A-100 brings back idiosyncratic memories of my childhood. It was my very first watch. I saw one in a mailing catalog and asked my dad to order it with my own money. To the eyes of a 12 y.o. me it looked super cool and futuristic but it got destroyed during a soccer game soon after I'd got it. I also got my first kiss and then got punched in a nose on a same day! Ah memories! I lived fast then, much slower now...

    • @Grumpy_Cyborg

Similar here. I got a 52QS from my parents on holyday to the UK in 1979 at 14 y.o. Tbh. I wanted one of the Seiko digitals the most, but I loved the Casio dearly when I got it. It eventually scratched up more and more, and some of the buttons finally got stuck, so it "vanished" like all of my digitals I had in my younger years. I will get the A1100D-1 in a few days :)

The green display is great with the yellow backlight. That said, I do wish it was a slightly better movement with 24H function and a true stopwatch.
Basically your basic Illuminator movement in this format. Rather than re-issuing old watches, Casio could make a killing by offering retro designs with the better movements from the era. I mean, this was great when it came out, but everyone bought the next gen when they came out because they were just that much better. Then later we did it again when 50m water resistance was an option. That is, originally these were where the technology of the time was at.
And, yes, he's not kidding - We all had these "Water Resist" models. Good for basic water splashes or rain getting your clothes wet only. Absolutely ZERO resistance to pressure. A shower or even a bathtub, let alone a swimming pool - water inside it in no time. The "50m" were good for your typical swimming pool or to shower with. An actual 5m waterproof. Lol. So all the kids were.. "get 50m at least". This was years before the G-Shock came out, mind you. Tech was always evolving and new features were out every year. So.. a $5 first gen movement, as honest to the original as it is, is not really what anyone wanted at the time. Or now. Sorry if it's a bit long, but this comes SO close,. Casio with these re-releases needs to jump solidly on the "resto-mod" bandwagon, like we see with classic cars.

    • @Ratgibbon
      @Ratgibbon Год назад

Casios are renowned for being more water resistant than what they claim on the tin. For example here is an F91W at a mind boggling 60m depth. 🤯 m.ruclips.net/video/0xCpuxgw154/видео.html

Right now this is the best watch in the Casio Vintage Collection. With that stainless steel case this watch could virtually last forever. Yes, the module is pretty basic, but it´s efficient and simple to operate. It´s definitely a keeper and a step in the right direction for Casio. We want less resin and more steel.....digital watches made to last!!

I bought this one off the Casio USA website about 6 weeks ago after I got a "back in stock" email. I like the design and the build quality. I don't think anyone would have complained if they had upgraded the movement a little bit with a 24-hour display and a stopwatch that can handle up to 24 hours. Still a nice watch.
An LF-20W or other small world timer in steel would be great. The SKXMOD cases for the AE1200 are OK, but they're heavy, I'd rather have something like a A500 model in steel.

I had to rewatch this one after watching your Casiotron review. You’ve gotta hand it to Casio - they continued to produce digital watches in high volume. In addition they not only paved new territory for digital watches with G-Shock but they never forgot their early watches. The way they celebrate their models really puts Rolex to shame.

I've had some crazy ideas for watch designs lately. The latest one is a digital watch with a crown--and no buttons. I know the Apple Watch has something like that, but this is different. It would be a basic digital watch with the feature set of an F-91W or a classic G-Shock. You push the crown once to change modes, hold it briefly to get into adjust mode, and turn it backward and forward to do the adjusting. In stopwatch mode, you would turn the crown one click forward to start (since it's electric, it would have to have clicks like a bezel), one click backward to stop, hold it down for about 1 second to reset. A watch like that could also include an alarm and a countdown timer.

That's an awesome looking watch, I have my eye on that black and green one. Imagine if someone makes a titanium mod for this lil beauty. Did I miss the price?

I’m with you on the water resistance issue. It always bugs me when the WR of a watch is puny! I don’t know anything about the process of waterproofing a watch, but it sure seems like it could be better in a lot of cases. Ex: Field watches with only 50m WR! Okay, end of rant. 🙄

I hope WR will enough for daily use

@@Memmaao Having lived through this era of watches as a kid, here is what the numbers mean:
WR = occasional splash, long sleeve shirt a bit wet from rain. Absolutely zero pressure resistance. Rubber gaskets on buttons only. Heavy rain, running water, or doing the dishes - dead in no time.
50m = Can take a shower with it, freshwater swimming pool to an actual 5-10m. NG for salt water, buttons can't be used under water.
100M = take it to the ocean or wherever. Not a dive watch, but should hold up to any water under normal use. Buttons can be used when wet as well - bonus :)
We ALL ditched this model for the new "Illuminator" ones when they came out. (though some got duped by "WR" versions vs 50m) 24H, 1/100 timer (with split time and countdown timer!) and 50M resist.. all with a great backlight... never looked back. That generation is what you want as a daily wearer, IMO. Check out the B640WB-1BVT, for example.

@@plektosgaming thx for the information! I'm still craving for this model. I contacted my local watchmaker, and he ordered me one, it will arrive in Friday.
