Sabbath school lesson 2024 titled ‘Lessons of the Past’ - Lesson 10 Q1. In our 10th Bible study in the book of Psalms, we will address the following questions:
👉🏼Why do we have Psalms that only seem to recount the past experiences of God’s people?
👉🏼How would it affect us if we did not remember?
👉🏼What if we have not been faithful to God, what would be the use of remembering his works?
👉🏼What should we retain from this study?
Key Bible Text: “Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and His strength and His wonderful works that He has done” (Psalm 78:3, 4, NKJV).

The book of Psalm is a great way to remember the attributes of how the Universal GOD, our Creator has done, are doing for us, and these are the things that are to be passed on to our offsprings so they can see and be connected to the Almighty GOD ❤

True SDA history needs needs to be taught in our homes, schools, churches and everywhere. Some online sites may be useful for this. Searching by names of these individuals, faithful to the Church is probably the best way to do this.

The history of Israel was recorded in Scripture for our benefit that we may learn from their mistakes as well as from their infrequent successes. This is the overall purpose of history in general, both Church history, personal history and even secular history. The Israelites were and we are to share this history with our children and grand children, even to the younger members of the Church and to new church members. How successful have we been at this? From my perspective, not very successful. The spiritual and physical state of the Church shows that. Widespread doctrinal and social confusion; relatively few accessions compared to membership; large attrition compared to accessions. Schools in declension, hospitals in chaos, etc, families in chaos, high divorce like the world. These are all symptoms of our failure to keep Isreal's history and our own history before the eyes of our children. But God is merciful. With the Holy Spirit's help, we can redeem the time. We can diligently do what He assigned us to do and prayerfully beseech Him to restore the years that the canker has stolen.
Thanks for your comment, Edith. We would definitely benefit from knowing, but like with Israel, the lack of knowledge was not due to the absence of it. It was the neglect and spite of it that created the history we know. We have never lived in a time when there is so much information about almost anything we want to know, but just knowledge is insufficient. If we want to address our issues successfully, our righteousness will have to exceed that of the Pharisees as Jesus said in Mt. 5.20. Blessings
