- how to make the best chess pie ever, one slice will not do ya, this pie is a old southern favorite, once to try you will be on it!

Ingredients:
1 deep dish pie crust
1 stick of unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 1/2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
2 tablespoon all purpose flour
1 tablespoon of yellow cornmeal
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/4 cup of whole or evaporated milk
bake @350 for 45-55 minutes
mix butter and sugar together, add eggs, mix, add corn meal, flour and salt mix, add vinegar or lemon juice, milk and vanilla, mix well, pour into pie shell and bake. Do not cut until completely cool, make take several hours, you want your custard to set up.

First, may I say that I love listening to you! Your voice is just so soothing, gentle and kind and you just have that gorgeous glow that only comes from the Holy Spirit. Now, on to the pie! I cannot thank you enough for this recipe; have been looking for a good recipe for many years now. Growing up, we ALWAYS went to Furr's Cafeteria after church on Sundays. The Chess Pie was my very favorite and was allowed to get a piece. I never tired of it and rarely chose a different desert. Then when I got into Jr. High School, my two best friends and I started working at Furr's. We got 1/2 off of our meals and I still LOVED the chess pie and got a piece almost every day. Oh my goodness...that's been about 50 years ago now. Can't wait to make this! God Bless you too!

I add a little cinnamon to mine!! Trust me, it’s a game changer. I also use 6 medium eggs instead of the large and beat them in 1 at a time!! This recipe has been in my family for years and it’s always a hit!! Thanks for sharing

@@BeverlyBlack Thank you Mrs Beverly for responding. Can't wait to try your pie soon. We use to eat these all the time especially in the spring for Easter and in the summer. My mother would make them or she would buy it at this really great bakery. They would always have a maraschino cherry baked in the center. The bakery's owners have long since passed away and my mother passed in October. This is one of her recipes I didn't learn how to make. Furrs Cafeteria made a lemon chess pie that I would love to recreate. This looks really close, could you make this a lemon chess pie by using the lemon juice and adding lemon zest? Would you also omit the vanilla? Love your recipes, thanks for sharing!

You can use any brand, this is a very good pie.

I have never done it, the eagle brand is richer.
@@BeverlyBlack what about not using cornmeal? I have butter, eggs, eagle brand milk, vinegar, lemon juice, vanilla flavoring and a pie shell 😄 just no cornmeal or regular milk 😄👍🏽
Love your channel have one question about the chess pie followed the recipe but half was running other half was formed what should I do
First make sure you added the flour and corn meal, make sure it bakes well because all ovens are different, my ovens bales slower, and it takes a while for the custard to form sometimes, you really need to let it cool completely before cutting, if you try again please let me know how it turns out.

@@shannacrumby6566 If it as dark as you want put a piece of foil over it and bake for 10 minutes but if you want a little draker leave off, put let cool all the way before cutting, I hope this helps.

What does the vinegar or lemon juice does to it
I can't really taste them, but it makes a change in the pie taste to me, that helps that buttery taste.
I've never heard of chess pie . This was very interesting to watch
It is a old southern recipe, most of the time they had those ingredients and mothers made their crust so this was a quick dessert, cheap and good!

I have no tried it and it may rise more.
