    I always thought it was pretty obvious that she knew. several times when it's just Shawn and Vick, she stops him from doing his stupid schtick. Another time he tells her "I better go 'divine' some evidence." Why else would he say it like that unless she knew. Henry clearly said something to her in the pilot.

    • @KJAD_Radio
      @KJAD_Radio  2 года назад +230

      Yes, Henry said something during the first episode. To summarize this video. My theory is Henry convinced Chief Vick to allow Shawn to work cases as a "fake" psychic because Shawn has so much potential and could be a cop with a request of a criminal waiver. Vick slid in this favor for Henry and they both get what they want, Officer Spencer. Shawn realized the Chief knew he wasn't psychic during their "divine" moment. At the end of Season 6 Episode 16 Henry tells Vick “it’s time” and offers Shawn beer to discuss some things as Shawn jokes around about becoming a cop. However Henry got shot that night which changed everything. Why does this matter?
      "It’s not him getting shot that deters the conversation physically. It’s the fact that he becomes disillusioned to what the police badge means to him. His heart and loyalty to police work are shattered when he finds out he was surrounded by dirty cops, and almost dies because of one of them. So he doesn’t push Shawn to be a cop, like he originally intended to" (Samantha Angelovich)

      The whole "he said you got it when you turned 18" scene lines up with when Shawn was arrested and no longer allowed to be a cop. Pair that with the fact that he solved a very high profile case right off the bat and it's very plausible her and her friend Henry hatched a plan to help the SBPD solve difficult cases.

      The fact that Lassiter broke the DVD was the single greatest moment of the entire series!
      I am dead serious! I thought it was an outstanding series all the way through. However, it was the moment that the DVD was broken I knew it was an incredible series and the true admiration set in.
      The entire time Lassiter knew there was SO much more to the story...yet, out of pure respect for Shawn, Lassiter simply let him have it. He..just..let..it..be...then moved on in peace.

      @@redlefevre5448 I think there's a bit of a duality there, yes Lassie does obviously know that Shawn isn't being truthful and towards the end of the series definitely does respect him as a cop/detective, but it's also partly that physically acknowledging that Shawn isn't psychic is also physically acknowledging that much of the evidence they used to put all these criminals away was obtained illegally and thus would invalidate all of those cases.

      @@ninetailedfox579121yeah, I think the 2nd Movie really demonstrates how Lassie ultimately felt about Shawn. He saw Shawn and Gus as friends that could get him back on his feet and properly reunite with his wife.

    • @cora2658
      @cora2658 2 месяца назад +14

      That moment was the best.
      Lassiter already knew Shawn wasn’t psychic, but they established early on that the only way they’d be able to prove it was if Shawn admitted to it. Or if he was caught in a lie. What Shawn was doing was highly illegal and it would have landed him in prison and undid a whole lot of their prior cases on a technicality.
      If Shawn admits he’s not a psychic, Lassiter would have been legally obligated to turn him in. It’s why he broke it. The fact that Shawn was at least willing to maybe admit it, was enough. The rest is plausible deniability.

    • @nerdjournal
      @nerdjournal 18 дней назад +3

      @@ninetailedfox579121 I mean, not really. Shawn is an advisor, so all evidence still had to follow the proper chain of command. Rather Shawn is actually a psychic or not doesn't matter so long as the police follow evidentiary procedure while collecting and cataloging the evidence. Shawn's pantomime always reveals the killer, but he always discloses the evidence throughout the show. While we may not see a lot of the collection when it comes to the evidence, what Shawn sees HAS to be collected at some point, or they wouldn't have any case. Because Psychics allegations don't carry any water legally speaking. In fact, it would probably look better for the police in court IF it came out that Shawn was just an excellent investigator over a psychic. But Shawn's position as an advisor only allows him to share his opinions with the police. A lot of the times, Shawn makes sure he does operate within the confines of the law. That's one of the best things about the series, the whole Shawn and Gus lie about being Psychics, but tend to operate within the confines of the law so they DON'T Jeopardize the cases. In most cases he finds a way to be invited into the area instead of actually illegally breaking in.

Obviously this was an attempt by Lassie to preserve the idea in his head that Shawn, who he now realized he was quite fond of after being promoted to Chief, was in fact psychic and to deny his intuition and now actual knowledge that he's faking it.

  • @cammy85
    @cammy85 2 года назад +497

    That explains why both Henry and Karen are so hard on Shawn especially whenever he gets in over his head. Because they both want him to succeed. It's good that you included the scene between Shawn and Madeleine because that helps to bring it full circle. The police academy was good too, not just because they blew a stakeout in that episode. And you can't help but feel bad for Henry when he left the force again. Declan's analysis of Shawn was PERFECT!! I can't believe Declan would help them on another occasion after that.

  • @cameronbennett8151
    @cameronbennett8151 2 года назад +303

    I think Chief Vick knew from very early on, but I don't think Henry and Karen were trying to get Shawn to be a police detective. The way the police force operates is not a good match for Shawn, and I think over time, Henry realized that too.
    I figured that in the pilot, Karen and Henry's talk was one that had many layers. Like, Henry was outwardly saying that Shawn's "powers" manifested when Shawn turned 18, but he was actually implying that they never existed but that he had good detective skills.
    I'm just spit-balling here, but maybe Henry said something like, "Shawn's psychic skills are right 18% of the time since they "manifested" when he was 18, but his memory is right 100% of the time and he knows how to follow the "spirits" to the clues and reason with them to figure out their importance." And Karen's smart so she picked up on the subtext.
    She's fine with Shawn's antics in public, but, like in the scene you showed, when it's just the two of them she's telling him to cut the bullshit.
    There's also a scene early on where she gives Shawn a case file and he looks at it for a few seconds and goes, "the secretary did it," and she's like, "you barely looked at," and without realizing it, he starts responding by revealing how he got to that conclusion. When Gus nudges him to stop, Shawn goes back into his psychic schtick and Karen just shakes her head a little at him looking annoyed. I feel like if she was on the fence about whether or not he was really psychic, she would have dug into him a bit more, but instead, she just begrudgingly accepts his conclusion and then has regular detectives question the secretary.

      Yes, 100% agreed. Like others, I had a feeling she knew, but I don't think the end goal was to help him become an officer or a detective. That would take years of Sean's life away from doing what he's already doing.
      I think the agreement was something like: he's a good man, he'll solve a lot of cases for you and he'll be able to help people out, just pretend he's a psychic and it will make lives easier.

    You bring some points I actually never thought about before, and it does all make sense.
    But Shawn could never be a cop.
    Cops need plausable evidence, and records as to how they got it. A cop can't break and enter, or eavesdrop private conversations, or do any of the morally gray stuff Shawn does on the daily.
    I always thought that Vic did know Shawn wasn't psychic, but she went along with it because he could do all that stuff (as long as he wasn't caught), and while the cops can't say "I eavesdropped on their conversation where they admitted it", they can say, at least in the show's universe, "a psychic tipped us off and that's enough reason for us to investigate that person".
    If Vic ever had any evidence of Shawn not being a psychic, she'd be duty-bound to present it, nullifying all the cases he worked on.
    That's also the reason, i think, for why Lassiter broke the confession DVD in the last episode. He always knew, he just couldn't have any evidence.

      I know it’s been a while since you commented, but I think Lassie snapped the DVD because Lassie ended up really caring about Shawn, if you notice he doesn’t snap the evidence after viewing the entire thing, he cuts it short. I think lassie couldn’t fathom Shawn lying the whole time because he cared too much and since he snapped the DVD early he would not know for certain that Shawn was going to say he wasn’t Psychic. There would always be a place for Lassie to rationalize that Shawn was going to say he was not a fraud or something to that effect even though to the viewers he was obviously going to confess to not being psychic because it’s important that we watching know for sure what he was going to say.

    She knew and obviously Henry and Gus knew but I’m also sure Lassiter knew. No he wasn’t just being a pertinacious POS, he knew deep down shawn was full of it but Shawn got the job done and was a great detective. I think it happened the most in the “65 million years off episode.I think that’s when he really knew, he was just trying to find proof, like lassy always does but never could, til the finale. But yes, I agree with your theory

      Chief: suspected it and had proof
      Lassiter: suspected it, but didn’t have proof
      Juliet: had proof, but didn’t suspect anything
      Everyone else: neither suspected nor had proof
      Both Chief and Lassie (at least towards the end) didn’t actually want to know for sure because as long as Shawn didn’t directly tell them, they wouldn’t have to feel guilty for the under the table stuff he did to put the criminals in jail.

    At the end of the "Think Tank" episode Cheif Vick says she saw Henry at the pizza parlor. Henry said: He missed a lot of Shawn's games as a kid and just wanted to see him work. She asked Henry "exactly how much input he has in Shawn's cases. Henry replies "I get involved in the process I guess and Shawn's psychicness takes over"
    Why would she ask and Henry say that if they already talked about Shawn not being psychic? Good video, but I just think she knew like lassie always knew.

    • @tonyblake7569
      @tonyblake7569 2 года назад +4

      Don't remember that but she could have asked him because if like it's said here she's giving him a chance before she gives him the waver she wants to make sure he's doing the work and not relying on his dad. And by saying his psychiness takes over could just be his way of saying she knows that's not how he does things and Shawn is actually doing the work himself.
      Edit: plus they're both smart and know there's always a chance someone can be listening so even when they're alone they're careful what they say.

      Thought that too but when I remember correctly, henry says it with a very specific "we both know the truth" face.
      The reason why vick might ask is just because she wants to get henry back to the SBPD to see, if he's still into solving crimes.
      Both could be true. But at the end, almost everyone knew that he wasn't telling the truth but there was no way to proof otherwise.

      Sorry if I made it seemed like Henry died. Some users elaborated more here on the pinned comment section. Here is a quote from Samantha Angelovich, from the comments, that basically supports the theory of why Henry discontinued to push Shawn to be a cop,
      "It’s not him getting shot that deters the conversation physically. It’s the fact that he becomes disillusioned to what the police badge means to him. His heart and loyalty to police work are shattered when he finds out he was surrounded by dirty cops, and almost dies because of one of them. So he doesn’t push Shawn to be a cop, like he originally intended to"

    I like this theory. I ALWAYS thought that somehow chief Vick knew/knows the truth. I never thought of the henry angle before but I could buy it. Only one problem with your theory though. You said that Henry's gun shot was the reason he never revealed the plan. But henry survived the shot so why couldn't he have done it later. So maybe it has nothing to do with henry but she just never really believed shawn and is just pretending he is psychic because she believes he is a great detective.
