The first frog to think "I'm going to be friends with this gigantic spider over here" must have been some combination of brave and crazy
Honestly it was probably the other way around. A tarantula was being harassed, when a frog came along and helped it. Then it decided "Huh, maybe I won't kill this thing", and it went from there.

Dude, you're forgetting that humans are obsessed with the neotonus stats, or "cuteness", which means that some animals, such as seals or cats, can use it to protect themselves against other players through the protection of the human class.
Right now it's the main stradegy of the likes of Axolots
They even have gone as far as to make a live in the Pet Meta to save there player base from Colabsing
I mean that strat normally ends horribly for the animal they get inbred or humans kill them any way

It currently keeps the Axolotle and Crested Gecko playerbase alive.

Mosquitoes and malaria
Only really effective in the Africa server. And even then that's because they dont have the economics skill to maintain the medical needs of the server. But otherwise sure.
Even on the Africa server it's not a sure thing since so many of the players there take the Sickle Cell trait which while causing issues in the late game also provides immunity to the Malaria parasite.
The malaria combo might not be a sure thing, but its still the most solid matchup against humans by far. You've got to keep this in perspective. Humans are the most OP build in the game, and the malaria combo has taken out more human mains than any other build or strategy so far.
not really; humans aren't even close to perfecting the build, so they will just make healing items to stop malaria and some human mains will rebirth so that they can attack mosquitoes.
Actually, malaria is a parasite to mosquitoes as to humans. The mosquitoes that carry malaria can not reproduce.

There are many kind of Eagles out there that can be tame and Khitans hunting with eagles more than 1000 years ago (around ~900 AD) and some still use them until this day.

When your just down by the sea and a eel bites your knee that's a moray.
Also missed an added, wider-scale benefit of the frog/tarantula teamup: the frog eats ants and other insects that would otherwise eat the tarantula's eggs. The frog protects the tarantula's offspring, allowing for (considering the quantity of new players that spawn from a single tarantula egg sac) rapid expansion of its faction. And the tarantula protects the otherwise vulnerable frog so it can live on to lay its own mass of eggs and expand its faction too. It's a win/win on several levels

Oxpeckers damage the animals they sit on quite a lot. This negates their helpfulness, meaning they're just parasites.
I mean you’re right butParasites themselves are kinda just griefer classes and the less of them that exist the better.
@@mrWade101 but this damage is only short term and can be recovered from. That is nothing compared to the massive damage that parasites deal over time. So when you can get rid of parasites asap by letting the oxpeckers take them, the damage you get by that is worth it I think.

The oxpecker also drinks blood from open wounds of their “mutualistic” counterpart. This harms their teammate and it is debated whether this is symbiotic or parasitic
Ben Longworth probably both. The parasite removal is super useful, and as long as damage isn’t built up overtime, The pros will out weigh cons. However, on animals with low hp or a lot of wounds, the damage can be detrimental.
The HP loss from pecking is by far outweighted by the benefits of removing insect debuffs, especially in tankier builds.

Studies have shown that how many parasites large mammals tended to have was about the same with or without the oxpeckers, which is why it's debated. They don't actually seem to be doing much in the way of getting rid of parasites.

Regular Weeb human ability to sweat is one of the most broken combined with its int
And you can't. Without tools, you are physically weak, as opposed to other apex builds like bears, and you are not particularly fast, either, just have a high stamina, but a dog can still catch up to you to bite your ass. Human intelligence is also debatable in its usefulness, because it leads to more conflict among the species itself.

The tarantula and frog combo legitimately surprised me. I never thought about that strat on my first amphibian play through.
As a tarantula main (well, spiders in general. Right now I'm perfecting my jumping spider) I am salty as fuck that all the frogs were too intimidated by me to team up. But to be fair I guess I did kinda spec into that...
@@pentagonofpeople Tarantulas have a really bad reputation as griefers, or at the very least as unpredictable. Knowing this strategy, as a frog I would still avoid any tarantula player. Maybe if you specced a bit more into the social tree to unlock basic communication you could signal your intends better. Currently, tarrantula builds are completely still most of the time until they explode forwards in a ball of flying furry legs and fangs. You cannot really communicate "lets team up" that way.
I mean, most spiders sub-class have that huge problem where leveling their mobility and strength give them permanent malus in attractiveness. Most abilities of the social tree are even entirely blocked for them, that's why I never played spider.

I tried that combo once, don't go near human players with that, they'll just use flamethrowers or other tools to squash you with one hit. Despite the arachnophobia debuff. They'd much rather kill you than see you leave. In more extreme cases, they'll ask for help by fellow human players that have high arachnophobia resist, these players usually equip gear specifically designed to hunt spiders.

It sounds good on paper but it's hard to pull off and both classes get griefed constantly and easily by avian players.

From what I've seen so far, it doesn't look like the glitches or the lack of new life has gotten any better. At least there'll be some new really cool looking mountain servers though.

Talking about ants i wonder how their tier list would turn out. I m assuming things like leafcutters, army ants, fire ants and argentines would be near the top. On the contrary i believe bigger but less social(so lower on the "superorganism scale '' ) ants like jumping ants, trapjaws or bullet ants would be lower because even tho their stats are high, large ants can get overwelmed by a lot of smaller ones. A confusing one would be the winter ant since it has been seen repelling argentines but is other than that not the greatest build.
Another nice thing would be a guide on how to optimise a eusocial insect build
The way the tier list might go would be like this (from what I can tell atleast)
S- Agricultural ants that can self sustain even in times of famine and termites that can have back up queens in case their 1st one dies
A- IDK tbh
B- Hunter and/or gatherer insects like bees and specific ants (though they are server dependent)
C- IDK also
D- Large ants that are susceptible to both larger and smaller predators
F- Anything with out a clear eusocial build
Ants are also the only other species to wage organized wars with other groups.

Too many people see spiders as eight-legged horrors. These frogs see these ones as friendly guardians who almost unconditionally protect them from predators and in return save their eggs.

Their weakness is not tape tho. You cant simply walk up to a gator and tape it up. Its the mounted grab that gets them.

Never knew about the tarantula/frog combo, but you didn't mention a very cool team combo of the Dikkop bird that protects crocodile's eggs from predators when it's out and about using the intimidation debuff, who in turn protects the nest of the bird from larger predators.
