How To: Inverted Euro
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 окт 2024
- Although the footwork is similar, the inverted eurostep is a completely different move from the original. Many of the top NBA guards use it, such as Russell Westbrook, James Harden and John Wall, just to name a few. It can truly be deadly with perfection. Check out a step-by-step tutorial above.

God I wished I had these videos growing up. Just tried some of the more advanced stuff at the gym, and as terrible and as out of shape as I am at basketball they still worked. People looked at me like I was a basketball savant, but in reality Charles Barkley would refer to me as "tuuurrible"
Keep up the great videos. They are phenomenal.

I always do this move when attacking I never knew it has a name 😂😂
Wtf i never knew it was a inverted euro. I always thought the eurostep could go left and right i didnt know there was a diffetence lmao
Normal euro you just go from side to side. Inverted euro you jab to one side then go side to side, effectively allowing you to take """3""" steps.
@M nigga what
@@mac2541 😂 well he not wrong soccer is the most biggest global and popular sport but he trippin typing all tha t lmfao
I ref several games at varying degrees of competitiveness and can attest that James Harden's Inverted Euro is NOT a travel. It's a perfectly legal move albeit extremely difficult to pull off and I call travels on people when they get it wrong. Whenever they argue with me about the call, I simply say that the timing of his jab step was not perfectly instantaneous with his dribble and therefore a travel. Stay with me as I explain:
James Harden @1:27
The thing I look for is if the ball handler takes a dribble AT THE SAME TIME he jab steps before his allotted two steps for the layup. For James, you'll notice that he power dribbles with his left hand while instantaneously (this is important) stepping with his right foot before he initiates his left and then right foot for the layup. If the left hand dribble is already on the way up BEFORE his initial right foot jab had lifted off the ground, then that would be a travel. This is one of the little technicalities regarding footwork that make you more dangerous if you remember them (kind of like why you hop when catch a pass in the post so you can choose your pivot foot before you attack). Exact same concept as when he does it in @1:50
Emmanuel Mudiay @1:55
Same concept as Harden. Look at the timing in which he dribbles the ball and takes that jab step with his right foot. The dribble happens instantaneously with the jab step, which therefore does not count as one of his allotted two steps. For all the folks saving Westbrook's move @2:05 is not a travel, it's really no different from Mudiays (except Russ chooses not to rotate his hip and leave his right leg trailing when he could have contorted it for a regular layup.
which leaves me to..
Russell Westbrook @0:19
Notice in the slow mo how the dribble is already on the way up BEFORE that left foot jab actually touches the floor. In THIS case, this counts as his first of two allotted steps. If he had taken another step with his left foot that would have been a tough-to-see but illegal move. That's why making sure the ball touches the hardwood the same time your jab matters so you can get those two legal steps for the separation and layup.
Great explanations, I agree with all of it, except with Mudiay @1:54 - 1:55 he takes 2 quick jab steps before going into his inverted layup move. That’s a travel.
Thanks for the info and thank you for taking time on this
You're full of crap. At the 1:50 mark Harden has both hands on the ball and his right foot on the floor he then proceeds to to take two more steps after that before laying it in which is a travel. So sick of everyone acting like players today have reinvented the rules of basketball. It's garbage.
John Naughton u missing the point its not about after he picks up his dribble it’s about how he picks up his dribble any step u take as u pick up ur Dribble is a gather step which is not part of the 2 motions that begin completely after you have 2 hands on the ball
@@manug7957 you're wrong, I watched it again frame by frame and he did a stutter step, dribble, gather, then 2 steps, perfectly legal
If you guys would just read the NBA rule book instead of getting your panties in a bunch about this travel bullshit. They changed the rule for almost a decade now. You are allowed a step when you are GATHERING the ball. Once the ball is gathered you can go into your 2 steps following the gather. They don't count the step when you are gathering the ball. Stop being stuck in the 90s and just deal with the fact that the game is evolving. It's just how it is now.
However, it is not allowed in basically every other league. And that's the point. If you do this anywhere else than in the NBA (and I don't think everybody watching this is an NBA player) you will get called for a travel.
Nicolas L but we're not talking about everywhere else. We're talking about the NBA. You can't say it's a travel based on every other league's rules. That's like saying MLB should throw underhand or use a bigger ball because other leagues do. That's rules and that's it. Euro Basketball league has some bullshit rules too, there league there rules.
Reemo Brooklyn What is the point of a "How to" then? It is supposed to break down the move so others can do it. Now if those others can't do it in a game, because it's a travel by their league's rules, the move is useless. So the point here is that this is a useless "How to", because of the move bring a travel in just about every other league.
Nicolas L so don't do the move then.
Reemo Brooklyn That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that it does matter, that this move is a travel outside the NBA.
All the people saying travel need to understand the concept of a live dribble.
I LOVE using this move:) I remember my coach just playin around imitating moves and he did this move, I was like to myself "maybe I should try this out". Game improved a lot ever since
"None of those are travels" ahah made my day.
Ndakey DAKITO Westbrooks really wasn't but Hardens was
I love the fact that the most explosive player in these clips is the only one that doesn't travel, give russ some credits folks
Love your taste in music. Lockjaw in the background btw
I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this should be called as travelling.
Thanks for the video anyway.

Travelling. What's so great about travelling.
I've been a fan of you guys ever since the process series u guys had put out I love that u are actually getting recognized for ur hardwork
Harden more often than not escapes some traveling calls because of his way of Euro step. If you look more closely he sometimes dribbles then takes the jab step before he adds two extra steps for his Euro/inverted Euro step. Westbrook does it more cleanly with his strong first step then adds his dribble before changing directions executing Euro step. Either way it's a great escape move.
What those saying its a travel dont understand is the first step is with a DRIBBLE......if you know basketball rules, 2 steps are allowed after a dribble. its 3 steps yes, but step number 1 is along with the dribble. The move is amazing for drawing fouls as well because of the shiftyness involved doing it correctly.
Great Video as usual 😎🔥 been doing this move a lot lately after watching Westbrook💯
You can't travel while dribbling. Until you pick up the ball, your steps DO NOT COUNT. Once you pick up the ball from dribbling you get two steps. That's why none of these are travels.
Jonathan Jackson what about 1:49
Jonathan Jackson So if I dribble the ball and do 5 quick small steps (for no reason) and pick the ball up after, is it safe?
Sylvester u gotta dribble on the last quick step and not carry the ball before u pick up your dribble
D.B Jr. The steps do not count before I pick up the ball according to the comment I'm replying to, so is 5 quick small steps legal before picking up the ball?
Sylvester like I said bro idk what u think that person meant they didn’t mean u can take steps without dribbling that’s picking up dribble they mean the last step u take while picking up dribble doesn’t count as a full step after u pick it up
YES! Ive been trying to get this down thank you!!!
As a Milwaukee Bucks fan it is hard to admit that this and all euro step combinations are and will always be travelling.
In a months time im betting you'll hit 100k subs! Keep up the awesome work!
Can't wait to do this randomly to the strangers whenever Im about to bump to somebody

Hey I appreciate your help with this videos, I know it takes a lot of time especially if its just 1 person working to make it work. And I notice you done videos on some big time players and their mindsets. Had you ever thought about Jason Williams he was and is slept on I participated in a exposure camp he played in this past July and his game is unique.
WHAT A GREAT VIDEO FROM A WELL ORGANIZED CHANNEL!
a player breakdown of joakim noah would be great but this is also fantastic
He does have a very unique game but I think there are more dominant centers that deserve one first.
just breaking down his iq with positioning would be great to take notes on.
GREATEST CHANNEL EVER
Harden be low key traveling like shit. Russell jont look smooth
Underrated move .
I had been doing the reverse euro and harden step back for years i stopped playing ball cause i was told i had a street reputuar that didnt work in standard basketball.... remember i grew up in an era where streetball and1 and other fancy stylings were new and amazing so i dedicated my time perfecting street moves for standard play..and looks like i wasnt the only 1
I love this channel! Quality content!
Love this channel man. It's helping me a lot
Definitely gotta add this to the bag
yeah I've noticed this move being used a lot now esp by westbrook. Great separation
Great explanation and tutorials, however, I feel like a lot of high school refs where I'm from are quick to call a travel on that one, some of the time Westbrook does it without the extra step and it looks great, but when they take that third step HS refs be quick to blow.
00:18 it's more like a cross jab than a euro step
00:40 the set up- fake with eyes, attacking straight ahead into the lane of the retreating the defender
00:58 footwork - similar to the cross jab except without the crossover just a same hand pound and jab then you still have two steps to finish at the rim
1:42 selling it - pound the ball at the same time as the jab step, shifting your body along with mid section to create a lane
1:47 watch how hard makes the move in traffic. Right after the pound, he picks the ball up with two hands and makes his 1-2 step to layup (practice this, improves ball protection, score in traffic)
1:54 practice making the move and finishing with two feet
2:05 - 2 foot finish by Westbrook, he takes off from outside the circle
that dribble on the hit is so important
Tremendous breakdown 👍🏾
Thank you for sharing!!
loving these vids
I also think it would be awesome if you made a video on all the times and situations where the defense doesnt expect you to change speeds or direction
great great channel, lovin it.
cool thanks! i like all your hard work . if you do make a lebron detailed video its much appreciated and will be recognized by all the followers you have! ill continue to bring people to your channel. just Don't forget about the champion of 2016 which should be the next video because its relevant now. that would get you so many views and likes . timing is everything for your channel to skyrocket.
Not a single travel. you can pound the ball down on a step, gather it while going into your next AND still take another step. That's allowed in the NBA. Now sure, most of the world wouldn't much benefit from knowing this since it's basically not allowed anywhere else but in accordance to the league they're playing in, no one travelled in this video.
I play in Ireland and its 100% allowed with the new Zero step rule implemented this year
thank you for this video‼️
NICE MAN!!! been so long trying to find a move for fastbreak situations in pickup cos they can always foul you if you go straight at them.
last clip was funny tho, defender excpecting WB to take off at the free throw line? haha
This kind of move always lead up to an arguments and fighting on pick up games 😂😂😂
Besides Westbrook, these dudes traveling their asses off
How is it a travel if your allow two steps after a dribble. The key to not traveling it bouncing the ball at the same time as you plant or "jab" you foot. If this isn't true than your average pro hop would be a travel
2.5 steps, not a travel.
exactly
someone needs to learn how to count again because i didnt see no 2 and a half fuckin steps
Its not a travel fam.. Like pyscho said if you dribble at the same time as your step, that means you still have 2 steps available to use. Watch it again and count after he puts the ball down. You're allowed a slight delay on the timing of the dribble with the step.
You should do Tony Parker or John Stockton...you deserve way more subscribers.
Once you dominate this move m8te...😤
Wow, I thought the inverted eurostop was basically just a off the wrong foot eurostep (which is what RB does a lot in this vid). Interesting vid.
who's rb?
Mean RW, haha. Russell Westbrook.
called the 'side step' back in the days
One important crucial as seen in all of Harden's clips is the stutter steps taken before the actual move
Much easier with some good traveling :D
The inverted euro is actually just inverting which foot you use. This video is just a regular euro. Ty Lawson does a inverted euro. Check him out
Basically do an in-out move followed by an eurostep
Harden be traveling
That's gather step..
Idgaf what name they put on it the shit is traveling
+Kameron Owens u must watch nba or basketball okie? so i can learn from it.
gather step lmao yea okay.
Ethan Velazco you have to admit 1:49 was definitely a travel

te agradeciria mucho si pusieras subtitulos . por que estos videos son oro puro para mejorar en el baloncesto , gracias ...
easy tip to do this. you need to pound the dribble hard INTO your opponent. not to the left or right, but into him, make it as if you are going to run over him. then immediately take a step to the left or right and do the lay up. the hard pound dribble will freeze the defender right there and u will win a step
thank you
a player breakdown of Russell Westbrook
same gets team mates more involved and thats not a shot a westbrook
Dope video
got yourself a new sub :)
seems like the right time to do a spin move while using this move
These are travels. I understand some might say "gather" step but when you pick up the ball and take three steps that is still a travel.
In the NBA, these moves are okay, since you're allowed to have a "gather step", followed by two steps. Harden is an expert in using this move. In other leagues, like in Europe or international play, this "gather step" is not mentioned in the rulebook, making it illegal. In this video, Westbrook uses a correct eurostep according to FIBA and NCAA rules. The eurosteps by Harden is okay in the NBA, but illegal in FIBA and NCAA.
nice video! !!
I need that beat what's the name also I just wanna say great channel keep up the good work always looking forward to the next video
can you do a by any means with Tracy Mcgrady?
nice game
tell me Harden doesn't walk every timeee....
1. Only one doing the move is Westbrook
2. The what everybody else is doing is a basic layup with just the sell of going the other way 1st
All the euro is is doing the footwork for a left hand layup on the right side or vice Versa while doing your 1 2 in a side step in reality it was manu’s way of getting to his left no matter which way he drove
Wow, very insightful..my only question is on that pound dribble am i jabbing to the side or towards the defender (straight)?
Do a breakdown down on court vision
In Philippines threy called travelling . sad
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I started tripping when I heard the introduction song bc I paused that on my Spotify and I was like I didn't hit play
they consider an extra step in the nba, this is why they don't call it a travel. But most likely for FIBA and the olympic basketball, all of these would be called travelling. Go watch some manu ginobili highlights and notice that he has a diffrent euro step since he only takes two steps after a dribble. i just noticed in the video that westbrook's the only one who didn't travel
Those are travels more than 2 steps while handling the ball is considered as travelling.
Nice vids
Attention to Detail: Driving to the Basket. Your videos are entertaining and informative. Keep doing your thing.
Literally EVERYONE travelled except Westbrook...
Do a breakdown down on d angelo Russell
Everyone traveled but Russell smh
the move is just a jab step on your last dribble. than 2 steps following that. it could been explained alot easier.
james harden euro is different because he crosses into the Euro, which looks like a travel but it isnt.
Lol. Westbrook's inverted euro is all I want to master.
This is a Euro step period.
attention to detail : Demar Derozan
Manu ginobili been doing this from time.
Yeah, it's more just a layup with in-n-out as the last dribble
A lot of these look like travels. They may not be but doing them in pickup games will get u called for it
prolly cause ur doing it wrong. its 100% not a travel and i do it all the time in pickup and different leagues
i didnt know this was a move . I do it all the time on fast breaks
agree my body mechanics do this automatically. is kinda cool.
A breakdown of the dribbling head fake? plz
Attention to detail Charles Barkley
„None of these are travels“
In NBA not, in Europe hell yes.
yeah harden definitely took 3 steps at 1:49
It's not as clear as you make it seem. It looks like it wasn't a travel
Not a travel.
Let's go backwards;
Layup
2 (second step) RIGHT [foot on the No Charge circle]
1 (first step) LEFT T [foot inside the Near Half of Free Throw circle]
0 (gathers and his foot comes down) RIGHT [foot inside the Far Half of Free Throw circle] ~ at 1:48
You get a gather step AND two steps.
FIBA Rules are not like this though :)
Professor live made a tutorial like that and he called it professor 123
