As a teacher in the state sector, this won’t help us. There’s around 25,000 state schools nationally, and £1.7 billion generated would only provide £68,000 per school, which is enough to hire 2 teachers. Not much change at all, especially when all those formerly private school’d students arrive…

Esther needs to allow Henry to speak. She is very irritating. She overspeaks on every platform she is on.

Definitely this will increase pressure on already under performing state schools 😊

They will have more money to build more schools. The article is written by right wing lobbyists ie they are NOT independent. In regards social mobility - numerous studies have shown that there is miniscule social mobility in this country and a huge part of that is because the public school system has a tight hold on all the top jobs in this country as the vast majority of the attendees of these schools are the richest people in the country!

Why should she? That's the nature of a debate. Henry needs to bully her or discredit her. Right or wrong, strength usually wins

There's not just the VAT money, is it. Private schools get lots of funding from the state. If pupils migrate the private sector, that money will come to state schools.

    £68000 is better than nothing.
I mean government needs to raise money from somewhere and it’s just one small area.
Labour needs to go much further in chasing money from the rich.
We’ve had 14 years of austerity which has affected every public service you can think of.
We have the highest tax burden for 80 years
But we have the worst out comes.
Where has all this money gone?
    Across the board.
Everything is outsourced for profit for companies/corporations
£800 billion so far has been spent for covid ……. Where has that money ended up. It’s £16000 per adult head. I’m not £16000 better off.
It’s madness. The country has gone massively backwards the stats and visually there to be seen.
The tories have no answer as they don’t want change . Obviously.
