They say you can't go home again. That's B.S.. I haven't been to my hometown in years but whenever I do go there the memories just flood back. None of my family are there anymore and my childhood friends have scattered, but its still so nice to see, feel and smell the place.

I still live in my hometown and was perfectly willing to go to my high school reunion, except that I've been so painfully broke that I literally could not afford the $60 ticket to go. (They booked a brewery and had an open bar and a DJ etc). I was so bummed. Not that I really care too much these days about anyone I went to school with, but still. I wanted to go, you know? I'm glad you had a pretty good time. I would've liked more about the horses and maybe some stories behind that hobby. Maybe in the future? Or maybe even a main channel vid about it? But I respect you not filming your family or anything. It's fun to see people's lives, but at the same time, it feels invasive sometimes, knowing so much about someone you don't actually know. But anyway. I love your travel vids. They're always a pleasant surprise when they pop up on my dash. Cheers xx
I loved watching this, I spent 20 years living overseas (Hong Kong, NY, Philly, Amsterdam) and I feel like I left a bit of myself in each place that I lived, Even watching you in Central station, Philly and n NY was giving me flashbacks, plus I used to ride in NJ so that was so weird for me to watch. It’s so weird to think that when I first found Evan’s videos I was in year 11 ready to do my GCSE’s and it feels like it was yesterday, but it’s been just more than 4 years. Life moves so quickly as you get older.

I'm madly older than you, and have had that feeling repeatedly through my life. Born to a little English seaside town, joined the Army, travelled the world, lived in London, lived in the commuter belt, finally ended up back in a (different) little English seaside town. As I've gotten old(er) I've come to understand I 'belong' to all of those places, because they are (a part of) what made me who I am. I am connected to the people of those places, and always will be. The places and people are a kind of infrastructure that I am built upon. New Jersey, London (specifically Chiswick) and Liverpool (and I suspect other places) will always be places you 'belong'. So you're destined to have that feeling again. Were I back in Austin, TX, or Atlanta, GA, I'd sign off with "have a nice day now", but from a little old English seaside town, I am forced to just wish you well.

Later on I got two hermit crabs to use in science class (creating a self-enclosed biome for two weeks....not great for the animals we were required to use not sure if kids still do that) but they survived so then had two hermit crabs for like 3 years. That was fun.
My graduating class didn't think to ask what we'd be willing or able to pay for reunion tickets, and now they're going to have to cancel and lose deposit money. 10 years out of high school most of us are still scraping by on hourly wages and can't do over $100 per couple to go. Not to mention most of that goes toward an open bar, when a not insignificant amount of us either never drank, are recovering alcoholics, or are pregnant, or are on parole. We're a diverse group. But everyone's late 20s look different, and they didn't really account for our actual class's makeup.
If you're ever in Leeds, there is good Sicilian pizza at a place called Poco's. Not city centre, but close to Temple Donuts which is worth the (short) diversion alone.
about three days ago I walked out of my hotel room in toulouse around 4am to catch my flight, and just, left my suitcase in the room thankfully I realized a few minutes later but it was Very On Brand

On a school trip we were once so early to the airport that we were there before the check in opened (There was kinda a riot going in Rome at the time though) but it made it really chill as it was only us going through security

I dropped out of high school but went there for 3 years, always wondered if I should go back for a reunion (10 years was a couple years ago) but I have so many negative associations with my hometown and all the bullying in high school that I've been avoiding it for the better part of 14 years. Literally everyone I dated in high school has multiple kids now. Maybe I'll head back for the 20th reunion though. (My college is in my same town so I'll likely go to my 10th college reunion in a few years.)
My high school was torn down just a couple of months ago. It's been in use since 1887 (20 years after Canadian confederation). Currently an empty lot and we've never had a reunion.
I'm two years out from my 10 year high school reunion if my high school even does one and I honestly don't know how I feel about it or if I'd even want to go.
I only live about five miles from where I went to high school, and I've never set foot in the place since the day I graduated, nor have gone to a high school reunion. I certainly wouldn't fly overseas to go to one. No good memories. College was better.

I actually did a hometown tour kind of like that just recently too so I am right there with you and the emotions you expressed here. For me, it wasn't really my hometown (I don't feel like I really have one since I moved around a lot) but this was the town I was in for all of middle school and the start of high school. It was like 5.5 years since the last time I was there and it wasn't under the best of circumstances so I kind of felt like that town had been stolen from me in a way. The town itself wasn't bad to me but there were so many abusive people in my family and friend circle at the time that I couldn't go back there anymore. But because it wasn't a bad town, I missed my old mall and my old favorite pizza place and the Aloha Snow shaved ice. So I drove there with one of my best friends for emotional support last weekend. We just drove around for the day and didn't do much. I would just be like "i know there is something in this direction but I don't remember what so I'm gonna take this road and see where I end up". It was surreal but gave me a good sense of closure that I had really needed to help me through my shit that I'm still dealing with. I know this kind of comment wasn't really what you were expecting but I just wanted you to know that this video really resonated with me in a very good way so thank you
Yes Hermit Crabs. I’ve just returned to the UK after au pairing for 2 years in the states and one of my kids had 4 hermit crabs. She didn’t like the painted shells, apparently they aren’t good for the crabs but they do look good.

how did i feel about my 10 year high school reunion: didn't care didn't go, i was still friends with the people i cared about, and the whole class was only 22 people, i think less than 10 showed for the reunion. "you pay after you get off the train" sooo if you don't have the money when you get there do they make you go back?? It’s crazy to me that your graduating class was only 150. I will never go to my HS reunion because there was almost 900 of us, a good chunk being juniors graduating early. I had only been in that school for a year and a half so the chances of me knowing anyone in that sea of craziness is slim to none.

For me, it wasn't really my hometown (I don't feel like I really have one since I moved around a lot) but this was the town I was in for all of middle school and the start of high school. It was like 5.5 years since the last time I was there and it wasn't under the best of circumstances so I kind of felt like that town had been stolen from me in a way. The town itself wasn't bad to me but there were so many abusive people in my family and friend circle at the time that I couldn't go back there anymore. But because it wasn't a bad town, I missed my old mall and my old favorite pizza place and the Aloha Snow shaved ice. So I drove there with one of my best friends for emotional support last weekend. We just drove around for the day and didn't do much. I would just be like "i know there is something in this direction but I don't remember what so I'm gonna take this road and see where I end up". It was surreal but gave me a good sense of closure that I had really needed to help me through my shit that I'm still dealing with.
I know this kind of comment wasn't really what you were expecting but I just wanted you to know that this video really resonated with me in a very good way so thank you
Yes Hermit Crabs. I’ve just returned to the UK after au pairing for 2 years in the states and one of my kids had 4 hermit crabs. She didn’t like the painted shells, apparently they aren’t good for the crabs but they do look good.

As a fellow New Jersey-ian; Three Brothers Pizza and Kohrs ice cream (orange and creme!) is where it’s at! I love super close to seaside so it’s the great. Can’t wait to move out of the state though 😅

I completely forgot about the hermit crab thing! Every summer, my friends who went to the Jersey Shore used to come back with an assortment of hermit crabs that would inevitably die within the first few weeks of school.

The other day I was getting a flight home but I missed the first train to the airport, eventually when I made it through passport control I had 10mins till my gate closed... I've never been that late for a flight I almost had a heart attack

Going home is so weird. I have to move back home in a month (stupid expiring uk visa) and it’s been like 4 years since I’ve really been living there.
Seeing you go to Kohrs reminded me of the summer I went to Point Pleasant Beach. One time I told my then boyfriend I would sell his soul if it ment he could ship me some Kohrs to the midwest.
It’s crazy to me that your graduating class was only 150. I will never go to my HS reunion because there was almost 900 of us, a good chunk being juniors graduating early. I had only been in that school for a year and a half so the chances of me knowing anyone in that sea of craziness is slim to none.
