Crazy Cordial & Garnish in a Clear Gimlet

- Making a crazy cordial & garnish and using them in a clear Gimlet in one way to make this simple two ingredient cocktail in your own way. The Gimlet can be really good when using a nice gin and quality lime cordial. But I’ll show you a clarified cordial with roses and smoke, so you can make yourself the best Gimlet you ever had, with a special garnish, for a little extra touch. In this episode I will teach you how to add multiple ingredients to a cordial, then how to clarify it with agar agar and smoke it using cherry wood chips and a smoking gun. It’s quite a process to get there but believe me, it’s worth it. A crystal clear Gimlet with so much flavor is just awesome. And the garnish? An unconventional isomalt hard candy represents the clarity of the cocktail with colorful ingredients on top to show the flavors in it.

Wow 🤓 Great video!🍸 Thanks for the shout out✌
With pleasure! Your channel helped a lot in making this episode! Thank you!
Your preparation and attention to detail is definitely next-level. Your channel is the best out there for twists on classics. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks, Hayden, so happy you appreciate our work! Cheers!
Loved this episode and the Mrs will too (Gimlets are her favourite!)..
Glad you both like it! Thank you, Steve!
"But why not try something new", should be the unofficial motto of this channel.
Haha, I love it!
I love your clarified cocktail videos! You always mention that you’ve gone through the process so many times before with agar agar, but I appreciate you showing it every time! It makes it less scary to make these at home. Keep up the good work!
I'm so glad to hear this! Some of these things seem way more complicated than they are, and they produce something unique. Cheers, Lucas!
"But why not learn something new?"
My friend, I could cry from sheer joy at the amount of new things I learn from watching your videos.
Awesome! So happy to hear that!
There's an old adage popular where I live: "Three ingredients is a cocktail, two ingredients is an emergency." But, I would readily make an exception for a drink made with ingredients that are themselves made yourself. Excellent work!
Ah, I spoke too soon. A garnish counts as an ingredient in this case. You never cease to impress me
If you count saline solution in the second cocktail it's three ingredients, even without the garnish! And if two ingredients is an emergency, what's a pre-batched Old Fashioned that you just pour on the rocks straight from the bottle? 😎
@@KevinKos I'm going to use some of your recipes and start a few arguments between pedants back home 😉
@@ardentdrops hahaha!
I knew this from MadMen :)
Can I just say how happy I am to have discovered your channel last month? You are just straight up inspiring with your creativity.
Thank you so much, Mark, that really means a lot! Glad to have you here, cheers!
That garnish is INSANE
DUDE you are awesome. I love that you are so knowledgeable about all the history on all these cocktails. You do all my favorite parts of How to Drink and then you do us one better by making a simple version and a classed up version. I love your channel!
Just made this last night and it was absolutely incredible. Made me smile. Thanks Kev
This really is an incredible mixologist channel. Thanks Kev!
I always love seeing your unique creations
Your videos are very high quality! Not something I expect from such a small channel, having content that are on par with other big channels while still managing to have its unique personality. Keep up the work!
I appreciate it! Cheers!
I love so much your videos and preparations, you are a really a master of cocktails!
I really want to try this cocktail. It looks delicious.
It was the Gimlet that first got me into cocktails about 20 years ago after I read Raymond Chandler's "The Long Good-bye" in which it featured. Rose's Lime Cordial in the UK sticks closer to its original recipe than in the US I think, but freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar syrup makes a refreshing alternative.
Thanks Kevin for making me learn a lot
Again and again, Mr. Kos.
Another great showcase....
Keep it up so I could learn more with you.
Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you for coming back to watch the videos again and again! Cheers!
Great video, I love to come home every Friday to a new episode!
Thank you, Tobi, glad you take time out of your Friday afternoon to hang out! Cheers!
WoW, The presentation on this cocktail is amazing Kevin. I have worked with isomalt before but this one was such a nice, beautiful garnish.
Thank you for great video as always🥂 definitely will try this one.
That looks outstanding!
Thank you!
Absolutely incredible!
Thank you, Rahul!
Thx my favorite cocktail

Amazing bro! Cheers 🥂
you just blow my mind with every episode so inspiring 🤯
Thank you!
That garnish is gorgeous! Beautiful cocktail (& video) as always. I must try this cordial
Thanks a lot! I hope you will try this one 😉
This cocktail looks mad delicious!
Looks were not deceiving this time, if i say so myself. Thank you, Les, Cheers!
So simple and easy, that's why I love your recipes... 🧐 But honestly love the effort Kevin!
First we cover the simple & easy, then we throw the apron on and get to work, right? 😉 Thank you, Peter!
I stumbled across your channel a few days ago. These look really good. I bet a classic daiquiri would be sublime with this lime cordial.
My favorite Gimlet recipe is 2 Oz Gin, 1 Oz lime and half an Oz of Simple syrup. It makes it like a Gin daquri and I love it.
Great video as always. Love your innovation. You have inspired me on many occasion, so thank you. Keep the videos coming. This is one drink I'll have to soon.
Thank you!
Just amazing!!!
Thank you!
Love the gimlet, very simple little thing end of the day, though making my own cordial sounds like a bunch of fun and anything but simple lol. That said I have been stepping away from drinks atm, watching my sugar intake, and well, alcohol has much sugar lol. That said, will always be watching for that video that makes me grab that occasional drink. Cheers!
Svaka čast Kevine! Bukvalno sam oduševljen.
Bravo i sve pohvale za zadržaj 💪🏻🙌🏻
Hvala ti puno!
Wonderful recipe!
After ~ 10 days, the smoke dissipates and the cordial becomes more acidic (too acidic for a tasty gimlet). At this point, I’ve enjoyed mixing 1.25oz cordial, 1oz cachaça, 1/4 oz Cointreau, 2 drops saline solution. :)
Brilliant! Cheers.
Thank you! Cheers!
I used your Mint and Lime Cordial from the Clarified Mojito episode to make a South Side. It was wonderful!
Ooh I like the pocket watch transition animation!
Nice to see the feedback! Thanks!
Gimlet..I luv your recipe!
So glad! Thank you and cheers!
you are so next level, I'm pretty sure it's illegal
Just found your channel, really nice I must say, got new subscriber, greetings from Mexico!
Wowwwwwwww...thanks for the class
With pleasure!
Neat.
Not usually a fan of gin. But this looks delicious 😋
Big chef
Clarified cocktails are a current craze that I don't really grasp, but I do love the cordial recipe. I love the idea of a Gimlet without Rose's, which I'm not a huge fan of. I'll be making that. Would you do anything differently without adding the agar?
Kevin you are the home bartender I hope to grow to grow up to be
Rickey would be great with that Cordial especially if u carbonated your self. With clearer substance the more fizz it gets.
Hi! Love your videos. Can you please let us/me know who the manufacture of your coupe glass is? I really like the shape/size of the glass. :)
Tremendous content! Super interesting! I don’t see any info or links for the “smoke machine”. What is this unit called and where is a good place to source one?
Interesting. I created the Morgenthaler lime cordial and used it to make gimlets. I LOOOOOVED them, but it seems that some people prefer the milder 'gin sour' variation (gin, lime juice, sweetener). So now when I offer someone a gimlet, I always ask them if they want the classic version or the modern one. (Sometimes I pronounce 'modern' as 'Shi**y') :)
I created a cocktail called a Swamp Fairy that maaaaybe would work with your cordial, honestly not sure. It's 2 oz. gin, 3/4 oz simple syrup, 3/4 oz fresh lime juice, 1/2 oz green Chartreuse, and 4 or 5 basil leaves. This may offend your sensibilities, but I muddle the basil with the lime juice, add everything else, then shake and strain but only through a cobbler shaker, I don't fine strain, so the drink gets lime pulp and just small shreds of basil, hence, Swamp Fairy. Pretty much the opposite of a clarified cocktail. The Chartreuse may be problematic with the rose, smoke, and pepper, but I'll leave it to you as the expert to decide if it sounds good or horrible. I don't have the experience to always tell if something sounds good on paper, I sometimes just have to dive in and try it, but it's fun. Thanks for the inspiring and educational videos, cheers!
As soon as I saw the name Swamp Fairy I knew I must try this one!! Sounds amazing!
The chartreuse would probably "kill" the rose but it would go well with pepper and smoke. Also, both would go with basil too. I like your idea! Thank you for taking your time and sharing your recipe! Cheers!
@ Thanks so much, hope you like it, cheers!
@@KevinKos And thank you for taking the time to reply, it's much appreciated, cheers!
Well done bro...well.. this beautiful cordial it would underline a smoky and floral version of paloma with a little bit o f mezcal!!
Great suggestion! Thank you very much!
Maybe I've overlooked something, but is there also a video, where you just prepare a 'classic' lime cordial? Would be really interesting. Thank you! :)
Who doesn't like a good Gimlet? Awesome take!
Are these 50ml pipette bottles that you use for saline and bitters, Kevin? And may I ask how you make such nice bottle labels?
Does the milk washing technique remove all of the casein (milk protein). The owner of my restaurant has dietary restrictions, and I am having a hard time finding the answer.
Love your content, great pace, and informative.
KEVIN!!!! I love a Gimlet, but mine look NOTHING like yours!!!! This is a great idea!!! Awesome video as always!!! CHEERS!!!!
My friend, your French Gimlet looks nice! Thank you Tim!
@@KevinKos Thank you so much!!!
This one was my favourite by far! Can't explain the flavours but it was a dang good one! Despite the fact that I can't stand gin in general (bad experience 😂) this cocktail was truly delicious! Bravo.
I am glad you love it! It falls into my top 5 creations in my opinion 😊 Thank you!
Hola Kevin!! Una pregunta, que tipo de tela utilizas para clarificar?
Saludos y excelentes vídeos, siempre 🙌
Muslin or Cheesecloth
Amazing video! Never seen a modern bar tender throw a cocktail. Did you try to mix and shake before throwing?
Yes, I have, but I like threw one the best.
Beautiful video! What is the diameter of the silikomart?
What watch are you wearing in this video? I love the face and overall design of it
This one is from the brand called Zeppelin. Thank you!
优雅,高端
Great video as always. Why are cordials often preferred to use over flavored syrups + sour element (Flavored rose water syrup + Lemon/lime juice for instance)?
Good question! Like mentioned, the historic usage was to preserve citrus juice with sugar. As luck would have it, the combination is made even better if you add a spirit. Modern use just makes it a bit faster I guess, so you can prep to make a bunch of cocktails and just use different spirits for the base. Gin, rum, tequila, you're good to go. Hope this helps!
Any chance this would keep longer if you disinfected the bottle by putting it into boiling water for 1-2 minutes? Or do you think heating the cordial would ruin the flavour?
Salud🍻🇲🇽
Cheers, Jorge!
It would be interesting to get your take on making cordials for tiki or tiki adjacent drinks (fruity 'marinis', etc) or do you think the variants required wouldn't be practical? Could you make a fruit specific cordial (passion fruit, pineapple) and make tinctures to add flavors like coconut etc?
I am not such a big fan of cordials in classic "Tiki" drinks, but it might be done in some cocktail that has elevated from these types of drinks.
People say I make a good cocktail…BUT my goal is to make a cocktail that Kevin would sip and quietly say …” that has …a nice ..flavour……….I like it”
Absolutely incredible 🙌🏻 Im visiting Slovenia (Maribor) mid December, do you have an events lined up 16th-20th?
Awesome! I don't work behind a bar anymore but DM me on Instagram so I can give you some must-visit spots reccomedations.
@@KevinKos Fantastic, will do!

How much percentage for citric acid inside mixture if i want make another cordial?
What kind of watch do you have 🤔??
Wow..I’m all about a gimlet but this is next level… not sure about all the effort for the garnish..is it edible ?
Yes, it's edible. Thank you so much!

I make my own lime cordial because the ingredients that go into Rose's are just blah. I don't clarify or anything, though. I just use fresh lime juice, zest, sugar, water and citric acid. I'd like to try your recipe at some point.
Nice! Cheers!
I'd love to try the cordial this summer, seems the perfect refreshing drink if mixed with sparkling chilled water!
The only problem is that I can only find malic acid online in 1kg bags and I'm sure over 100g would be pretty overkill, where do you buy yours? Also, I have some anhydrous and monohydrate citric acid, which one dose the weights refer to?
This weights refers to anhydrous citric acid. I bought this malic acid on amazon, but I found a speciality store for vineyards that offers different packages of malic acid.
@@KevinKos thanks man :)

Are all awesome bro
I appreciate it! Glad that I sparked your passion for bartending! Thank you!
Any reason the cordial is only good in the fridge for only 10 days? Is that just how long the smoke is going to stay present? Is there any reason it would last (fairly) indefinitely like most cordials, just with a loss of smokiness?
I think smoke can make it taste funky after too long. If your batch lasts longer please report back with the findings! Cheers, Stephen!
Can somebody tell me for what we added saline solution?
It brings out all of the flavors. Like in food when you add salt it intensifies flavors. Thanks for the question!
@@KevinKos Ty)
I wonder to what extent you think it's beneficial to make your own cordial if you are making super juice? I was thinking about making some cordial with my lime super juice when I realised that super juice is practically a cordial without the sugar. I then proceeded to make a 2:1:1 gimlet with super juice and simple and to me it tasted about as good as a cordial version.
you are right! Super juice mixed with sugar syrup is actually cordial. I would rather go with 2, .75, .75. though.
Please send samples to viewers. Thanking in advance!
Hi, Kevin u don't cook ur cordials just asking and please y or that the best way of making cordials ????
I used filtered water and I wanted to keep the flavors fresh.
you'd need to just have an online store by now for your most used ingredients or I should, hmmm.
That's at least a $40 drink 😁
Haha, but it's well spent 40$
This is the best porn on the internet!
Absolutely useless . No sane person will be doing all this for a single ingredient . Channel about cocktail for the sake of cocktails. Take a cocktail recipe and make it absolutely impractical.
