I think the Hpi is such a good truck. I love how different trucks can pretty much do the same thing but in their own unique way. Ground clearance hinders the hpi a tad.
The TRX4 is the ultimate Scale Trail running rig, box stock around 90% Scale Trail & 10% Rock Crawler. And 100% Traxxas style basher ;) Changing that heavy body and adding the sticky G8 Tires makes it pretty close to unstoppable!!! The SCX10 II RTR is a total animal on the Rocks and still looks great running the Scale Trail lines ;) I don't have any experience with the venture, but it's a great looking rig!!! ;)
Best scale what? Trail running rig! No interior? Good call! So is that what makes or breaks a scale trail rig? It's running Low Gear, High Gear, front and rear differential lockers, has a great looking Defender 110 Body! Oh and those Portal Axles?!?! Iceing on the Cake!! Am I wrong? Okay, so the blacked out Windows suck!! I get the lack of Interior and that fake plastic Winch on the front Bumper... Okay, so it's not made by RC4WD and could very well be greatly improved!!! So I suppose it is the best Backyard Basher rig, and not exactly the most Scale Trail looking rig... . . . ;)
I've both the trx4 and hpi venture. Both different beasts and both great. Nothing touches the trx4, have had the stock servo for 12 months. If you don't turn at standstill you'll be fine. The venture is very capable with straight driveline and plenty of stock alloy. Super simple and great low c.o.g. all round brilliant.
I personally love the scx10 2 the best out of all the crawlers I have, basically the best main ones redcat gen 8, trx4, scx10 2, and another scx10 2, and I have to say the scx10 2 is by far my favorite because it’s so easy to take apart and upgrade, for a try 4 and redcat I have to take over 12 screws out in specific orders and it can be a pain getting the motor off the trans on both for upgrades, so when I realized the scx10 2 I could get it’s trans out in 4 screws and put a better one in and add weights and axle weights easier I did and that’s kinda why it’s my favorite because it’s so easy to upgrade, and stock I would say on rock it outperformed my other two including my trx4 and trx4 sport. So overall if you want to upgrade and make a competition crawler I would go with the scx 10 ii
Your right, the Traxxas TRX-4 is the best truck in my opinion. I just got the bluetooth for my TRX-4 transmitter. That 100% takes the hassle out setting up the truck. Do NOT use the TSM setting, leave it at zero. With TSM on the steering is bad. Doesn't self center and makes steering feel delayed. Leave TSM OFF! The only issue I've had was with the TRX-4 is the steering servo. I spent big bucks on a couple servos that went out fast. Track Star, Savöx, even the stock Traxxas servo crapped out. I found a $19 servo on line (from China) and it SMOKES the expensive servos I've tried. I bought an extra as a back up! I doubt I'll need it anytime soon!
They actually put TSM on the trx4 that's pointless lol, I agree I would leave it off for a trail truck but it works great on fast RCs like my ruslter. I want to get the Bluetooth thing for my transmitter good to know it works.
I disagree about TSM. If you do a lot of hiking, especially on snowy trails, TSM is like enabling a cheat mode! But for crawling, you'll never want it enabled.
When I first got into rc I was looking for a review channel, my BF being Filipino insisted we watch you. Love your channel but we made a mistake watching with his family from Manila... they say “Heavens” Instead of cursing... the minute your told prices in another video “$350, $375, $400” etc. all you heard was “Heavens!!! My heaven!!” “That’s too much!! He must be crazy... Jen is he crazy?!! He lost his mind! $400 for a toy!! That too much, what is he thinking?!!! Lmao! Went on for hours... their “thrifty “ shall we say and you nearly killed them saying a toy costs $400... 🤷🏼♂️😂
The difference between the men and the boys is the price of their toys ... a very old quote and it always true. When people are complaining about the price of the TRX family, just keep in mind, what it will cost you to have: A rigid axle chassis with portal gears, two independently switchable diff locks (with two servos), a shiftable two speed gear box (and another servo), a (moderately) programmable ESC, a steering servo (my original is still working - but yes it is somewhat weak) and a r/c TX/RX unit. OOB the TRX is very capable and relatively silent (compared to some "coffee grinders" on wheels). If you upgrade any other r/c to this standard, you will end up with the same amount of money spent. Believe it or not. And no, I'm not a Traxxas-Fan-Boy, 80%-90% percent of my r/c's are Tamiyas. But if you judge a model without wearing rose colored glasses, the TRX-family is a great throw from Traxxas.
I do not have the privilege of owning trx4 defender someday I hope to so I can also say how good they are until then I will keek my fingers crossed in Hope's that one of you that have a hole army of then remember to look me up so I can purchase one for a good price ....love you show dont miss a one of them god bless
I have a Ventura, and its perform very well. Excelent crawler, great shocks. Only thing i agree in this review is to replace the steering servo for a 10kg one. Available at Banggood.com for $10.00
Never tested the venture but the TRX4 is really forward on scale and trail riding but with the top heavy body it isn't really capable on actual rock crawling. Has a lot of tech like the 2 speed and lockers but i still have to replace more often parts in the TRX4 . The SCX10 II has truck load amount of aftermarket parts/ hop ups and is heavily capable on rock crawling and stock parts are reliable too. I also have to say that the vattera ascender is almost in par with the scx10 ii except the issue with the torque twist that is easy to fix. Well i have to save up for the venture to try it out.
Good show. I would still buy hpi. I have already been through locking diffs on summit. It Was great new. The front diff been rebuilt 3xs. With shim kits. UGH. LOL
Rod 000 I saw that video also, its crazy how much abuse the trx4 drive line can withstand. If you use the trx as a trail truck unless it falls off a cliff the axles probably won't break.
Not so much since we've gone through 30 crawlers in the past three years. So we're not able to beat on each one too much. Can tell you though that the Traxxas TRX4s are absolutely bulletproof.
I am thinking about my first cravler, and have 3 options now: SCX10 II JEEP CHEROKE, SCX10 CHEVROLET BLAZER AND TRX SPORT, whqt would you recomend. I know trx is better it has portals, but some how scx's looks better. Is there any real big differences betwen Jeep adn Chevrolet ones (except the bodys)? Thanks in advance
I would get the cherokee, the portals are nice but I think they are almost over-engineered. The scx10 ii cherokee is my choice, it is an amazing truck for the price.
as I own both the trx and the venture both are pretty much the same but the trx is slightly faster and the venture slightly does better crawling but the price difference in my country isn't really fare as its about a 200 dollars more with pretty much the same performance. the tires aren't really any issues either i don't understand why you r saying that
In our experience for crawling performance, the TRX4 beats the Venture in every category, box stock. Ground clearance, tire trip, drivetrain smoothness. Thes are more apparent in very rocky, technical terrain. The weakness of the TRX4 is the big, heavy, tall bodies. But that's easily resolved by using an alternate light body.
It is about 660$ usd here without battery and charger. I've seen a bunch of videos of crawlers and I can tell that servos are a wear and tear part :P I've gone thrue a few in the small 1/18 dromida, and the 2080 traxxas in the E-revo haha :) Now is it just metal in all exept the summit 1/16 that one has two original 2080 servos.
Do you said durable? The traxxas trx4 I thinking you can't bashing or sending over 20 feet in the air right i a crawler. No for speed runs bashing or jumping 🤣
I have a Scx-10 ii and a MST CMX. Both great rigs. The TRX-4 is way overhyped. I had one for a week and hated it. I'll never own a Trashxxas vehicle again.
Hi, I’m looking to buy one rig but I’m not sure yet which one shall I buy. I’m in doubt between HPI Venture and Element RC Enduro Trailwalker! What’s your opinion?
Sorry but the new jeep jk is better than the trx-4 by far, lots of people have done tests between these trucks, and axial has one every time, and that was with the Cherokee body, there are too many things to break on the trx-4
If it's that bad send it this wY I'll buy it for what you say it's worth a rock and I'll buy it any day I would love to have my hpi back so if you want to get rid of it I'll buy it for fair price or trade for trx sport with traxxs
Hi there (tried to find your name). I've been a subscriber for a good while, but had to change my compromised email address. So, here I am anew, resubscribed with a question about the HPI Venture FJ. I realize that HPI hasn't kept up very well with the RC crawler industry, but I love their FJ body. I considered a Trx4 Sport kit and a finished FJ body (can't find one), but I don't want to do a complete build. This will be my first crawler (on a budget), so is the HPI FJ still a good rig that should have parts and upgrades in the future? Thanks for your thoughts
We are going to get that. From what we've seen, it's pretty mind-blowing the realism they're able to deliver for the price. Sooo many option parts included. And the base chassis looks very solid.
How did the Venture get in here?// I agree w/ Steven you should have put the Gen 7 in here hands down best value out there- I have Traxxas I have Tamiya I have Axial- Nothing impressed me like the Redcat Everest Gen 7 Cool, Believable ,scale Body Custom Built Chassis Top of the line Product for a Budget Price
How to buy it for which model defender? Because I live in Indonesia and how much does it cost? Can I ask for his address if one day I want to buy? And how about the delivery? thanks.
Hold on. $70 premium for the trx is "expensive" but $120-150 for servo and tires is "Cheap"? Don't you really mean "I'll happily pay $70 more for it to say HPI instead of Traxxas? There's sure a lot of vitriol these days over Traxxas when I rocked them back in the day BECAUSE they weren't like Associated, Losi, and HPI charging more for a rolling chassis than an rtr traxxas. Just look how much the Axial came down in price since the TRX4 launched proving it was overpriced to begin with. I don't care what brand is on my gear if it's a horrible value and this hobby is rife with overpriced crap. This is where I'd rather see a Redcat in this mix because they may be scrubs but their value is where Traxxas was 20 years ago and look where it got them?
@@zodwraith5745 I was wondering wher redcat was because the redcat outsold that HPI for sure, I see those gen7s everywhere but have yet to see one person with this HPI unless it's on RUclips.
@Va OldSchool the Traxxas hate is funny on every RC video even if it's not about traxxas you got 500 people complaining about them putting companies out of business and bla bla bla. The portal thing redcat should be fine because Traxxas didn't invent portals they came from real world off road vehicles. The more Traxxas hate I see the more I like them lol screw the haters and my trx4 sport was way better than my scx10ii but I sold it to get the ruslter 4x4 and I wish I sold the scx10ii and kept the trx4 instead lol.
@Va OldSchool I can't wait for the gen8 and I'm probably going to get the bronco trx4, I got my scx10ii free as a gift from someone sposored by Axial and I have the CRC scx10ii the most expensive one but I would have never paid 400$ for it. The body is super thin and cheap I swapped that out for a proline 4runner body right away, the stock rims and tires sucked my stock trx4 sport tires were better and the pumpkin clearance is absolutely annoying after using portals lol you get stuck on everything in the scx10ii so it forces you to really pay attention to your wheel placement. It crawls great don't get me wrong but my trx4 sport killed it in performance and had thicker links stronger drivetrain and metal pillow balls, the 400$ scx10ii had plastic pillow balls throughout the rig I had to change them out for some brass ones. Oh and who at axial decided it was a good idea to not put a on/off switch on the scx10ii WTF that's stupid I had to actually read the instructions to figure out that it had no switch I spent 10 minutes looking for a damn on/off switch when I got it lol real fun when you have a rig with a bunch of accessories on the body and lights like I do so you have to reach under the body and blindly plug in the battery while the RC and lights all flicker on and off because you don't get it right the first time hahaha go Axial.
stock servo is a bit weak,. but that is common for stock crawlers,. the tires are great!,. love the licenced Interco Tsl Super Swampers that came stock with the Vaterra,. been using them for over a year now, and they're just awesome
adjustable chassis length comes in handy too,. that way any kind of body will fit in the future, chassis length has several settings, and the metal links also and the turning radius is amazing, even sharper than the 3 crawlers in the video, although the scx10.2 does come close

HPI Venture all day long , I added a Savox 380oz servo and aluminum suspension links ... This thing is a true performer and absolutely bullet proof .

Great review, I'm struggling to decide on my first crawler but I keep coming back to the HPI. You have just made my mind up for me!
I’ve decided on the FJC which seems to work well from what I’ve seen on other channels than what this reviewer says!

Oh and who at axial decided it was a good idea to not put a on/off switch on the scx10ii WTF that's stupid I had to actually read the instructions to figure out that it had no switch I spent 10 minutes looking for a damn on/off switch when I got it lol real fun when you have a rig with a bunch of accessories on the body and lights like I do so you have to reach under the body and blindly plug in the battery while the RC and lights all flicker on and off because you don't get it right the first time hahaha go Axial.
you said vcr i bet some kid is wondering what a vcr is
Yes a VCR is like a camcorder or like a Betamax. Period
nice ! subbed you now !
No parts always
Says "crankshaft" has no idea what a crankshaft is.
Trx4 I have cool man
I'm only 13
Where is the redcat gen7 260 bucks.
Francis Cebedo yeah steering is the biggest problem that I've noticed. Over all best starter rc for people on a smaller budget
trx 4 rusty screws
Run it in water they said...
Pinoy?
Zzzzzzzz making me sleepy.
Please
LOL,. without Vaterra,. it isn't the best review!
yes, it's really good value, and probably the best rtr straight out of the box.
stock servo is a bit weak,. but that is common for stock crawlers,. the tires are great!,. love the licenced Interco Tsl Super Swampers that came stock with the Vaterra,. been using them for over a year now, and they're just awesome
adjustable chassis length comes in handy too,. that way any kind of body will fit in the future,
chassis length has several settings, and the metal links also
and the turning radius is amazing, even sharper than the 3 crawlers in the video, although the scx10.2 does come close
Nambr one
Can you give me one
Too much bais in this one, basically did a review on the trx4. Title should of read, "why trx4 is the best rc crawler"
You lost me when you said the price😂
