    LOVE that Matt was so quick to say “No it’s not fine” because it is not! As someone who has been in a physically abusive relationship, I think it so easy to down play our experience because we already lived it.

      He didn't care to include his wife Abby in the conversation.
      Also, he obviously loves the camera and attention, including doing every single sponsered ad. It's extremely weird and felt so uncomfortable watching

      @ you could tell abby was a bit uncomfortable and kinda awkward in some spots in the conversation, not his fault, he was being genuinely respectful about the whole conversation at hand and was intrigued.

      She really has! I just watched, what I’m assuming, is one of the first episodes and she was so childlike and I was so upset at her parents because they treated her that way. It seem like very limiting for her. It looks like the show helps A LOT!

      To be fair, her parents did hinder her in that regard. They were very over protective. Rightfully so given the circumstances. But her lack of maturity wasnt really her fault.

Lot's about Shawna and good amount about Abbey but zero about Matt. This is his podcast. It's an interview style podcast! They literally ask questions of every guest they have on. This isn't the Shawna show.

      I had a learning disability growing up in couldn't remeber alot of things for school. So I didn't learn like everyone else, I had to tell a boss the other day someone explained something to me. But my brain needs you to show me how to do it. Some times I still struggle. And I was in a class thag had extra help. And not everyone knows unless I say something. I use to struggle alot in my early 20s but I'm trying so hard now to learn and write everything down to remeber. I'm probably a little bit taller then Shauna but not buy much tbh.

    I love this! I myself have dwarfism, I’m 45 years old and people treat me like I’m a child. Like they ask weird questions and don’t realise that they are offending you. Like I just went grocery shopping the other day, and some random guy came up and asked me where my parents were and who was shopping with me. It really made me feel a little upset. It’s so hard to deal with things like that. So I know exactly how you feel. People really should actually be more careful about what they say. Especially when you’re grocery shopping. They see you pushing the buggy by yourself, so obviously you’re an adult and not a child. It gets frustrating. And then when someone tells you that you’re so adorable! I’m not a child, or a cute furry animal! I AM AN ADULT!

      If someone had questioned the boys who kidnapped James Bulgar in more detail... he would be in his mid thirties by now.
      I get it must be frustrating but checking in what you think is a child and no obvious parents in site with a buggy is normal.
      Obviously depending on their response when they realise may mean they ARE an arsehole!

      @steven77777 11 months ago +7

    Cancer can definitely mess with your hormones. My son had cancer at age 4 and MANY people tried to reassure me that they knew someone who had cancer as a child and was still able to have children. Umm what??? That wasn’t even on the last page of all my concerns for him. I just wanted him cured. And he was. He’s a senior in HS now and has remained in remission for 11 years. I still am unbothered by whether he can or cannot have his own children: he’s alive and healthy.

    • @judymurray191
      @judymurray191 Year ago +11

      No of course you weren’t concerned about that. They probably didn’t think of her reproducing when she was fighting to get over the cancer either. It became an issue years later when she wanted to have children. It’s a whole terribly sad situation for all of you. I wish a long health life for your son.

    After reading through a lot of the comments I just find it really sad that a lot of these people can't seem to put themselves in her shoes, but they are still willing to judge her and make assumptions about her. Living with a disability in an ableist society is really tough and this comment section shows it. I am grateful for the people talking with kindness and offering different perspectives.

      @babybowzerfor the last 25 years of her life, every single day she has been called a child and treated as such. She is used to the daily routine of someone acting like she is a 10 year old, when in reality is an adult with adult responsibilities. I think that instead of a victim personality, it’s more of a regulated response to the day to day interactions she faces.

      @kathyjam2482 Well they are nit referring to this clip. They are referring to how onnone had she claims to be independent and doesn't need anyone but them gets super whiney and seems to embrace her disability to the point of embodying all it's limits instead of trying to overcome what she can. She turns back into a child very quickly when faced with hard things and hides unde her parents care. That's what ppl mean.

    I have watched Shauna's show on TLC and had a lot of respect for her. After watching this, I am so impressed with her resolve. To be a woman of short stature and to be so comfortable with her body and so confident in herself at her age is very impressive. As a disabled adult I totally understand what she means about people being happy with themselves & their life. So many people do nothing but complain about their disability, but do nothing to help themselves.

    As a wheelchair user when she is talking about bad connotation of words YES. Also she’s so correct unfortunately with how competitive this community can be🥺 but it can be beautiful to have friendships with people who relate. Absolutely love that you had her on. Thank you!

      Except she said "wheelchair bound" and wheelchair users know our chair is our freedom and you don't say that. She also said handicapped so she has a lot to learn about words herself. We can all keep learning.

    I don't think Abby was rude or disinterested during this episode. As she explained at the end (and she did apologise for not talking more), she was letting Matt lead and giving Shauna plenty of opportunity to talk. Both Matt and Abby are always so non-judgemental and gracious in the way they interact with other people, even if they have different morals from them. E.g. Shauna clearly does not believe it would be best to save sex until the commitment of marriage, as Matt and Abby do, but not once did Matt or Abby step in and suggest this to her and that it might have spared her a lot of grief. I was super impressed how respectful and empathetic Matt and Abby were when they interviewed Taylor Odlozil (Ep. 87), as Abby's tears throughout and the way they gave him space to speak showed. Matt and Abby have loving hearts ❤

      Absolutely not! I just believe in thinking the best and being a peacemaker and that you can't assume someone is rude and disinterested if they don't say much - they may not be able to get a word in or they may be feeling uncomfortable!

    Matt really carried this interview. He’s always trying to get more insight but he really seemed to care and carry the conversation. Abby was noticeably uncomfortable which is very common for Shauna to experience, most women can’t see her as a woman bc she so much so resembles a child still.

      @AdrienneM08yes…I usually think someone’s personality and attitude usurps how they look, but there’s something still childish about Shauna. Maybe some sort of entitlement? I can’t really pinpoint it so would like to hear why other people think this way too.

    I understand how she feels because I have Lupus and Fibromyalgia and other health issues. Some people look at me and say “You don’t look sick!” I’m almost 60 and still here people tell me that I’m way too young to be sick. Like age has anything to do with it.! People just assume I’m fine because the way I look and that’s always upset me.

    I had a best friend in high school, and I treated her just like any other friends of mine. But our bond was special enough where i could take her from class to class and not get in trouble for it. And helped her out of the school before an assembly or prep rally was over. And those little things helped both of us out in completely different way. She isn't on socialmedia, so its very hard for me to get back touch with her. And I think of her alot and miss her so much. I see her when looked at Shauna like a friend.

      It’s such a delicate topic. I honestly wouldn’t have said much either if I was in one of those chairs, especially if you have a very strong stand on your opinion, one way or the other and if it doesn’t align with the other person in the conversation, there’s no point to argue about it.

      i had addict parents.. i fell asleep in the car most nights, because i’d been stuck at the bar every afternoon/evening.
      once older.. like 10 or 11, i ran a business of entertaining other ppl’s children each night, so that parents weren’t annoyed by them.. i felt like a boss, making 20-60$ nightly, and charged more on weekends. lol
      i learned to hustle from the bar at way too early of an age; thanks to a bunch of addiction parents.
