    Not going to lie, a cutting brake is a pretty cool feature for a crawler. Much more viable a thing for a true rock crawler, but happy to see some innovation! Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Matt, I didn't even know of cutting brakes before this car. I learned from a few commenters here. It's a great idea and I like it better than DIG (for turning). Just would like to see full commitment to it with brakes that clamp well enough to work on rock.
      Someone in the comments suggested these would be good as front brakes on 2WD models, too. I thought that was a fine idea and it might work really well! Could be a useful feature on SCTs in particular.

    Been a factory Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda , pro bicycle mechanic for combined 45 years.
    From the 70's on, I have lived to see technology advances across all these areas.
    Now RC.
    Some advances are good. Example: Shimano SIS. STI. Look pedals, to name a few.
    Then suspension came. Then 8 speed, 9, 10, 11, 12 speed.
    Mechanical disc, Hydraulic disc. Steel frames, aluminum, carbon glued, then full carbon frames.
    If your a person not in the industry, of seeing first hand the pro's and cons of " new" technology, the consumer can easily get caught up in the " more is better" tidal wave.
    I have seen much of this.
    A lot of innovation is driven not so much as necessary, but by engineers and business to make profit. Some innovation is actually really good, and adds benefits.
    Some is terrible and causes more problems than does good.
    When carbon fiber bicycles came out, everyone is like "wow, cool". Ive worked on many a carbon frame an seen the cheap , engineering on these frames. And I mean the top brands. Some brands do it right. Some not.
    Innovation can be good, or can be just more complicated and $$$ costly.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  9 месяцев назад +1

      Sometimes innovation brings new tech to the fore in an unrefined manner, but through that process you get to see refinement as more folks spend time engineering the idea, eventually leading to a refined and useful new way of doing things. Remember when v-brakes were the new hotness in the 90s? Then hydraulic discs became a thing and now even cable-actuated discs are comparable to v-brakes. But it took time to get there.
      Of course, then there's the Trek 9000 and its auto-eject rear suspension, haha!

      Many times v1/1.0 is the most refined, not in this case, it's just an added feature that opens up some possibility. When it trickles out after has fully developed and tested, in tiers and stages ,I'm out for better or worse. I'm thinking of getting the yikong for my first decent crawler but am still on the fence. When these servos give up, do they take a regular servo? I can't see the markings

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Месяц назад +1

      They take a small servo, like the HDpower TR4, for example.
      This remains a fun and interesting machine. It's cheap for what you get, but the crawling is unrefined. As a trail truck though, for those of us who enjoy the bells and whistles, it's great.

    The frosted windows can be made clear if you varnish them. Just figure out which side has the frosting by scratching it with your nail. You may need to paint the details inside the cabin which is most likely the resason why they frosted the windows.

    Faulty servo or faulty setup i.e. no servo end point adjustments? For a "digital" yes/no channel, being able to adjust end points is crucial.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  9 месяцев назад

      Faulty servo. You do have end point adjustment on this radio. There's a config mode (full right, full reverse, power on) and then you actuate whatever channel you want to adjust and then the steering wheel to set.
      It was a faulty servo in this case. It happens sometimes in both cheap and expensive models.

      before anyone says, fiddler brakes (more often known as fiddle brakes these days) is the original name for it, cutting brakes are just a modernized form of it, fiddler brakes as the name implies are significantly more primitive

    • @RCTNT

      Hmm, possibly you could manage it. The problem is parts strength, you really need injection molded plastics and our diy stuff is extruded filament.

      Hm, very different models. RGT is basic but very high quality for the money. I'll do a video soon on getting it to go better, while the Yikong here is a pretty complete package out of the box.
      The RGT will be easier to upgrade. The Yikong has more fun stuff to play with.
      Both are fairly mediocre crawlers out of the box. I think we can make the RGT a lot better. The Yikong is the superior trail model and no amount of tinkering on the RGT will make it come out ahead on that element.

    Like diskbrakes idea on smaller scale, but for another purpose. More thinking on a serious fast 2wd. I have some, but you really need to take in account the space needed for braking. I already had the crazy idea off taking a 4x4 (loose front mid joint) and then use front diff as disk housing and fiddle somehow a brake mechanisme in there but never tried it. But curious to see how good it works in real live. I've had a 5th scale off-road with hydrolic front disk brakes (there also were machanical) and they very often didn't work properly. Often braked uneven or they didn't let loose the disk completely. But that was something like 15 or 20 years ago. Would expect some improvements in the meanwhile...

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! An undriven front diff with a disc on the drive shaft, somewhere in the chassis, that'd be how you'd achieve that idea I think. But now, these disc brakes are simple and light enough that they're the better option. And if you only want it for breaking rather than traction control, a single servo could manage it for the front or even all 4 wheels. It's an exciting development.

      Price would be another factor; I paid AUD$755 delivered for the FCX10 and AUD$583 delivered for this one. That this model is 30% cheaper is definitely worth considering.
      Overall the construction and finish is similar in both, though the body on the FMS is thicker, not to mention the branding is actually licensed! Cheers

    I was down myself from March 3 til yesterday it began to lift.
    I have a question about the steering link shock? I've never seen this .
    Can I put this on my challenger by rgt. What will I gain?

      Thank you, it's good to be back. Glad you're feeling better. I'm nowhere near well, but grateful to be able to get out and about. Could be worse and yes, trees and fresh air are a boon.
      The steering damper is a servo saver. You could look at it as an upgrade for stock servos but once you have a stronger servo, it's not really needed.
      There's another variant that looks like this but isn't a damper. Instead, it's an adjustable length steering rod. Mainly cosmetic, but looks the same as a damper. That's the one to get if you want one, I think. But it's cool on this car - adds to the complexity of it, which is kind of its thing 😎

They seem well built & there’s no reason they shouldn’t perform well. I just got the FMS 1:10 scale Blazer & it’s amazing hopefully you get it to review love to hear your review of it. Maybe not scale but individual motors for each wheel connected to a drone flight controller and some clever software could drastically improve drivability and reduce mechanical complexity. Like the Mammuth Works RC but with Chinese manufacturing knowhow and refinement.
    Only one servo for steering (maybe one more or rear steer), 4 motors (no or minimal transmission), a 4 in 1 ESC/controller/receiver would only be needed to perform all the mechanical functions of differentials, individual wheel brakes, reverse, over/underdrive to each wheel (even ZERO radius skid steering!)

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  9 месяцев назад +1

      You're not wrong, but there's a nuance here. I'll cover it in my FCX10 video, coming soon, but I see utility and scale as two ends of a spectrum, and there are hobbyists/enthusiasts on both ends of it.
      We do have the comp class Pro/MOA 2.2, where MOA stands for Motor On Axle, and they're very capable rigs.
      But then, a separate transmission, transfer case, mechanically actuated 2-speed, lockers, etc. are all a source of delight to those of us who appreciate scale recreations of the real thing.
      And of course everyone has their preferences and some like scale but still keeping it simple - Matt of @scalebuildersguild is an example of such a person. That's fine with me - I'm just grateful that there's so much choice to be found in the hobby these days. It's amazing!

Instead of incorporating fe variable torque splitters or Torsen diffs, RC cars are getting dumbed down to a point they're just not interesting anymore. The FMS is 30% more expensive than this. It has the licensed body and tires. No disc brakes but does have DIG. Body is better quality on the FMS, though it has no interior. Radios are the same.
      Chassis is steel while the Yikong is plastic, though I'm not sure which I like better on that point. Diff lock is done better on the Yikong; the fms works but that actuating arm on each diff is very exposed. Dunno how it'll like being muddy.
      Build wise, they're similar. I'd expect the fms servos to be better quality given the higher vehicle price.
      Overall, I support the fms over this given the IP theft apparent with the body on the Yikong here, and the hyrax tire treads.
      Other than that, buy the one you like better!

    Shame to cover up the interior 😕 lol.
    I own a couple of different absima (eu yikong) and have been very impressed with them so far on many levels and with general varied use.
    The only bad thing i have to mention was a build error using the wrong type of shock tops which restricted the whole suspension range, slightly unforgivable i feel with such a wrong choice of part and obvious issue, iirc the yikong had better shocks (with ball tops) included in their kit, but looks like the eu market swapped them out for cheap bum ones, disappointing... but still not a big deal to put right.😅 😂❤

      One bad decision in design or assembly can make a huge difference, unfortunately. My Rlaarlo AK-917 review was an example of this, with the receiver antenna bundled with the rest of the cables causing intermittent cuts in reception. Made the whole car look bad, though it was easily fixed. Sounds similar to your experience.

    …i dont think 1/8th scale cars have a lack of power.. i’d like to mess with an electric, but, with the older style nitro brake, and adjust the front rear bias… i would think its not as easy as just adding the motor cause throttle would be ESC then brake to the servo…? Not sure how that could be “tested” to see if it works…

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  9 месяцев назад

      Mixing could get you there, as far as control goes; whenever breaking with throttle, don't send a signal lower than zero to the esc but instead proportionally send that negative signal on another channel, to which the breaking servo/servos is/are connected. Take it a step further with traction control via independent wheel braking: each wheel's speed could be monitored with a hall sensor on each axle or wheel, depending on the car. I bet I could write the monitoring and braking system for Arduino, it could be entirely separate to throttle inputs. It's so close I can taste it! Just gotta put the time aside to build it - though I'm expecting someone is already working on it!

    Impossibel too upgrade too a Fusion because the reciever /ESC is a 2in 1 ! If you want too upgrade too a Fusion you need a new 10 channel Radio too. Yikong sell also a clear window version and also a way cheaper version without interieour shift servos and without the cutting brakes. I like the truck but its way too top heavy maybe with a light Pickup Body its perform way better. I think the Yikong 4101 perform better as a crawler.Maybe you can test also the Austar AX-X6 with Defender double cab "hardbody" ! the only TRX6 "clone" on the market but 1/3 of the prize !

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  9 месяцев назад +1

      I don't think this model needs a Fusion upgrade. The 550 32T motor is pretty perfectly paired to a well-balanced 2-speed transmission. In this case, it's not worth the expense. (And for what it's worth, I have 10 or 15 Fusion systems in various cars. I like them a lot). They've got it right such that the FOC won't be hugely missed - it doesn't crawl well enough to need it anyway, I think.

      AX-X6 is not, by far, the only TRX6 "clone" (if by clone means every architecture that Traxxas as produced first, even if it does only looks like a Traxxas copy blindfolded) ... Yikong has its own with the YK6101 (same axles as their YK4101/2/3/4/5, different from YK4106), CrossRC has its AT6 and now NT6 ... and there's still, at least here in EU, the Freemen 2.0 6x6, clone of the UMG10 6x6, that you can get in the sub 300€ once in a while.
