Happy st Patrick day everyone!! Happy March madness too!! Love that greenT Patrick aswell you little leprechaun. Where are me lucky charms!!! Lol 🍀 ☘️ you 240crew
Welcome to Tuesday Dennis! Lol, who knows maybe with these longer days I will venture out of hibernation 🤣 I did build a huge (well idk 7feet or so) snowman with some of the good packing stuff on Sunday. Hahaha...I think that could be a funny bumper sticker...the bit about flipping off father time.
Dennis! Welcome to Sunday 😁 So I thought of you.....I think I got a historical job...lol 🤞Wednesday after lunch. (2pm) . It's operating the Lock in Little Rapids....a Lock Tender! I would think those have played an under appreciated outsized role in the development of the things like all those breweries from the tour. It would be super fun and a lovely afternoon boat tour to do.....like the graveyard, but more living history immersion style.
@@volvo240life WOW... That is very impressive. The locks date back to the 1850s. The current locks are part of a rebuild that replaced the original wood locks. Is that lock a manual lock like the one in De Pere??
Yes very much so. I think it could be a fun video series. Of course, with a 240 parked artfully in the background. A day in the life of a Lock Tender...the big gears to open the valves and gates seem like good ASMR content, with fun facts, and greeting passers-bys.
I’m binge watching your videos and taking notes! These are great and your car is lovely! 😍 I have a a verdigris 240 sedan and I’m just learning how to work on it myself. Thank you so much for making these videos!
Hey Patrick, as always nice to see u, great job on the install i hope it takes care of all ur cooling issues, I finally have all my Volvo issues solved and she's running great, be well my friend!😉
Charles! Lol, I just 🤞for you not to get pummeled by the snow. Good to hear on the 850! 😂 with all the issues resolved now the more fun tinkering can begin!!! This preventing future issues....and procrastinating on doing the heater core and blower motor, which is actually broken. Bit by bit it's getting there. Good thing Volvo ownership is more of a decades measurable activity 😁
The studs on the thermostat housing can get damaged or the nuts may get destroyed during removal. The studs & nuts are still available at Home Depot or other hardware stores. I recommended using anti-seize to install them in the head, along with anti-seize on the threaded portion where the nuts gets installed. Last, I also recommend replacing the heater hoses at the back of the block / cylinder head to their connection point on the firewall. These smaller hoses carry a lot of heat and can get stressed.
Welcome to Tuesday Schwedenstahl. Thanks for the tips! 🤣Yeah I was on the verge of doing the damage and decided to wait. Lol it may have been the flush, but the slight stick on the thermostat seems worked itself out for the time being. I will definitely add those other hoses to the project list. I have to replace my heater core/blower fan coming up...lol two more hoses on that activity will hardly be noticeable. Have a good one!
I had a radiator failure on my 1991 240 and replaced it with a Nissen radiator. I replaced the radiator on my current 1993 240 with the same one. The original radiators did not have enough cooling capacity (and Volvo knew it) Which is why they put the auxiliary electric cooling fans on the 1991-93 240’s. The Nissen radiators have more cooling capacity than the original ones.
Carlton hey its been a while, welcome to today! I can't say I've had many issues over the years with cooling. A long time ago on the sedan during a trip in the summer through the Southwest, but it was the radiator was so unbelievably plugged with little bits of who knows what that it was amazing it worked at all🤣. The world is warmer now so I hope to avoid future problems with the upgrade. I have been thinking about adding that later fan, though. My A/C shockingly still works fine, even with that cobbled return line, but for heavy traffic in the blistering summer heat, I think it would help overall in cabin cooling power.
@@volvo240life I used to work for U-Haul back in the day and sold a lot of hitches and transmission coolers. So when I got the last 240 I had U-Haul put in a transmission cooler. My sister (the previous owner of my 1991 240) had the transmission replaced on the car. I later realized after I got the car that it isn't just the anti-freeze/coolant that is going through the radiator to be cooled. It's the automatic transmission fluid running through the radiator. Roughly half of all boil overs are cause by not just the coolant, but the hot transmission fluid as well. Roughly two years after the transmission cooler was installed, the original radiator failed and I bought the Nissen after doing some research. The factory radiator is a two row and the Nissen is a three row, so it has more cooling capacity. So on my current 240 when I had to pull the radiator out to have a broken bolt drilled out of the engine block. I replaced the radiator with a Nissen that I just happened to have lying around coincidentally 😉
That is what I was thinking about the beach traffic. That stop and go in hot weather, bumper to bumper, on fresh blacktop, with the A/C cranked up....is completely brutal. Funny...the Nissens I used has been sitting around for the better part of 10 years😂. From back in the day of the 1/2 sales in the Chula Vista junk yards.
What up DBT...aka Mr. Sofisticated940. CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎊 LOL....Hmmm. this crew challenge could backfire if too many people try to wait it out🤣 If we can't get there on this video I'll add to it and up the prize package...make it like free parking in Monopoly .
I've been wanting to replace my transmission hard lines because they're rusty. I didn't know what I was going to run into until I saw your video. I appreciate your step-by-step process.. I couldn't make out the complete part number on the trans cooler.... I can only find one hard line on the Internet. The top line part number 1306839... I cannot find anywhere.. Where did you buy both of your hard lines? Thanks,
Hey how's it going? Your welcome, and thanks for watching. All the parts and numbers with links are in the description. That oil cooler is ancient, but I just looked on ebay...item # 395038556868. Cheap too
Hi! Great Video! I drive a 1993 240 and I am in Arizona. Any idea where I can find a trans cooler like that? I would love to add it! I put an AW71 in my car and want to keep it cool :)
Hey Michael welcome to the channel! Nice sedan you have, I love the pic in among the giant redwoods. The summer heat out by you is harsh indeed, plus all those mountains. Ebay or a junk yard. The one I used in the video is a very old 240 cooler, but if you look around for 7/940 turbo should have one. It will look a bit more squared off, but is basically the same. Generic tool, flexible hydraulic line may be an easier method.
Heyo would you have the specs on the male fitting for connecting the trans cooler? My wagon had an external cooler installed but just had rubber hoses jammed and clamped to the factory lines. I’d like to locate male to barb fitting for now but I’m failing to find 1/2-20 flare to barb as some people have stated it’s 1/2-20… but that also seems a touch too big to me
Hey, welcome to a new week. OK, so this is a great question. I have it out of the wagon and am doing an update video.....videos. The brass ones in the video (A 3/000) are what I got from the auto store. Originally when I put them in, the opening seemed a little big, and I wasn't getting a perfect seal. That said I'm not awesome at flaring hard lines...plus I used softer 1/2 brake line. So I'm switching to steel line, and I went to the junk yard to get original connectors. Just a quick out of car hook up seem like they will fit perfectly. Even finger tight seems better, but idk what the actual difference is. 240CREW!?!😁 ANYONE know why this is?
Well I’m bailing on my cooler for now. On a highway drive home I noticed all four old school hose clamps leaking…new radiator this weekend with built in cooler till I see what you do next!

There is one of those old Hydro plants right there too. IDK if it's in operation, there is an interesting old time capsule quality about it.

Very cool. My 92 wagon arrived to me with a long cooler- about 15x5” with soft line from the trans hard lines to the cooler
Nice! Yeah the one picture I found was with soft lines too, in retrospect those probably would have been easier.....lol live a little, learn a litte.
