    Totally agreed ! Caribena and Gbb are pretty much the same honestly. Both can do some pretty webbings, fairly docile, amazing color transformation from slings to adults. Only difference is C. Versi humidity might be a bit tricky for some people. Both are my first two T and never regret it.

    • @bflo1000

      They are both awesome...but I've never had any luck raising baby Versi slings. And I kept them damp (maybe too damp). Larger slings, yes, but not newborns. No such problem w GBB's which I prefer anyway.

    I have a 5.5 inch female GBB. I love her so much and she's absolutely gorgeous but she's also a complete and total jerk and a mad hair kicker. She kicks hair at her plants, she kicks hair at her food, she kicks hair when I open her enclosure. I hate that she's kicking herself bald but I still have to interact with her enough to take care of her so I just accept that she is going to be bald.
    She is a rescue, I got her from a defunct pet shop that was being shut down due to animal abuse. She is still in the large critter keeper she came to me in, though I cleaned it up and added fake plants for her to web up and added more substrate. I do intend to rehouse her in an exo-terra 12x12x12 once I'm done remodeling my apartment and make a new shelf to put my enclosures. I think she will appreciate the front entrance more instead of opening the lid on top.

      One thing about Genics is you have to watch out for the INSANE feeding response. DON'T put you hand in the cage unless the T knows you are there or it may mistake you finger for food! At a show, one cocky guy tapped my big girl's butt and it spun INSTANTLY around and bit him. Got him good. He kind of laughed it off but...

    I also have a GBB sling and the enclosure is definitely the most beautiful and decorated, thanks to Saosin 😋 Beautiful tarantula! I do have a huge soft spot for my Aphonopelma chalcodes though. Piper is always out in the open, and super curious! Always wants to come out of the enclosure and explore whenever I open it up for feeding or maintaining. And I absolutely love it’s blonde and black patterns. I love that tarantula so much.

    I'm not sure there's such a thing as "the best" spider, I mean, it kind of depends on if you're new to the hobby and so on, but I'll agree that the C. cyaneopubescens is a hell of a spider - it looks stunning at all stages, none of those I had were picky eaters, and considering where they're found in the wild, managing humidity isn't a problem. However, I found them all a bit skittish, so I'd say you should probably have at least some experience with spiders before getting one of these, for a terrestrial spider they're pretty fast, much like X. immanis, I never got a faceful of hairs from mine, though. But yeah, they're easy to care for, and if you like webbing, this would be a good choice, they web up everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. But all that's just my personal opinion.
    Another spider I think would be worth having in the collection, is the Acanthoscurria geniculata. In my opinion, they look better than the somewhat similar Nhandu species, the lines are sharper and colors are better defined and more vibrant, they spend most of their time out in the open, and they NEVER say no to a meal, so in that regard they're easy to feed, and they aren't as skittish as the Nhandu species, but for someone new to the hobby they might be a bit too "attentive" as they appear to be convinced that everything that moves in the terrarium, most certainly must be food, and they waste no time attacking. They don't grow as large as Lasiodora or Theraphosa species, hell, they don't even grow as large as Xenesthis, but they sure have the personality of a big spider, and will grow to a bit more than you see in the common "beginner" species. I'd consider them as suitable for new people in the hobby, as the GBB.
    Personally I started out with Brachy's and and Grammo's, then I got a couple of Avic's and then it just went crazy, I should probably have gotten an Eupalaestrus early on, but I was several years in before I got my first E. campestratus, just to have it, but it is, in my opinion, one of the most docile spiders I've ever come across. On the other hand, I had a Cyclosternum fasciatum that was absolutely unpredictable. Now, those who know it, know that it isn't a big spider, but holy crap was mine cause for concern - one day it could be totally calm, you could hardly get it to move with a stick, and the next day it'd try to attack me while cleaning out the terrarium or refilling the water dish, it was quite a handfull, for such a relatively small spider. But it was pretty, though.:-)

    • @bflo1000
      @bflo1000 3 года назад +2

      I agree. Genics are one of my faves. Very hardy, great eaters & fast growers, and not as skittish as LP's or Nhandus (other lg Birdeaters). Much better looking, personality and sense of dignity.

    Personally I would have briefly touched upon the fact that Aviculariinae like C. versicolor tend to be a bit fragile as slings, which could be a potential drawback for some new tarantula keepers. That is not to say they can't be a first tarantula, as my first T was a versicolor, but I've seen a lot of sad stories regarding them on Facebook groups.

    Hi Richard. What do You think about Typhochlaena seladonia? I've heard this tarantula is very hmm "difficult" to keep but most beautiful. It is not easy tarantula and very rare . Do You have one on Your collection? Best Marcin from UK/Poland.

    • @tarantulacollective
      @tarantulacollective  4 года назад

      I have seen some other keepers that have had issues with keeping them, but I have no expereince with this particular tarantula. I dont have one in my collection, but they are gorgeous. There is some weird poictical/legal issues surrounding this species in the US right now. US fish and wildlife is confiscating imports and saying they're illegal, but there is no official announcement regarding the issue or whether it is legal to own or sell ones already in the country. They will say they're illegal off the record supposedly. But nothing official....so for the time being I'm not gonna get involved.

      @@tarantulacollective Right.. I didn't know it. I always thought America Is country of freedom :D but it's looks like is more freedom in UK and Poland than in US :) Btw it's very nice spider. I don't have enough experiance to keep this spices unfortunately. Better wait and learn. Last time I have lost my jumping spider, and that was not a good experiance. Saledonias costs are still very expensive and it's hard to lost this tarantula a few days after buying:)

    Your favourite is my favourite as well. I have a 1.5" female and getting 2 more slings next week. Such a beautiful species. I think they should be everyone's favourite. I would never get a T. Stirmi or anything from that genus because of the hairs. They aren't pretty either so they aren't impressive to me. Size doesn't matter to me. I have 5 dwarfs and 11 normal size (around 6" full grown) so it doesn't matter to me. I love the small size though. ❤🕷️

    G. Pulchra, it was my first T and the velvet black colour is more beautiful than any vibrant coloured T.
    Not only that, my Lilith is like an eight legged labrador, she even bites the water coming out of the "sprinkler".
    She always treats me with a thanks for the food and a little dance when I feed her, she's got better manners than I do for fucksake.
    I can't even describe the love I feel for my black beautiful spood.
    I'd keep only G. Pulchra if I had to, don't get me wrong I love all species I've kept and I even love species I'm too afraid to keep at the moment like an OBT but nothing can match the G. Pulchra.

    My Mexican fireleg kicks hairs nearly every time I open it's enclosure to water or feed it. Shes kind of bitchy, although she never shows a threat pose.
    She does hang out next to her water dish 95 percent of the time. I was curious why she would? It seems to be the closest place to my baseboard heater, so I think maybe the heat and the water are the drawing factors? I do have her in a massive aquarium. It's gotta be 3 feet long and 18 inches deep minimum.
    She webbed up the terrarium I got her in, and did some burrowing, but she hasn't webbed at all in her "new" enclosure, nor has she burrowed. She's about 3.5 to 4" at the moment. I do wish she would web more.

    I watch every video I can find of yours and recommend all of your care and husbandry videos for specific species but I've honestly gotta say you got this one wrong. Lol. I'd say the brachypelma albicep take first place. They are beautiful have great coloration, easy to maintain, good feeding response and are extremely docile in my experience. I know this species is your unicorn but this was my first species and I want more.
