You're a lucky man to have a welding buddy like that, and working for him to pay the way. So you say you are going to keep something... probably have it sold before the video comes out!
I think the nomads are my favorite boats. There is a guy on RUclips that did a video on one named the Vamoose which really turned me onto the nomad. I think your plan is great.
I have seen you get in to some very shallow conditions where a poling platform could be very handy. It could prevent you from having to get in the water and pull. If you leave a boat in Fla it could pay for itself in fuel savings in a few years by not having to pull one back and forth. As long as you don't have to pay storage. But leaving it in the care of a master aluminum welder might not be a bad idea. He worked wonders on your other one.
hello from the cool Ozarks Brenton! What a great find! dont see any nimbals on the lakes here. its great to have spare boats and transportation. thats why i keep rvs and boats in different places to pick up and go without towing and saves a ton of fuel and insurance $$$.looking forward of your review on your completed parts of your boat. great to have a craftsman available ! tightlines Brenton!
Dang Brenton,I do love the Nimble Nomad for sure. I don't blame you for keeping it. I wish I had jumped sooner but life circumstances just don't coincide at the moment. She's already a beauty and going to be spectacular when you get finished!
Thanks for the close ups, Benton! I see now how it mounts, and is built. If only I could weld aluminum.....I can build that out of steel, but...... Keep the NOMAD!
Great video my man. Another cool craft you are putting together there. Those are really classic boats. Hope everything thing goes well for you and Wavy. Take care 👍
Great video Brenton! You have great taste in boats. Keep up the good work. I have always found it good to have a friend that can weld aluminum. Thanks!
The top two of my favorite trailerable pocket trawlers!!! Looking forward to your Vagabond review, Brenton; as well as laying on a nice coat of paint on that Nomad. All the best to you and Wavey!
Question...I have seen these Nomads on the Great Loop and have always wondered...what happens when you catch a wave and flood the forward cockpit? On our Loop, we ran into these kind of conditions unavoidably a few times in our Ranger 25 and got me to wondering....keep up the great videos.
There are cockpit scuppers on front and rear cockpits that drain just fine. They have one way valves so water goes out easily without coming in. One on each side of the front drains well and the rears do a good job as seen in the pressure washing. The front outside flapper valves can be replaced easily and the rear scuppers can be bought from west marine or Amazon pretty cheaply as they are not native to Nimbles (common parts.)
Yes, more/less what grouch said ;) the sides of the Nomad are extremely high (makes it a hard boat to get in and out of) honestly, I think the front could be swamped and it wouldn't sink the boat. Getting the interior swamped might get you in trouble.
I know your buddy! He helped me with the cast iron swing keel shoes on my Chrysler C26. Difficult task removing frozen sheared off bolts. He was reasonable with his charges.
Brenton how many projects do you have going now? This boat, your Scamp, your house and ?? The power wash of the Nomad was crazy! You paint the bottom portion (hull?) and it will look brand new! Hope the interior is still in good shape! You say you wont sell it but you will. 🤭
I definitely have too many projects Goldie. I'm trying to stop taking on more and dealing with the ones I have. The Scamp will get done and sold this summer;)
Flipping brilliant man! Love it…I know you kind of shun the bigger trawler but I picked mine up for a crazy good price..and I know there is more expense for a bigger boat but I think (hope at least) if I live on mine it may be comparable (on some scale?lol) to having more than one? I keep learning (a lot from your channel thanks!!!..and fun to watch)
Pure blood (good name) the problem is it would then have to be insured...and that's big bucks. People would inevitably run it into stuff and like renting a house or car...becomes a lose more than a gain. There are folks who rent them on the Erie canal.
If Gas goes over $20.00 a gallon, I'm expecting to see some oar locks somewhere? p.s. Great vid/yer makin us drool with anticipation/love the Pirate Music in the background!
Every Nimble I've ever seen has dark-colored paint and it's always terribly oxidized with that white chalky residue. Unless there are better paints today than they used when those were made, go with white. Just a suggestion from a random guy on the internet.
@@7drtydog8 I sold it for $11.5k which as far as I can tell is the best deal on a nomad left in the country. They only built approx 140 of them and they've only gotten more desirable since then. This one is a project, but nothing a decently skilled person can handle. I wish I had 10 more! ;)
Cheap? There doesn't seem to be a lot of cheap trailerable trawlers around anymore. A nomad without a trailer did just sell down in Florida this summer for 5k. That was an amazing deal

Me too ;) they're coming less and less. The first nomad I found and bought (2017) I paid 4700 bucks. With a low hour Honda!

What happened to the little burro camper trailer you had?, The Nomad has an active Facebook group.
Oh all the fiberglass campers I've found have been sold except for a scamp I picked up last year. They're also gotten hard to find

Yes it's true, the green Nimble used on 99% of their boats oxidized badly. I like it myself (Patina)
I like that
Thanks man. Special boats made right in Florida
Can that 40 get the boat up on plane?
No they are a displacement boat.
The Nimbles are non planing hulls. If you go much past hull speed, they just squat or plow. Designed to go slow...around 5-8 mph
Did you sell the nomad yet? I’d be interested in buying!
