Not a joke. Once schooling starts (as early as 3), the pressure is immense, the tutors, hagwons (learning institutes) incredibly expensive and the joy leaves these poor kids. Look up the suicide rates among Korean teens.
RUclips algorithm brought me to your channel somehow - your family is adorable! As a Korean immigrant living in Chicago, I love it when non-Koreans visit Korea and they realize how awesome it is to visit Korea. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip there, and as always, stay safe!
Thanks for saying hello! I think we have a quite a few Korean Americans watching our videos and it's really fun to hear from them (and everyone!). We've even been recognized a few times here this trip and it's often been the Korean Americans that come up and say hello. :) Korea is SO underrated. I'm happy to see it becoming so popular as a tourist destination.
@10:04 Congratulations to ONE YEAR of traveling, dear Steph, Pete and Hays!!! 😘Cheers (or as we say "geon-bae" 건배 in Korean) to another great year ahead!! This may have been your best vlog yet (some amazing shots of Hays and Pete). Your flexibility and ability to stay calm and positive even in the face of an impending typhoon is (was) truly inspirational. PS: not sure if intentional, but @2:58 Pete's pink shirt seamlessly blends into the background of the watermelon playground, haha!
Bethany! You're too kind! Thanks for always supporting us! I don't know if we'll last another year, but that'd be amazing, wouldn't it?! We changed the goal posts from one year to the entirety of Hays's second year (his birthday is October 12)...and then after that, who knows? All of 2022? Hmm... I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! When I'm editing them, sometimes I can't tell if it's entertaining. To be honest, I thought maybe this one would be a bit boring and that the expectation would be for us to see way more of the island. But...it feels like Korea is a place we'll come back to often, so best to travel at our own pace! :)
Your videos are always entertaining though, and it’s always a delight to see you Steph, Pete and Hays just being your genuine selves on camera, even the “boring” moments are great because they are so real and wholesome. I also find it extra wonderful when you’re a bit savage with your reviews of places as well, haha! Also, I think you guys are very wise to pace yourselves (and I’m sure Korea will always welcome you guys whenever you decide to come back). I do sincerely hope that your travels will be able to extend to the end of 2022 (or however long you wish to continue), but even if it doesn’t, please know that you have already left a wonderful legacy and have given a wonderful gift of vicarious travels to so many viewers like myself, esp for those who are unable to embark on these extended journeys around the world! But I have a feeling we will continue to see you flourish 🎉 🎉🎉
I've heard Jeju is beautiful island , but what I saw thru your vlog , its beyond what i imagined. Love to see u all enjoying !!! Hope someday & wish it can , to see a collaboration of yours , 8 miles from home & Raising Voyagers in one place of 1-3 vlogs . 🤗😍😎
Aw, I'm so happy we could show you a bit! And wow--- that would be a fun week with those families! We've been following Raising Voyagers for ages, and recently found 8 Miles from Home (thanks to many folks commenting.) We'd love to travel with friends with kids for Hays to have children to play with!
A daikon and a Korean moo are quite different. The Korean one is thicker and crunchier so it is good for kimchi and braised fish/meat, while a daikon is softer and used for pickles(dan-moo-ji). I've tried some daikon to make kimchi when I couldn't find Korean radish and yep...it failed. :)
As usual, another fantastic and enjoyable video, Steph, Pete and Hays!! I'm going go on a limb and say Korea has to be one of the best countries out there when it comes to catering to kid's fun activities and I'm sure parents are even happier to know such places exists. Thanks again for sharing such wonderful video with us guys!!!
Totally one of the best! Even when things aren't specifically for kids here, Hays finds them interesting (we love all the public spaces in Seoul.) We really love it here and it feels like we each enjoy it equally! Thanks for watching and for commenting!!
Jejudo is home to many beautiful natural sights! There are actually quite a lot of things you didn't do, there's a huge temple with a MASSIVE gold statue of Buddha, a very steep mountain that has the highest viewpoint of the whole island, naturally curated crevices of the land by water sights, beautiful waterfalls, and many more! Would definitely recommend coming back to do a more nature-tour of the island.
I heard you guys are leaving Korea in October. The fall in Korea is beautiful. I hope you could visit 내장산 (nae-jang mountain) before departure. Colors of the leaves are spectacular!!
I didn't realize that until I was putting it into Google Translate to pull the Korean for the video title. :) Thanks for sharing that info and for following along!
I am really looking forward to see your next episode. I am always planning to travel with my parents when I visit Korea but still that hasn't happened yet. Seeing Hays's happy smile makes me happy. Thanks Steph and Pete and hope you have a lovely time with your parents too. It's gonna be a big surprise to Hays and can't wait to see his reaction 😊
17:25 lol!!!! I get it. Seoul has a lot more energy and definitely more to see. Just turn a corner. Personally, I love the rural parts and imagining how they must have lived hundred of years ago. I'm getting old! Since we're being honest, I'm not a big fan of the Korean hot dogs, and it might be just me. I know a lot of people love it, even here in Los Angeles. But I wouldn't set the bar too high. It's just aiite in my opinion. I'd rather go for pizza haahahahaha. All in all looks like you got to check out some cool spots. And I love me a nice Marriott stay. I love their hotels overseas. Happy 1 year traveling anniversary guys!!!
That's true-- it's fun to see how people live in the little villages, even now. Wandering around near the restaurant we ate at our first evening was one of my favorite parts (with the old lady on the tricycle thing.) Bummer about the hot dogs, but noted! Hays will love it no matter what though, I'm sure. Personally, give me a Costco hotdog with mustard and I'm happy.

Oh wow... Can't believe there are a lot of things you can do in Jeju. It is the only part of South Korea we can visit without visa as Filipinos so this is quite an informative vlog. Thanks for sharing!
I'm so thrilled to see your parents in the next episodes! As you've mentioned there about how you experience Jeju, I think you are right, Jeju is not developed clustered and actually, that's what I really like about Jeju discovering places here and there as a Seouler. Sadly what you missed is definitely a car and Oream / Hallasan mountain. For another day in the future:)
We missed, SO much, I'm sure! I can see why people return to Jeju over and over...it feels like you could have a difference experience each time. Thanks for watching!
Another great video c: The more i see the cool things you get to do with a go pro, the more I feel like I need to buy one somewhen. One day. just not yet.
@@StephandPete yes that's true. But we don't use it for the audio haha. Honestly, your regular video audio is actually fantastic, I was very surprised when I saw you pull out your little camera 🤣 do you not use any audio post production editing what so ever? Because your audio comes out so well on your main camera!
@@KairuinKorea yeah! Just the camera. We were actually just talking at dinner about perhaps getting a mic but I’m reluctant because I don’t want anything that makes it less likely that I’ll whip out my camera and capture something since our style is pretty in the moment and authentic. But I’m curious if it could be even better! O
@@StephandPete honestly I'd stay as you are! Your quality is very good. It's a phenomenal built in mic. And even better, your audio levels are consistent! You've seen my big microphone, and sure it can give better audio in ideal conditions, but not always. And it's one directional, not Omni directional. It's big and cumbersome and I'm still trying to figure how to get the best settings. Deffo just stay as you are. Your little Rig is so convenient and I think it's definitely better for your style with hays being around too!
My favourite scene was when you were justifying the beers saying it was almost noon whilst sat in front of a clock saying 11.25 😂 Seriously though, I love your South Korea videos as we are due to visit in April next year so they are super helpful ❤
Very glad you had fun in Jeju! One of my dearest friends is from there but I haven't been there yet. However, I am hoping to get there next summer when my family is in Korea! Also, I'm still dying to see y'all go to Suwon!
P.S.- I was pleasantly surprised to see Hays eating the salmon and mackerel! He is a good boy and y'all are doing great raising him to be open to trying new things!
We're headed back to Seoul soon and going to base ourselves there and hopefully do some day trips like Suwon and Paju Book city. So stay tuned! We're in Korea until October 14. Then off to Japan!
I'm enjoying the video. I'm curious about the next video. I recommend Geoje Island, Tongyeong, or Namhae for the next course is recommended. Or Gangneung or Sokcho. And, it is autumn in Korea. The autumn leaves on the mountain are very pretty soon~~ I hope you can enjoy the autumn leaves of Korea that you can't see anywhere.
@@StephandPete I'm even happier because I'm on a happy trip. I hope you eat a lot of delicious food and have a fun and happy trip next time. I'll be waiting for the video again.
At that last restaurant, you’ve mentioned that wet cabbage, it is steamed cabbage, and Pete was holding “mock jawng” that goes along with that cabbage. slap a little spoon full of rice and wrap a mouthful. The red one he mentioned is “ssam jang” Pete also asked about that veggie in yalls fish stew, it’s “Korean Radish”
Yes, you're doing it right. You use the boiled cabbage leaves as ssam with ssamjang. It's great by itself (boiled cabbage, ssamjang, and rice) if you have nothing else.
I think Korea is a good place for children to live.!!
We've found it VERY child friendly!
Not a joke. Once schooling starts (as early as 3), the pressure is immense, the tutors, hagwons (learning institutes) incredibly expensive and the joy leaves these poor kids. Look up the suicide rates among Korean teens.

The braised vegetable is a daikon radish. “Moo” in Korean. Enjoy!
Thank you! When I googled the name for the video I realized it was that!
"Moo or Mu" is radish.
The Korean version of Japanese Daikon is more "dan-mu-ji," a sweetened pickled radish.

Did you guys have to take pcr tests before your flight to jeju or after you landed? Do they check Qcodes at the jeju airport? Thanks! 😊
We flew from Seoul, so no. But I don’t know what the requirements are from entering from abroad. I assume you need a PCR and QCode but I’m not sure.
@@StephandPete ooh! I’ll be flying from Seoul as well :) one less thing to worry about! Thanks so much!!
Visit 스아게 curry restaurant in hongdae! I love that place
Ohhh, curry is Pete's favorite! We'll have to check it out!

AH. Makes sense.
My favourite scene was when you were justifying the beers saying it was almost noon whilst sat in front of a clock saying 11.25 😂 Seriously though, I love your South Korea videos as we are due to visit in April next year so they are super helpful ❤
11:25 *is* almost noon! 😆😆😆 Thank you for watching! I’m glad you find them helpful and I hope you have an amazing trip!
제발 협재 해수욕장을 가줬으면 ㅠㅠ
정말 예쁜 바다랑 오름에 올라가면 참 좋은데
산방 산.. 아름다운곳만 빼고 가셨네요

He's really picky in a lot of ways, but has always loved fish!
@@StephandPete I'm looking forward to watching while I recover from the surgery I'm going to be having in about a week
@@robertmarsh8334 oh no! sorry to hear that! hope everything goes smoothly. Will be thinking of you.
Try myungrang hotdog 명랑핫도그
Try it in Busan or in Seoul 👍
I'm enjoying the video. I'm curious about the next video. I recommend Geoje Island, Tongyeong, or Namhae for the next course is recommended. Or Gangneung or Sokcho. And, it is autumn in Korea. The autumn leaves on the mountain are very pretty soon~~ I hope you can enjoy the autumn leaves of Korea that you can't see anywhere.
The next few vids are back in Seoul where we waited out the typhoon. Then we go to Gyeongju, Tongyeong, and Busan.
@@StephandPete I'm even happier because I'm on a happy trip. I hope you eat a lot of delicious food and have a fun and happy trip next time. I'll be waiting for the video again.
Daddy is happier than son......
He sure had fun, didn't he?
@@StephandPete Yes sir !!!!
Ssamjang쌈장 is mixed with gochujang고추장 and daenjang 된장and galic and some sesame oil
Ah! Thanks for explaining!
At that last restaurant, you’ve mentioned that wet cabbage, it is steamed cabbage, and Pete was holding “mock jawng” that goes along with that cabbage. slap a little spoon full of rice and wrap a mouthful. The red one he mentioned is “ssam jang”
Pete also asked about that veggie in yalls fish stew, it’s “Korean Radish”
Thanks for clarifying! We’re still learning! 😂
@@StephandPete and doin great!
사랑스러운 가족~~💕💕💕💕💕
Thank you!

Yes, you're doing it right. You use the boiled cabbage leaves as ssam with ssamjang. It's great by itself (boiled cabbage, ssamjang, and rice) if you have nothing else.
Brilliant! Meals here never get old. Always something new, or some new way to wrap it! I LOVE ssam.
제주 돌고래 보고오세요^^
I miss you to traveling to Malaysia again
Mackerels are good but try beltfish. There is spicy braised beltfish food alley in Seoul.
Ohh ok!! Will look that up!!
핼로우 Good night
