Heard he retired, so sad honestly he could became one of the best. You could see during the Chilla battle he wasn't as motivated as he was when he called him out, heard he has real life health issues and other things going on. Hope to see he return one day but he seems done for now. #ThankYouGjonaj #Early
And the whole "Oh, Chilla beat him cause he did a mario scheme" nonsense. I'd rather have a small catalog of classics rather than battle 20 years and have a couple of moments. I wouldn't be opposed to buying an album of his if he put his mind to that. His material was better suited for that medium and he could run on a beat easily.
Mr. Wright Chilla was dope in that battle, to be fair. Gjonaj was slept on in it, as he is in most of his battles, but that one wasn’t his strongest and Chilla came hard, it wasn’t just the Mario scheme.

It's strange 'cause earlier in his career people hyped him so much because they legit made noise like every other bar. But once he went to KOTD the crowds were a lot more silent.

I love how Gjonaj, Nu Jersey Twork, and Craig Lamar all use the same approach when opening their rounds. They start off talking in their regular voice and about 3 bars in, their voices change and they just immediately start spazzing out
Gjonaj’s pen underrated af. One of the best. But he doesn’t trust anybody else to understand his bars so he overexplains, highlights, repeats himself, spells everything out - it makes his rhythm so clumsy at times and can ruin his delivery. Such a shame for somebody so genuinely creative and intelligent.

To be fair, Diz tore him apart because he wasn't emotionally prepared for that battle like he thought he was. He practically defeated himself by letting Diz shake his confidence so bad that he Jersey'd his second round.

@@thediaz07 He got shook up by Diz's rounds because he *thought* he was going to be able to just come in and do what he normally does and realized too late that nothing about his usual approach was going to work. He let Diz get under his skin (Diz being the guy who can't scare 75% of battle rap and usually ends up with people getting under *his* skin instead), and because of that, he killed himself just as much as Diz killed him.
He failed because he got shook. That's obvious. But he got shook because he underestimated his opponent and didn't prepare himself for what he was really up against.
