Am watching video after video of yours. Really good info and drills. One thing about the position of the right arm here where you stop the motion with shaft parallel to the ground is that the right elbow for the pros is always tight to the belt and usually a bit in front of the body at the waist, while so many of us amateurs end up with the right elbow away from the body and coming in to the side of the waist. One thing that helps is on the backswing to keep the elbows close together so that the right forearm will be quite vertical and the right elbow will be at the side, almost still in front, not lifting up and back (which forces the forearm to be more horizontal). From that position it is easier to bring the right arm/elbow down and at the belt just in front of the waist. Keeping the shoulders tilted as you instruct and the right ear pointing at the ball is also part and parcel of this move with the right arm slightly bent at contact.
Really great video! The drill to try and pass the grip without touching the wall suddenly gave me this feel of pressure going into my left heal and moving backwards 🙏

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but my low back hurts after I play golf. I’m trying to mimic pros swing but recently my back started to hurt. I think this is your best instructional video thus far.
I think the pros are using there hands more then we think they are. I hurt my back when I first started playing. heard that term (turn) and it destroyed me. I had to play with my hands until my back healed, and I shot the best rounds I’ve ever shot. I was putting the ball where I wanted on command it was crazy. I think finding the right grip size is pivotal to allow you to use your hands more. This old guy on the range told me one time, your hands aren’t inconsistent you’re just using them inconsistently. I switched to taking the club away with my left shoulder to load it. Then I get the feeling of the club dropping in the slot/ letting my right oblique lose tension then I fire my right hand at the ball. Been playing a year and a half and shooting consistently in the 80’s. I hope your back gets better man. Find out what works for you so you don’t destroy your back.
My consultant told me 40 years ago when I had a slipped disc that long thin backs (like mine and Zalatoris) were much more vulnerable. I believe that the desired shoulder tilt is not the problem it is the side bend coupled with very fast hips like Zalatoris. Tall, skinny amateurs are asking for trouble if they drive the hips fast while crunching the spine sideways. Flex the legs more and allow the hands to release. Snead is a good example, Mickelson another. I was warning against the Zalatoris, Niemann swings years ago. Don't copy if you are tall and slim.
yeah level hip turn is also a problem Zalatoris kicks his right knee out towards the golf ball, making the hips turn level as well. Combined with tilt not a good move thanks for posting 👍
This was information i needed. I tend to push and really lean in to the shots. Giving the hole the "thumbs up" really showed me something. also, I am a retired hockey player so i have very strong and explosive hips and core. Might this results in the arms and hands to lag behind in the rotation? How does that effect the shot? (sorry for bad english).

Amazing how few instructors teach this. Good drill is put an alignment rod in your belt buckle and then hold another one across your chest and then try to touch them together on your downswing.
it’s more of a modern move because players are forced to hit it so far Hogan had less tilt through the ball he also had a very neutral club face position Hogans swing is very unique
To be brutally honest i know very little about Stack & Tilt it definitely seems though it has a bad name. Why? Some people have mentioned that this video is Stack & Tilt Is John Rahm , Viktor Hovland, Brooks Koepka,Fred Couples using Stack & Tilt ???? 🤔🙈
Stack and Tilt guys are the Branch Davidians of the golf swing world. Tom Saguto's comment section is filled with kool-aid drinking cultists. Dude tried to tell me pros don't move laterally.
rotation rotation and more rotation…….this was my last piece of my puzzle at 4.9 ghin….head toward scratch……left shoulder down back swing right should down and forward in thru swing With your head staying behind the ball. Working rt shoulder under ie down shallows the club and gets you in the slot. Dont stall your body just rotate to a full finish
I agree, the modern swing requires more side tilt. I do notice how much more my right side hurts as a result. I am right handed and 75 years old, though. It is very hard for me to get off my right side and on to my left leg.
I see a lot of comments about injuries on the back, I think some needs to understand that ofc we can't get the same swing as the pros off the bat. But we can practice the movement and improve- the more you pratice the easier the swing gets, and the more natural it gets. Ofc it can cause some pains, but there is no mastering without the practice and perhaps a little pain. The payoff is greater than the mishaps - imo. :)
This is an amazing video with great instruction on how to practice doing it and how it should FEEL! I tried something on my own but kept hitting the ground behind the ball and got frustrated. Thank you and I will definitely work it into my practice and warm up.
What I'm confused about is: you have possibly three ways to steepen the shoulders when coming into impact: 1) drive the left hip back perpendicular to the ball, 2) work the hands close to the body, or 3) intentionally dip the right shoulder down. This has to be repeatable. Which one should a plagued early extender like myself focus on. #1 ala Mike Malaska's instructions is very difficult, #3 is hard to do with longer clubs...your thoughts please.
Drive your left hip back on the downswing? Work your the hands close to the body? - Please explain how they workflows steepen the shoulders into impact??????? - i would like to hear that please.
@@CraigHansonGolf Sure, that steep shoulder is an effect from 3 levers we can control. Get into impact position without a club, move your hands closer to your body - the right shoulder will tend to tilt down. Get back to impact position again and this time move your left hip back away from the ball (perpendicular) - shoulders will dip again. And finally, consciously dipping the right shoulder as you are advocating here, will in fact move the hands closer and requires the hips to move back.
I appreciate the info, always scares me seeing this crazy lateral side bend from young guys and then seeing this. And that felt a bit strange hearing The Masters called the US Masters ha
Every pro is athletic, practiced and dedicated. They share the one important feature, they get to impact consistently and efficiently. Amateurs much less so. I gave up due to back pain but came back to golf using a rotary type swing (my "angle" at impact is about 55 deg.) but there is no lower back flexion or torsion so there is no back pain (for me). The body turns, shoulders slightly more than hips as the arms traverse the ball. I maintained my CHS (about 95-100 mph with the driver) but my contact is more solid and much more efficient. I now hit the ball right down the middle of the fairway. Too bad that it took this long to find "my" swing but after 3 years, I hope to shoot my age (69) this season. 73 was my failure to achieve last year's goal (par) but you gotta keep movin" as they say... ;)
Great pointers but at the 5:42 mark, I found myself laughing because it reminded me of Frank Constanza (Seinfeld) and the move he does when showing Jerry his stop short move.
I have tried swinging from the inside with this kind of tilt and struggled with drop kicking the club off the ground behind the ball, especially with driver.
trying to do basically this alongside a few other things to help my god awful slice. had a range session on wednesday and hot about 60 balls, really tried not to rush it, take my time with each shot and not just fire them away one after the other. sadly my lower back really really hurt afterwards up until pretty much today where its getting better. im 25, healthy but not very strong. im 195cm tall and have an office job where i sit about 8 hrs a day, doesnt help that i dont play any other sport and mostly sit at home also. what are some good excercises or streches i can do to not blow my back out while playing golf? a start would be to not swing as hard as i do, i often get in the bad habit of absolutely ripping at it wich certainly doenst help

Maybe it is an illusion to me, but it also looks like these guys are not yanking their left side up at the same time as they rotate through. Their left knee looks more bent.
Because a lot people drive the ball badly with stacking all the weight left I’m showing people the tilt and turn through impact. If your talk about tilt it doesn’t automatically make it Stack and tilt swing style..
As a 2.4 handicap, I just don't find many videos that speak to me. I'm an amateur but I don't look like that. Why can't coaches teach a couple different levels and not just 20+ers
It’s because it’s youtube and the videos i do i try and attract to my website that has 1300 videos. I also try and read people for swing analyst training. on WorldClassGolf.com we have hundreds of videos for advanced Golfers. This is not in RUclips.
Isn't the issue that amateurs hips stall much more and stay stalled much longer than pros causing terrible RL sidebend. And yes, that position is dangerous, especially for anyone with low back problems.
They do this for a living and have access to great doctors and can afford to miss paychecks. Start swinging like them and you will end up with injuries serious ones.
Let’s compare two swings of the same player an than speak about tilt and side band. There is all about wrist not band or tilt. Is not possible make the same tilt two times in the row. Consistent the shot is due the compensation with the wrist movement. Hit mor balls and be more consistent.
The pros swings are clearly worse on the back. The reason the amateurs aren't in the same position as Rahm is because their backs can't handle that position! Let's not act like the golf swing is a natural motion. You want to hit it 320 you have to hurt your body in the long run. Same as all other sports.
it’s definitely possible for all golfers to reach their potential and improve their swings. As i said in the video!!!!!!!!!’ We cant all swing like Rahm but we can all improve and understand swing technique mote effectively FGrecoJR
@WorldClassGolf - Craig Hanson & Dr. Rob Neal I agree with that for sure but the pros way is still worse on the back but it's the sacrifice needed to play at highest potential level.
Zalitoris's swing is killing his back. If you look at impact his spine is so crooked compared to Rahm. Rahm's spine is pretty straight at impact. Will's spine at impact is so crooked and compressed it hurts looking at that. Alot of the young golfers are swinging this way and it's killing their back. No reason someone that young should be having back problems like that.
This is not a new thing; go back further and look at Ben Hogans swing, arguably one of the best ball strikers of all time, the amount of rotation he had was unreal
@@CraigHansonGolf John Rahm is 188 (6´1") tall, Sam Snead, 1.8 (6´) Fred Couples 1.8 (6´). Will Zalatoris, 188 (6´1") Hogan was 174 (5´8"); a taller player will find it easier to swing steeper anyway, Hogans clubs were a little flatter due to his height, but it´s hip rotation and shoulder rotation that produces power and prevents back injury. That´s what I´m talking about.

@@CraigHansonGolf it´s also unbelievable that people post stuff on the internet and cant handle anyone disagreeing. The whole point of your video seems to be about avoiding back injury. I didnt contradict myself at all. The level of shoulder tilt seems to be related more to how tall a player is than any "new" thing. But if you cant handle any kind of debate on it then I sure as hell wouldnt be taking any kind of advice from you.
@@alanwaterworth6464 the whole point of the video is about tilt and turn. Xander Schauffele is not tall and has huge tilt through the ball. So it’s got nothing to do with how tall you are. You’re entitled to another opinion, but you can’t just make stuff up? It’s ridiculous
Yea i know mate, wasn't questioning any of the content, just poorly worded questioning of his s spine at address, that's strain on the lumbar spine before even rotating or tilting

Thanks for a great video coach! What do I key on at the start of the frontswing to make my shoulder go down?
you have to create a good pivot then its automatic you cant think left shoulder down the thought is to big and to disruptive.

@@EVERYTHINGHEEM thank you for your help. I’ll try it.
Because the way they swing is no good for your body stop mimicking them.
Great drill!!
thanks so much Scott appreciate it 👍
My consultant told me 40 years ago when I had a slipped disc that long thin backs (like mine and Zalatoris) were much more vulnerable. Don't copy if you are tall and slim.
yeah level hip turn is also a problem
Zalatoris kicks his right knee out towards the golf ball, making the hips turn level as well. Combined with tilt not a good move
thanks for posting 👍
Yeah because us big guys can’t bend like that so I can second that lol
@@creamabdul-jabbar6722 i can bend like that im 6 foot 4
@@CraigHansonGolf just wait till your my age! Of course, you won't be 6'4" then🙂
@@creamabdul-jabbar6722 try a 12inch tee, much easier! McIlroy doesn't need to bend, he's already down there.
Thanks for posting. I can’t tell you what effect it will have on your swing as i have never seen your swing. Each golfer is different. Golfers really need a top high quality instructor to analysis the swing.
Guessing with written tips is really not good for your game. That’s why i do online swing analysis lesons and have 1300 videos on WorldclassGolf.com
Invest a little , stop guessing and get me to analysis and coach you. Thanks for posting i really appreciate it
Amazing how few instructors teach this. Good drill is put an alignment rod in your belt buckle and then hold another one across your chest and then try to touch them together on your downswing.
Interesting John thanks for posting 👍👍
Very interesting. Are there any exceptions to the rule? (Ben Hogan, George knudson) etc.
it’s more of a modern move because players are forced to hit it so far
Hogan had less tilt through the ball
he also had a very neutral club face position
Hogans swing is very unique
MORAD + Stack & Tilt were talking about this eons ago.
Show me one video where you have been shown those tilts those angles through the ball … 1 video
To be brutally honest i know very little about Stack & Tilt
it definitely seems though it has a bad name. Why?
Some people have mentioned that this video is Stack & Tilt
Is John Rahm , Viktor Hovland, Brooks Koepka,Fred Couples using Stack & Tilt ????
Dont stall your body just rotate to a full finish
thanks for sharing Bryson 👍
I agree, the modern swing requires more side tilt. I do notice how much more my right side hurts as a result. I am right handed and 75 years old, though. It is very hard for me to get off my right side and on to my left leg.
getting off, your right side might be also related to your clubface position?
The wall drill is brilliant
Thanks Paul 👍
That giant club head is cool, looks like a great training aid, what's it called or where did you get that?
i don’t think they make them anymore
@@CraigHansonGolf cardboard and duct tape it is 👍🏻🙃
I see a lot of comments about injuries on the back, I think some needs to understand that ofc we can't get the same swing as the pros off the bat. But we can practice the movement and improve- the more you pratice the easier the swing gets, and the more natural it gets. Ofc it can cause some pains, but there is no mastering without the practice and perhaps a little pain. The payoff is greater than the mishaps - imo. :)
The best post i’ve seen this year 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
Key to consistent impact and distance
👌👌👍 exactly
This is an amazing video with great instruction on how to practice doing it and how it should FEEL! I tried something on my own but kept hitting the ground behind the ball and got frustrated. Thank you and I will definitely work it into my practice and warm up.
Glad it was helpful! thanks 🙏 for taking the time to post
Love this approach of tilt you are providing content on. Very helpful
Thanks Jeff, thanks for posting. Yes the feedback has been great. People are playing better Golf 👍👍
@@golfshoe9321 good luck with everything 👍
I watched a video with Martin Hall showing something like this to help with early release

I have solved the back issue completely with a swing angle of 105 degrees. I'm now concentrating on getting the ball away from the tee box...😅
Terrific post Steve! - Thanks so much. We are so lucky to have people like yourself out there.
73 was my failure to achieve last year's goal (par) but you gotta keep movin" as they say... ;)
good luck 👍

I have tried swinging from the inside with this kind of tilt and struggled with drop kicking the club off the ground behind the ball, especially with driver.
Do you film your swing swing?
Try lifting you right heel off the ground on your downswing
Never ever thought to keep head dropped
trying to do basically this alongside a few other things to help my god awful slice.
had a range session on wednesday and hot about 60 balls, really tried not to rush it, take my time with each shot and not just fire them away one after the other.

I wish I could tilt and turn like that. I'm only 28 and the camera shows me standing up out of posture every. damn. time... What really sucks is that I'm feeling that I'm rotating fine, I don't feel myself standing up. What I'm feeling isn't real.
The question is why your standing up its a unconscious move .. your standing up because of a reason.

Maybe it is an illusion to me, but it also looks like these guys are not yanking their left side up at the same time as they rotate through. Their left knee looks more bent.

Why don't more pros teach stack and tilt. Isn't this basically the same thing?
Because a lot people drive the ball badly with stacking all the weight left
I’m showing people the tilt and turn through impact. If your talk about tilt it doesn’t automatically make it Stack and tilt swing style..
i wish my coach never tryed to fix my bowed wrist when younger, i keep feeling like i haveto keep fighting it to this day, stuffed me
i know exactly what you mean 👍
As a 2.4 handicap, I just don't find many videos that speak to me. I'm an amateur but I don't look like that. Why can't coaches teach a couple different levels and not just 20+ers
It’s because it’s youtube and the videos i do i try and attract to my website that has 1300 videos.
I also try and read people for swing analyst training. on WorldClassGolf.com we have hundreds of videos for advanced Golfers.
This is not in RUclips.
Isn't the issue that amateurs hips stall much more and stay stalled much longer than pros causing terrible RL sidebend. And yes, that position is dangerous, especially for anyone with low back problems.
thanks for posting 👍
They do this for a living and have access to great doctors and can afford to miss paychecks. Start swinging like them and you will end up with injuries serious ones.
i like the one about the access to great doctors 😆😆.. if only we had that access! - Dam it! …
Let’s compare two swings of the same player an than speak about tilt and side band. There is all about wrist not band or tilt. Is not possible make the same tilt two times in the row. Consistent the shot is due the compensation with the wrist movement. Hit mor balls and be more consistent.
Thanks for posting 👍
The feel for this swing is trying to hit a low cut.
i actually it high draw with it …but hey why not another opinion we don’t have enough in golf 😊😊
No reason someone that young should be having back problems like that.
his hips are to flat or level compared to rahm ..his right knee kicks out towards the ball .. his shoulders are 55 degrees that’s not even steep
And this is why Will Zalotoris is under 27 and out for the season AGAIN with a back injury AGAIN.
did you see Will in the Video? ..
They're both really young give it time. The Golf swing is not a natural body movement, lots of stress points.

This is not a new thing; go back further and look at Ben Hogans swing, arguably one of the best ball strikers of all time, the amount of rotation he had was unreal
??? yeah, but he had a lot less side bend threw the ball. What on earth are you talking about?
@@CraigHansonGolf John Rahm is 188 (6´1") tall, Sam Snead, 1.8 (6´) Fred Couples 1.8 (6´). Will Zalatoris, 188 (6´1") Hogan was 174 (5´8"); a taller player will find it easier to swing steeper anyway, Hogans clubs were a little flatter due to his height, but it´s hip rotation and shoulder rotation that produces power and prevents back injury. That´s what I´m talking about.
@@alanwaterworth6464 the video is about side bend? ….Hogans swing is completely different as you just mentioned! - ???
Your initial comment was “ this is not new Hogan did this!
You just explained he’s he was heaps smaller and his clubs where flatter.
Completely different. Completely contradicting yourself.
His Swing was completely different a much more level shoulder plane through the ball.
I said what are you talking about?
Did you actually watch the video?
A lot of time it’s unbelievable what people write these days.
I don’t mind people disagreeing I just can’t stand ignorance and ridiculous arrogant comments. Hogan has low 40 degree tilt through the ball.
That’s why i asked what on earth are you taking about. You’re entitled to another opinion, but you can’t just make stuff up? It’s ridiculous
Didn't willy z have a massive s curve at address? Terrible for the spine
Hes in the video! how about watching it before you comment🙈
Yea i know mate, wasn't questioning any of the content, just poorly worded questioning of his s spine at address, that's strain on the lumbar spine before even rotating or tilting
Like skipping a stone
👍
Nothing new really is it Ben Hogan was a master at this stack and tilt. Back to basics I'd call it.
Ben Hogans swing was completely different? What do you mean?
So how much tilt do you hogan had through the ball?
Uh, no. Flat out, no (no pun intended). As Craig points out, Hogan's swing was completely different. Further to his point, the lie angle of Hogan's clubs were 4 to 7 degrees flat. Bend your 7 iron's lie angle to 6 degrees flat, and let us know how it goes. Cheers!
