I made this same chance 2 weeks ago after watching both Viktor & Brooks. Playing off 10.2, I shot 39 points in Wednesday Comp. & 38 Points in Saturday Comp. Hit more fairways & straighter irons to the greens, makes my swings feel more complete & need to re adjust distance as irons are now 5 - 10- metres longer.

Am watching video after video of yours. Really good info and drills. One thing about the position of the right arm here where you stop the motion with shaft parallel to the ground is that the right elbow for the pros is always tight to the belt and usually a bit in front of the body at the waist, while so many of us amateurs end up with the right elbow away from the body and coming in to the side of the waist. One thing that helps is on the backswing to keep the elbows close together so that the right forearm will be quite vertical and the right elbow will be at the side, almost still in front, not lifting up and back (which forces the forearm to be more horizontal). From that position it is easier to bring the right arm/elbow down and at the belt just in front of the waist. Keeping the shoulders tilted as you instruct and the right ear pointing at the ball is also part and parcel of this move with the right arm slightly bent at contact.

That was really funny. Im' 73 and there is only so much tilt left in this ol' body, but the idea is great for those who are able to flex to pro degrees. Thx.

Great information! I came about this swing by trying to hit a cut shot. I have always had a tendency to hit draws but my missis were a push right or a hook left. I have been studying the benefits of a cut shot so I have been lower the right shoulder down and around and keeping the left shoulder up. I had to feel to hit a cut that my left should was producing a cut by the way it move left around and my right was even more down and right. Like my trail should was titling my left should more to the right. My thought was this would produce the cut shot. I was able cut the ball pretty regular. I found with a little adjustment of the shoulder tilt I could hit a straight shot , a draw. Theni started to adjust the wrist to hit hight, low , left and right. I found this swing was so easy to duplicate, I found it very natural for my body and swing and to top it out if was effortless and I was hitting the ball with power , accuracy and distance not obtainable before. Looking forward to more videos!

i think this action of the steep shoulder angle into impact can be triggered from one of two sources: either conscious shoulder dipping or shoving the lead hip back away from the ball. Both will promote less early extension and right foot rolling towards the target at impact as opposed to kicking up and towards the ball.
Each person will find one trigger easier than the other.

I had to play with my hands until my back healed, and I shot the best rounds I’ve ever shot. I was putting the ball where I wanted on command it was crazy. I think finding the right grip size is pivotal to allow you to use your hands more. This old guy on the range told me one time, your hands aren’t inconsistent you’re just using them inconsistently. I switched to taking the club away with my left shoulder to load it. Then I get the feeling of the club dropping in the slot/ letting my right oblique lose tension then I fire my right hand at the ball. Been playing a year and a half and shooting consistently in the 80’s. I hope your back gets better man. Find out what works for you so you don’t destroy your back.

My consultant told me 40 years ago when I had a slipped disc that long thin backs (like mine and Zalatoris) were much more vulnerable. I believe that the desired shoulder tilt is not the problem it is the side bend coupled with very fast hips like Zalatoris. Tall, skinny amateurs are asking for trouble if they drive the hips fast while crunching the spine sideways. Flex the legs more and allow the hands to release. Snead is a good example, Mickelson another. I was warning against the Zalatoris, Niemann swings years ago. Don't copy if you are tall and slim.

But we can practice the movement and improve- the more you pratice the easier the swing gets, and the more natural it gets. Ofc it can cause some pains, but there is no mastering without the practice and perhaps a little pain. The payoff is greater than the mishaps - imo. :)

What I'm confused about is: you have possibly three ways to steepen the shoulders when coming into impact: 1) drive the left hip back perpendicular to the ball, 2) work the hands close to the body, or 3) intentionally dip the right shoulder down.
This has to be repeatable. Which one should a plagued early extender like myself focus on. #1 ala Mike Malaska's instructions is very difficult, #3 is hard to do with longer clubs...your thoughts please.

    • @golfshoe9321
      @golfshoe9321 Год назад

@@CraigHansonGolf Sure, that steep shoulder is an effect from 3 levers we can control. Get into impact position without a club, move your hands closer to your body - the right shoulder will tend to tilt down. Get back to impact position again and this time move your left hip back away from the ball (perpendicular) - shoulders will dip again. And finally, consciously dipping the right shoulder as you are advocating here, will in fact move the hands closer and requires the hips to move back.

Every pro is athletic, practiced and dedicated. They share the one important feature, they get to impact consistently and efficiently. Amateurs much less so. I gave up due to back pain but came back to golf using a rotary type swing (my "angle" at impact is about 55 deg.) but there is no lower back flexion or torsion so there is no back pain (for me). The body turns, shoulders slightly more than hips as the arms traverse the ball. I maintained my CHS (about 95-100 mph with the driver) but my contact is more solid and much more efficient. I now hit the ball right down the middle of the fairway. Too bad that it took this long to find "my" swing but after 3 years, I hope to shoot my age (69) this season. 73 was my failure to achieve last year's goal (par) but you gotta keep movin" as they say... ;)

trying to do basically this alongside a few other things to help my god awful slice.
had a range session on wednesday and hot about 60 balls, really tried not to rush it, take my time with each shot and not just fire them away one after the other.
sadly my lower back really really hurt afterwards up until pretty much today where its getting better.
im 25, healthy but not very strong. im 195cm tall and have an office job where i sit about 8 hrs a day, doesnt help that i dont play any other sport and mostly sit at home also.
what are some good excercises or streches i can do to not blow my back out while playing golf?
a start would be to not swing as hard as i do, i often get in the bad habit of absolutely ripping at it wich certainly doenst help

The pros swings are clearly worse on the back. The reason the amateurs aren't in the same position as Rahm is because their backs can't handle that position! Let's not act like the golf swing is a natural motion. You want to hit it 320 you have to hurt your body in the long run. Same as all other sports.

Zalitoris's swing is killing his back. If you look at impact his spine is so crooked compared to Rahm. Rahm's spine is pretty straight at impact. Will's spine at impact is so crooked and compressed it hurts looking at that. Alot of the young golfers are swinging this way and it's killing their back. No reason someone that young should be having back problems like that.
