    Whilst I'm not much of a gin drinker I do love a Gimlet. I always have lime cordial in the fridge, but that's a nifty trick with the marmalade, will try that . It was also a favourite of Crime Author Raymond Chandler, and I sometimes follow his very simple recipe of two jiggers of gin one of lime cordial, shake or stir with shaved ice and into a chilled glass. Done ! In the hottest of weather I sometimes put this into a highball glass and top with lime infused tonic water for what I call 'A Long Good Gimlet' after his novel 'The Long Goodbye'. it keeps me amused .

    It's hard for me to say which one is my favorite. A Basil Smash is outstanding, as is a Gordon's Cup. I make many Tom Collins as well. The one that really stands out though is the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a; Tiki is a favorite.

    Not so fond of cucumber in gin; reminds me of Hendricks. I like a take on a gimlet where fresh juniper berries are muddled in a Boston shaker before the other ingredients are added. This adds pretty green colour and reinforces the gin element. Your Jabberwocky cocktail is awesome - I had never made one before. Great work!

    First let me say "Hi" to you, because I'm new to this channel, but I've already seen dozens of your videos during a couple of days. As for gin based cocktails I've obviously tried a classic G&T, but the one that surprised me with its freshness was actually the one that was missing here. THE SOUTHSIDE you've shown seems to be having the most similar refreshing effect. But here's what I want to share - Gin Basil Smash. Here is the recipe for you all:
    40 ml Gin
    20 ml simple syrup
    A handful of basil leaves
    A Half of lemon
    PREPARATION: Put basil with half of lemon into the shaker and muddle gently. Next put syrup and gin, top up with ice and shake well. Strain into old fashioned glass filled with ice and serve.
    So now you know ;-) (I've already fallen in love with this hook line at the end of your every recipe, a great signature line :) ). I'm also subscribed to a channel made by a Polish (like me) bartender and he says at the end of his recipes something like: "Have fun, experiment, contrive, but remember - don't overdo it!" :D

    A London dry basil martini. Fresh and herbal and delightful for all the senses. Handful of Genovese basil in the bottom of a Shaker, muddle until macerated, 1/2 oz good dry vermouth such as Noilly Prat, 2 oz of a London dry or similar style clean gin with a pronounce herbal yet not overwhelmingly Piney character. Shake and strain into glass. If you want it a little smoother just a few drops of olive juice ads that nice bit of brine.

    Seems like adding rose’s lime marmalade, plus lime juice plus simple syrup can makes and effect that can be achieved with just the original rose’s lime juice.

    • @BehindtheBar
      @BehindtheBar  4 года назад

      Of course if you have that to hand and find it easier then go for it! Lime cordial just has a lot of fruit concentrate and flavours, artificial preservatives etc whereas decent lime marmalade is basically just lime and sugar. I like having the fresh lime juice in there still and just a tiny tangy sweetness from the marmalade- I find cordial overwhelms the other ingredients 😊

    For the vegan friendly/foam version, just add 30ml of Aquafaba...and shake as hard as you can.

    Tom Collins should be shaken!

      It definitely tastes good that was as well but as far as I can tell that’s what makes it a gin fizz rather than a Collins - I did a bit of digging for this article if you were interested:

    what's wrong with classic gin gimlet with fresh lime juice + sugar?

    • @BehindtheBar
      @BehindtheBar  4 года назад +1

      Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but the classic recipe is with lime cordial (Rose’s specifically). So the lime marmalade brings some of that candied sweetness to the fresher variation you’re talking about. If you’re happy without then you do you!
