. Another idea I came up with today is emerald dragonborn psi-warrior because of their breath weapon. It may end up not working out too well down the road if the immunity
    esistance to psychic double up. One question I have is does the half-dragon template in the MM work for gem dragons? Half-dragons are mention a decent amount in Fitzban but nothing really new beyond origin stories.

    Hi Chaos! how's it going?
    from an optimizer's POV, i dislike the whole con dc breath weapon. thankfully, there's a feat called dragon fear. now with the new breath weapon mechanic of allowing it to be used instead of an extra attack now martial attackers that can use cha as an attack stat (hexblade, magic stone, shillelagh from tomelock) can add a control option (frightened). the extra uses make this a sustainable tactic.
    while i prefer gem dragons for flavor, for the above tactic, i'd pick metallic dragonborn for an extra use of dragon fear. the above is especially fun on cha based bladesingers as now they can frighten and cast cantrips like eldritch blast with their attack action.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  2 года назад

      Oh hell yeah!! That turns out a bit specific but I’m sure those builds turn that into bread and butter! Now that all this stuff has changed, I don’t feel nearly as bad about not having dark vision as a Dragonborn-even if it would make sense lore-wise.

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 2 года назад +1

      @@ConstructedChaos yeah tbh it's weird that they don't have darkvision. it kind of steers dragonborn to be certain casters so they can gain it like warlock (devil's sight), twilight cleric, shadow sorc or basically any caster class that can cast darkvision. if they wanted to be martials, they'd be forced to pick up the blind fighting style and play in melee.

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 2 года назад +2

      i think flight is always great for utility but for combat i think that's DM dependent. a DM who always structures combats with diversity (there's always ranged attackers or casters) will find flight doesn't do much unless you have a higher base speed while flying.
      personally, i'm never going to use those breath weapons unless i somehow have a build that has con as the main stat (like some sort of rune knight magic missile build). i'll always be converting those breath attacks to dragon fear (with a cha as the main stat) and if that's the case, i'd pick metallic for the extra use before a long rest.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  2 года назад +1

      At least you’re even tempted to use breath weapons now! Before it was just a waste of an action by the time you got beyond 5th level or so.

    • @marshallwilver9848
      @marshallwilver9848 2 года назад +1

      I don’t know I think it would be a pretty good use of an attack now. I don’t think it is overpowered or anything but if you’re hitting three possibly more with it it’s doing pretty good damage and more than one of your weapon strikes usually. Granted it is on three targets instead of focusing fire which is usually a better strategy. But that’s more what I’m saying with the flight is out of combat. If a build is planning on using the breath weapon anyways flying doesn’t matter that much in combat because you have to be within 15 feet. Unless you’re just strafing through the air whilst using the breath weapon. I played an aberrant mind sorcerer in my last campaign and the telepathic speech came in quite useful a couple times and this one just seems like an upgraded version. Not a sole reason to pick this race but a really good ribbon feature. All together I really like the package. I think I might give the amethyst Dragonborn some thought for one of my next campaigns. Perhaps a barbarian could be cool. Con boosting your ac too seems pretty decent. Also had an idea of doing a dragonborn way of the ascendant dragon monk. If I’m reading it right you could multiattack with breath weapons. Not super strong but seems fun to me.

I seen player after player playing paladins become a control freak about the other pc's morality. You can't have a rogue in the same group with a paladin.
