  • One of Scotland's great single-track road trips: Lochinver, Clachtoll, Clashnessie, Nedd, Kylesku. The 25 mile B869 is a truly amazing drive along single-track roads, with steep hills unexpected switchbacks, wide vistas and unexpected viewpoints. It passes through a magnificent landscape of uncompromising rocks, chaotic crofts, green pastures and sandy beaches.
This road trip finishes at the Kylesku Bridge, which replaced the Kylesku Ferry in1984. It must be one of the most beautiful bridges in Scotland. It was designed by Ove Arup, who later designed "The Bridge" linking Sweden and Denmark.
The route from Lochinver to Kylesku along Loch Assynt is 18 miles and takes about 30 minutes. The route via the B869 takes anywhere between 1¹/₂ to 2¹/₂ hours depending on the season, but then you will also want to stop and take in the breathtaking scenery. Whilst the single track route offers so much to tourists, it must be a source of frustration to local people. Fortunately the road is closed to caravans.
