I've been watching a LOT of tarantula videos over the past year . I've been subscribed to several for quite a while . This is the first time I've come across your channel . Guess I'll be subscribing to one more shortly . Very informative . Now I have another thing to worry about .
I'm trying to find help for my tarantula she has nematodes I can see them coming out of her mouth and she won't eat even though she just molted about 3 weeks ago. I was hoping I could find the link for these medicines but I can't find it
Thanks for this video. I hope mine never gets them. You make such great informative videos. I look forward to them each week. I have a question ???? Can you make a video or comment please if you have time. I’m worried that I won’t be able to get crickets due to so many stores closing because of the virus. I only have one T and I’m new to having one. She is a Pink Toe Avic. I know T don’t eat premolt and after a Molt. What happens if I can’t get crickets? I buy 3 at a time and feed the crickets the cricket orange cube and dry food I got at the store as well as fruit or potato. But they only live about 2 weeks. I don’t think if I stock up that they will live long enough. Can a T go weeks (or months) without food if they are not premolt or just not eating. I worry if she is hungry and needs food will she be ok?? I have never tried to feed worms or roaches. Haven’t even seen them at the pet shop. I read somewhere that a guy fed wet dog food. Is that ok? Thanks for any suggestions you can share. I’m very grateful. I love my T her name is Misty. I’m the one who told you about her losing a leg last month during a Molt. She is fine thank god. Have a good day.
NaturesFairy so glad my videos are helpful to you! Your concern is valid! I’ve also found the crickets don’t live very long. Since switching to roaches I’ve found they live the longest and reproduce quickly so you will soon have a colony and not have to worry about buying them lol. What I’ve done when I can’t get to a store is buy online. There are a lot of great places, I get mine from illexotics.com. However in the worst case scenario of you can’t buy online, your tarantula will likely be fine if it cannot way for a few weeks. My spiders can go months without eating and as long as you give them water they will be ok. So just do what you can. If you can’t purchase any online, your spider will be fine until you get to a store. Hope that helps! Oh and NO wet dog food! Lol
Tarantula Heaven thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. Being a new T owner I get worried because I don’t know much. You are also so kind. I am in a few T groups and some of the people are so mean to us newbies. I’m trying to learn but they make it so I won’t ask questions. Thanks for the link. I have not seen roaches but will ask. If they escape will they take over your house??
NaturesFairy you’re welcome! In my experience the roaches don’t really try to escape. I keep them in a small kritter keeper I got on amazon but you can use any plastic container as long as it isn’t too shallow. As long as you give them food (I feed them apples and potatoes) they usually stay on the bottom and are happy lol
I have 3 T's, 4 toads, and a bearded dragon so insects are important, so I started my own dubia colony that I have now had for 5 years. I never have to purchase feeders again and I know that they are kept in a clean enclosure and fed good things such as fruits and veggies. I recommend trying this. Crickets, especially store bought, are not something I personally recommend. There have been some discussions that because crickets cannibalize and are subjected to bacteria with the way they are raised, some have said DKS may be related. I will say, I am a bit overrun with dubias from time to time because they reproduce faster than my animals eat them, but I just give them to others for free. :P
Will they not eat the entire time they have nemotodes parasites? Or at some point they stop eating? Where do harmful parasites come from? What age can you administer the drugs? How long do the nemotodes or other parasites take to develop? What do you do about other parasites? Are there drugs for other parasites? How do you administer those? I'm so worried about mine.
These are SUCH good questions! And I wish I had more answers :( Luckily although nematodes are very serious for tarantulas, they are very rare. We aren't quite sure what causes these parasites but people who have experience with nematodes have observed that these parasites do stop the tarantula from eating and causes them to starve to death :(
So my adult female Poecilotheria Metallica just recently molted like a couple months ago, she hasn't eaten since but before she molted she ate fine and had a good size abdomen, after she molted her abdomen is still a good healthy size but she hasn't eaten yet, probably just cause she recently molted right?
@@TarantulaHeaven definitely not dehydrated, I put a male in there with her also and she acted aggressive towards him so I'm thinking it's just because she recently molted
Does anyone else know what the white stuff could be bc idk if it is nematodes and I'm concerned bc I just got a pink toe tarantula and am trying to do my best to take care of it
It could be nematodes but sometimes white stuff also appears in your Ts enclosure and it's their poop/pee. If it's near their mouth I would be concerned.
Hi! I breed madagascar hissing roaches and I bred dubia roaches for my tarantulas. Unfortunately in the dubia colony nematode infection appeared and I have to kill it. I am afraid infection would occour also in the madagascar colony/spiders. Do you now any medicine that I can give them for example in their food or water to get rid of nematodes in the early phase?
Oh no! So sorry to hear this, how frustrating. If you can get the dubias away from the spiders, that would be great bc you never know how easily they could spread. I am not sure about a medicine, tbh it seems like we need a lot more research in this area :( I found this video interesting but maybe not necessarily what you're looking for ruclips.net/video/74BbVxq-218/видео.html
Welp, my Ts are going to have to deal with fake plants, then. I've debated crating vivariums because they're 1) gorgeous and 2) would seem to create a more natural environment for the little guys but FORGET THAT! Everyone I know with a vivarium uses nematodes as their garbage men. With my luck, I'd end up getting the wrong kind and *oops* there go my spiders, LOL. Thanks for the great info!!! I'm so glad you made this video!
So glad it was helpful! I know some use real plants very successfully, but I think it requires much more maintenance and you must really know what you're doing.
@@TarantulaHeaven I can grow absolutely anything outside. Inside, though? HA! I'll stick with the fake ones :P I sincerely thank you for helping me dodge THAT bullet!
I had 2 ts, one of which was a sling I bought from an expo around a month ago. It didn’t eat the entire time I had it, and then it died yesterday morning with white stuff around its mouth. I wasn’t home at the time so I never got a look at it before he threw it out. So just in case, I want to make sure my skeleton doesn’t have nematodes, but she stopped taking food as well. It has been awhile since she molted and it’s almost winter, but I want to be sure. Do you know of any methods for caring for nematodes before the tarantula shows symptoms?
Oh my goodness I am so sorry to hear that :( What a terrible thing to go through. I'm not so sure about preventable care before symptoms show up unfortunately :( I honestly don't think much is known about prevention.
@@TarantulaHeaven alright thanks for the info. Now that I've heard a bit more from my dad who was caring for it while I wasn't home, I don't really think it's nematodes. He said that the white stuff was all along it's body, and it turned brown after awhile and the tarantula seemed to partially deflate. I really have no idea what happened to it🥲
My tarantula Cindy has white stuff around her mouth. She isn't restless. She is stable, her place doesn't smell, and she kicks hairs still/tries to get away. I offered her a dubia today and I can't find it anywhere so I think she took it but now I'm extremely worried about it. She is my first ever tarantula.🥲
Are the white spots moving? I'm not sure what that could be! Could be debris but I might be concerned about mites. Im glad she is eating though, that's a good sign.
Boil all and any new substrate and or freshly picked things from nature before using them! Sterilisation! Get clean feeders breed in a clean environment.
ZNolanZs such a good question! I don’t believe so but we are learning more about this virus everyday. I think generally tarantulas are safe from human illnesses
I hope someday there will be a hospital that treats insects.
thank you for useful information!
T SEO you are most welcome!!
This was extremely useful, thank you. I might add to be careful of where you get your feeders. Never use bugs you find in your yard.
Such a good point!!!

I cant tell if my pink toed had parasites or is molting I'm scared and new to this to! :c
Are they ok???
Love your videos but the audio is always low. Maybe a better microphone. Hugs
Thanks for the feedback! I actually never used a microphone so I will have to look into that for the future!

Yes sometimes a recent molt can interfere with their eating. As long as her abdomen doesn't look dehydrated she should be ok.

Dubia roaches are potential vectors for entomopathogenic nematodes
